    @TheDeathStar1990 It's just the way that Martin makes their guitars. Not sure why. There are a few companies that do it. It doesn't have the double dots on the side fret markers, just on the front. I'd rather not have any at all on the front except for the teaching thing.

    @Sunambra Thanks my friend. True about the capo thing. I think you nailed it actually. I like that saying....."Learn to do it right, then you cand do it wrong......right". That's classic. I love it! lol I'll have to use that in a video, with your permission, of course.

    Scott, another great lesson. There for a while I really delved into the CAGED method and was even learning how it applies to the relationship of "chord" shapes within the same positions. It got to be very geeky and I stopped and just started to enjoy playing again. Your lessons are amazing in the way they teach without getting in the way of enjoying the music, if that makes any sense.

    @groovydjs I did get another Corvus in. I bought one of those goofy little, white Marshall micro stacks from the 80's. The ones that have 2 of the 1X10 cabinets. I don't know why. It'll look groovy in a corner though for a drink stand or something. lol I'm hoping that my new custom 7 string V will be in around Christmas. It is looking really purdy. I got a bunch of new pics of the progress a couple of days ago.

    Great job explaining this... I always wondered why I was getting a C with one shape and an A with another (or something like that). I'm only a year in self teaching and getting to the "exploration" part of learning and this takes a lot of mystery out of why sounds are happening the way they are. :)

    ( First get your guitar set up or the rest won't work right Scott how many have given up because of sore fingers and baloney I just watched Martin Taylor use a capo it's just an aid to take advantage of as long as you can do them without the capo use it. One of my saying is "Learn to do it right then you can do it wrong right" Right lol)

    @acdchiway2hell At one time, the SG was a Les Paul. Les Paul thought that the SG was so ugly that he had Gibson take his name off of them. Gibson was just slapping Les Paul's name on whatever they wanted. lol I like a Les Paul better to look at, I like an SG better to play. I like both of them just fine as long as they have coil splitting on them. I'd like them a LOT BETTER if they had bolt on necks and a poly finish instead of that nitro junk. lol

    @jeraldsrestoration I got 5 cameras in when my last one blew up on me a couple of months ago and I decided to stay up late and try to get some of them to actually do something. The digital ones that I got in take like 10 times longer to get onto my computer, convert the file type and run through Movie Maker than the old one with the tapes in it. So, I just bought another OLD one. It is so much faster, but this particular video was shot on one of those new pieces of crap. lol

  • @groovydjs
    @groovydjs  13 років тому

    @Thorvund1970 Thanks my man. That makes all the sense in the world actually. That is what I try to base pretty much everything on. Thinking about what you're playing too much will just screw up the feeling that should be put into it. So, learn enough to get you to the point that you don't ever have to think again. Then just feel it and play it. That's what made it so hard to want to teach, simply because it's kind of TELLING people what to do, but, in the end, I just tell 'em to feel it.

    @PrimeFletcherFish Sure thing my friend. It will be my pleasure. In the meantime. Power chords are simply the three notes closest to you. So, if you are playing a note on the 3rd fret of your low E string (that is a G note) your next note will be on the A string on the 5th fret (D note) and finally, one more note fretted on the 5th fret of the D string (another G note....just an octave higher than the one played on your low E string). That's all there is to a power chord. Just add distortion.

    @54macdog LOL. As you can tell, I REALLY, REALLY didn't need to be seen on this day. When the do rag is THAT smelly, you know you don't want to see my pretty self on the screen. lol So, I had to make sure that there was no wan in the world that would happen, thus the need for an interesting camera angle. lol

    You*re an underrated genius for the way you shot this--!
    How did you support the camera you used to shoot this video, and what shape was the camera you used, flat like a go-pro, long like a ski-cam, or tophat-shaped like a DSLR?
    Oh. I just heard you say that the camera was upside-down. Maybe then, it*s not on your side of the strings but placed on the room*s side of the back of the guitar-neck. I*m still looking for clues here.

  • @groovydjs
    @groovydjs  13 років тому

    @FloydRoseDiscovery I really wish I knew what made them do that. That's one of the main reasons that I don't own one. The originals were groovy, but since Jim Dunlop started making them so cheaply, they just keep breaking down. So, I had heard all the same stories and avoided them all together. So, I honestly have no clue at all as to what the problem is with them. If I did, I'd be more than happy to help you solve it.

    Scott, I'm a beginner and have problems with my pinkie finger severely curling inwards toward the middle of my palm when i wrap it over the neck (many years of working with a keyboard/mouse). It usually ends up near the neck-side of the fret and buzzes like crazy. I've been practicing learning major/minor chords by leaving my pointer finger free to barre as you explain (getting easier too). It's extremely difficult on some chords to get a clean note with the pinky due to inward curl. Any advice/exercises on how to work fingers to stretch or straighten over time? It may be too late for me at least, wondering if there is hope but may help younger players before carpel tunnel sets in. Thanks for you vids, they're really great!

    • @ryan.1357
      @ryan.1357 10 років тому +2

      Hey man, I'm not Scott, but I DO have some pretty crooked index and pinky fingers. Don't be discouraged, just practice and find a way and your fingers will eventually do the right thing, or you'll wind up coming up with your own ways to voice chords that are too uncomfortable. If you get down, listen to some Django. He basically only had two good fingers and created amazing music. It will get you up again.
      Cheers.
