I have all the greats videos man. Lee, Burton, Mason, Gatton, etc. You are hands down the best teacher I have found. You manage to teach all the great stuff without turning it into algebra.
Scott ! I am as dumb as they come when trying to learn the guitar...But it seems that I have gleamed more information from you then any one else. You do not talk down to people , you talk at them...kudos to you !
Man this is one of the best and most important lessons on youtube! Thanks Scott! Awesome!!! And here i am, 9 years later just finding this! But that's fine cuz it really took me 66 freaking years to find this out!
wow thanks scott, this lesson was so helpful for me, my understanding of bar chords was lacking, now i totally get it you are a great teacher thankyou for passing on your knowledge
@TheDeathStar1990 It's just the way that Martin makes their guitars. Not sure why. There are a few companies that do it. It doesn't have the double dots on the side fret markers, just on the front. I'd rather not have any at all on the front except for the teaching thing.
@Sunambra Thanks my friend. True about the capo thing. I think you nailed it actually. I like that saying....."Learn to do it right, then you cand do it wrong......right". That's classic. I love it! lol I'll have to use that in a video, with your permission, of course.
@Sunambra Thank you so much! I've been running that saying through my head all afternoon and it really does apply to an awful lot of situations for sure!
Scott, another great lesson. There for a while I really delved into the CAGED method and was even learning how it applies to the relationship of "chord" shapes within the same positions. It got to be very geeky and I stopped and just started to enjoy playing again. Your lessons are amazing in the way they teach without getting in the way of enjoying the music, if that makes any sense.
@baltimoredude77 Thank you my friend! You are very kind. I just try to go with that "sitting there with your buddy trading licks" attitude. I'm really glad it works for you! Scott
@jeraldsrestoration Awesome Jerald! So very good to hear my friend. I know what it's like to be uncertain about your health from day to day. I couldn't be happier!
@groovydjs I did get another Corvus in. I bought one of those goofy little, white Marshall micro stacks from the 80's. The ones that have 2 of the 1X10 cabinets. I don't know why. It'll look groovy in a corner though for a drink stand or something. lol I'm hoping that my new custom 7 string V will be in around Christmas. It is looking really purdy. I got a bunch of new pics of the progress a couple of days ago.
@jeraldsrestoration LOL, sounds jut like me my friend. Just keep riding things until the wheels fall off. I have a house full of great gear and each of my cars has well over 200,000 miles on them and one with over 300,000 miles on it. Not any paint left on any of them due to this desert sun. lol Priorities, priorities!
I knew something. I knew you had to do A shape for major barre chords but all my guitar playing buddies said I was wrong that you use a minor shape. now that I have seen this video I can proove it. I saw the thumb nail months ago but never watched it until today.
Great stuff Scott, I've tried barre Chords before but never quite got the idea. Suddenly while you were showing the 'A' chord position and the root note I had an ..AAAAHA moment. The mist cleared and I don't know why I never saw it before! Many thanks mate, from one of your Aussie buddies. Merry Christmas to you and your family.
@ravenshield56 LOL, Did the camera angle make you dizzy? I know it messed with my head trying to figure out which way to move to get back into frame. lol If I did drugs...that would've been really messed up to deal with. lol
@TheQuiZNoKid Thanks much. I don't know if anybody has done it or not. I was just up late messing with a new camera I got in and decided to try something different with a clamp that came with it. Next thing you know, I had the camera clamped to a boom microphone stand and I ended up with this. I might continue to do some like this if people like it. It was simply a 3 AM fluke. lol
Great job explaining this... I always wondered why I was getting a C with one shape and an A with another (or something like that). I'm only a year in self teaching and getting to the "exploration" part of learning and this takes a lot of mystery out of why sounds are happening the way they are. :)
Great lesson you really might be the best teacher as you claim seriously great. ( First get your guitar set up or the rest won't work right Scott how many have given up because of sore fingers and baloney I just watched Martin Taylor use a capo it's just an aid to take advantage of as long as you can do them without the capo use it. One of my saying is "Learn to do it right then you can do it wrong right" Right lol)
Thanks for sharing your vast knowledge with everyone whom is interested in guitar. Your instructions are the best I've seen and you cover all levels of abilities. Five stars always...the greatest gift of all is knowledge and the talent to demonstrate to others the most effective ways to accomplish their goals...Thanks again Scott...
@acdchiway2hell At one time, the SG was a Les Paul. Les Paul thought that the SG was so ugly that he had Gibson take his name off of them. Gibson was just slapping Les Paul's name on whatever they wanted. lol I like a Les Paul better to look at, I like an SG better to play. I like both of them just fine as long as they have coil splitting on them. I'd like them a LOT BETTER if they had bolt on necks and a poly finish instead of that nitro junk. lol
@jeraldsrestoration I got 5 cameras in when my last one blew up on me a couple of months ago and I decided to stay up late and try to get some of them to actually do something. The digital ones that I got in take like 10 times longer to get onto my computer, convert the file type and run through Movie Maker than the old one with the tapes in it. So, I just bought another OLD one. It is so much faster, but this particular video was shot on one of those new pieces of crap. lol
@Thorvund1970 Thanks my man. That makes all the sense in the world actually. That is what I try to base pretty much everything on. Thinking about what you're playing too much will just screw up the feeling that should be put into it. So, learn enough to get you to the point that you don't ever have to think again. Then just feel it and play it. That's what made it so hard to want to teach, simply because it's kind of TELLING people what to do, but, in the end, I just tell 'em to feel it.
@TEMPA01 You are quite welcome my friend. I'm glad you enjoyed it! Always let me know if there's anything I can post on here for you. I'm always looking for ideas. Scott
@PrimeFletcherFish Sure thing my friend. It will be my pleasure. In the meantime. Power chords are simply the three notes closest to you. So, if you are playing a note on the 3rd fret of your low E string (that is a G note) your next note will be on the A string on the 5th fret (D note) and finally, one more note fretted on the 5th fret of the D string (another G note....just an octave higher than the one played on your low E string). That's all there is to a power chord. Just add distortion.
@mattallica464 Yep, the short version and simplified so that folks don't have to remember it as such. Teaches them to go learn some of it for themselves. I find it better than having it all handed to them. It sticks with them longer.
@54macdog LOL. As you can tell, I REALLY, REALLY didn't need to be seen on this day. It was my 2nd day in a row without washing my lovely locks. lol Hell, I was even wearing a do rag that nobody has even seen yet since my regular one was in the wash at the time. When the do rag is THAT smelly, you know you don't want to see my pretty self on the screen. lol So, I had to make sure that there was no wan in the world that would happen, thus the need for an interesting camera angle. lol
@jeraldsrestoration There's my buddy. You are right. I was just kicking back, trying something new and I hope it helps some folks out in the meantime. A little experimenting and some education at the same time. Didn't they used to call that college? lol
You*re an underrated genius for the way you shot this--! How did you support the camera you used to shoot this video, and what shape was the camera you used, flat like a go-pro, long like a ski-cam, or tophat-shaped like a DSLR? Oh. I just heard you say that the camera was upside-down. Maybe then, it*s not on your side of the strings but placed on the room*s side of the back of the guitar-neck. I*m still looking for clues here.
You got it going on Brother Scott!! Happy to have found ya on youtube.I've played many years but you can always pick up something new.If someone ever thinks they know it all they should put their guitar up their ass!!!
Hey scott. Can you help me? I am having trouble with my effect pedal. It's a Cry Baby Wah pedal. And when I turn it on it make a weird siren noise. I have found videos on youtube. that other people are having the same problem but dont know what to do. I have took a picture of the inside of it. Incase you can look at it.
@starclassic161 COOL! I love these shoes. They are the only Vans I think I can own. lol I've just been hooked on these for decades and all of the other patterns just aren't classics like these. Now, if I could only figure out a way to plug them into an amp or something. lol
@FloydRoseDiscovery I really wish I knew what made them do that. That's one of the main reasons that I don't own one. The originals were groovy, but since Jim Dunlop started making them so cheaply, they just keep breaking down. So, I had heard all the same stories and avoided them all together. So, I honestly have no clue at all as to what the problem is with them. If I did, I'd be more than happy to help you solve it.
@THEJERALDNATION You and me, together we can open up the Groovy Grill. How much fun would that actually be!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It might be cool to open it up in Florida though. lol
Scott, I'm a beginner and have problems with my pinkie finger severely curling inwards toward the middle of my palm when i wrap it over the neck (many years of working with a keyboard/mouse). It usually ends up near the neck-side of the fret and buzzes like crazy. I've been practicing learning major/minor chords by leaving my pointer finger free to barre as you explain (getting easier too). It's extremely difficult on some chords to get a clean note with the pinky due to inward curl. Any advice/exercises on how to work fingers to stretch or straighten over time? It may be too late for me at least, wondering if there is hope but may help younger players before carpel tunnel sets in. Thanks for you vids, they're really great!
Hey man, I'm not Scott, but I DO have some pretty crooked index and pinky fingers. Don't be discouraged, just practice and find a way and your fingers will eventually do the right thing, or you'll wind up coming up with your own ways to voice chords that are too uncomfortable. @groovydjs Permission granted lol. there's more where that came from, when you think of it it's true you can do it anyway you like now and it still turns out right.
@jeraldsrestoration Yeah, I hate all these damned pills for sure. I eat more of them per day than I do food. I've been through so many different doctors, Mayo Clinics, operations etc. and not a single thing ever does any good at all. It's amazing how clueless they are and how well they get paid. lol Why would they do operation after operation when they have no clue what is wrong? Makes no sense to slice you when they have no reason to be doing it. huh?
@jeraldsrestoration Please keep me posted my man. I don't need you stroking out on my. They are no fun, trust me. I was telling my wife not a half hour ago that I don't think I can take these 24/7 headaches that are killers anymore. They've got me on so many pills and constant shots to try to control them a bit, but enough is enough already. I'm really, really tired of waking up my friend. lol
@THEJERALDNATION That would be too cool to have a rubber covered guitar. It could be sponsored by the TROJAN Latex Rubber company. lol Bounce that sucker all over the basketball court. lol Too funny.
@italiansrock101 Yes, those are the only ones. I wouldn't give twenty bucks for any other kind and I was happy to break even on the 3's. I know that they are no different than anything else out there as far as humbucker equipped axes go, I just honestly can't stand to look at them. lol And, I'm the king of some of the ugliest guitars on the planet and I think the SG is easily the ugliest guitar ever made. lol

So cool! It makes sense now!
Just learning at 67 and this really helps! Thank you Sir!
Another great lesson, even I(62) understand. Thanks a lot Scott!
Thanks Scott. Learning such a lot from you. Keep the lessons coming and keep it country.
holy shit , i had no idea , never realized what a complicated ,but yet such a simple piece of equipment it is sitting here in my lap
You are an awesome teacher.
This was a great lesson. It pulled a lot of things together I had forgotten about or never thought to put together.
Thank you Scott
I do struggle with the barre cord but I do know practice makes perfect
Thanks for all that
David from Australia 🇦🇺
Awesome lesson, thank you very much.
I really like this lesson Scott. Thank you!
Many thanks Matt!

Nice job looking forward to some more songs from your gibson traditional pro
@jeraldsrestoration Awesome Jerald! So very good to hear my friend. I know what it's like to be uncertain about your health from day to day. I couldn't be happier!
Barre chords work great on bass for solo work. I've been learning jazz chords on my Fender P Bass so they are great for low enders as well!
@groovydjs I did get another Corvus in. I bought one of those goofy little, white Marshall micro stacks from the 80's. The ones that have 2 of the 1X10 cabinets. I don't know why. tab crap - 2 of the most valuable words
Great lesson, thanks a lot
@FloydRoseDiscovery That would do it BIG TIME.
a cool maj13 barre chord is 546474, starting from Low E
Great advice, thank u

Nice shoes! I have those same shoes...
@acdchiway2hell Those are too easy to find. What one do you want? I'll go find it for you and PM you with a link.
Why do u have two dots on the 7th fret like on the 12th fret?
You*re an underrated genius for the way you shot this--!

@radavis1961 Pretty groovy huh? I'll help you figure it out though. No prob.
No fun trying to barre when you use Thomastick or Benson heavy jazz strings...13/54's.
good advice bar the chords
@jeraldsrestoration Dude, you are the best. I'm still loving my CD you sent me. I play that sucker often and really enjoy it!
@THEJERALDNATION You and me, together we can open up the Groovy Grill. How much fun would that actually be!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It might be cool to open it up in Florida though. lol
@mager4lyf18 LOL, yeah, I've grabbed a new pair every years since "Fast Times At Ridgemont High" came out. Some things are hard to let go of.
Scott, I'm a beginner and have problems with my pinkie finger severely curling inwards toward the middle of my palm when i wrap it over the neck (many years of working with a keyboard/mouse). Nano B
man... Django; how to break an aspiring stars heart LOL tell him that guy only had two fingers. Shoot me
@THEJERALDNATION Now if we could only combine the two. So, we'll make a guitar out of a big rig tire. Hey, why not?! lol
@TheAnaconda44mag Thank you. That's right, I have to blow the dust off of that guitar and make some noise on here with it.
I'd be curious to know what Martin you choose to conduct a lesson with.
My left index was chopped in a car accident but sewed back on.. The barre is the only chord that hurts
This will take some doing, unlearning the habit of playing first position chords with
the index finger but it's worth it from what you demonstrated. Hey, I noticed your guitar pick has a hole in it. Is that to stop the slippage while playing?
Martins are nice
@chetoos008 LOL, Thank you my friend. Yeah, guitars are what I do for a living and always have. I'll never need any other job until I die. So, unless you work for Guitar Center, you had better know what you're talking about if you want to be able to pull off some of the stuff I spew out. lol Yeah, I love Floyd. I'll pull some off for you and teach some too.
thanks i hope this works
that's a full chord boiii
I said a full chord, boiiiii (thanks for the lesson you are skilled at teaching no bull or over explanation just how to)
This video really kick starts theory as well
@italiansrock101 I had a couple and did the reviews on them. They are on my channel. I just sold my last one recently and won't be getting any more. I really don't like them.
Man-you dudes should see my drawer full of pills!!
I'm so sad iv just spent 2 hours looking a truss rod covers for my Gibson
I'm going to finger barre my guitar until I can play her right. Thanks! ;-)
Makes no sense to slice you when they have no reason to be doing it. huh?
@groovydjs shweeeet
I'm really, really tired of waking up my friend. lol
I have a question, I'm a beginner but isn't the first chord u played an A minor?
@THEJERALDNATION That would be too cool to have a rubber covered guitar. It could be sponsored by the TROJAN Latex Rubber company. lol Bounce that sucker all over the basketball court. lol Too funny.
@italiansrock101 Yes, those are the only ones. I wouldn't give twenty bucks for any other kind and I was happy to break even on the 3's. I know that they are no different than anything else out there as far as humbucker equipped axes go, I just honestly can't stand to look at them. lol And, I'm the king of some of the ugliest guitars on the planet and I think the SG is easily the ugliest guitar ever made. lol
Hey Scott, that's an interesting camera angle on the guitar neck, but.....we don't get to see your pretty face, and see how much longer your hair has grown! lol
Cheater !! that's right.
