As a steampunk, it makes me so happy to know Abney Park is still making the same steampunk music today in 2020! Same thing with Steam Powered Giraffe, it's awesome. Some bands moved on from steampunk music but not these ones!
This is the first I have heard of Abney Park. I must say it's a powerful song with elements of Loreena McKennitt's Cletic tribalism blended in with a Fantastic vocal presentation utilizing that platform to enthrall the listener. BRAVO!
I've been really impressed with the quality of what I've heard of Nomad so far. The songs are powerful and compelling and the artwork of the videos is superb and hypnotic. The Captain's rich vocals always hook me in and deliver the story in his wonderful style. I do have to say though that I'm really glad the violin gets a highlight in this video to reflect its lead in this song. It's utterly delicious and finely played indeed. Great work from the whole crew. *applause*
***** Nah, in all honesty, Abney Park is better. SPG is great, but their music is so sprawled out and all over the place that it's hard to truly call it "steampunk". Abney Park has that defined style that's hard to mistake.
Ah, you've just helped me find another great band for adding to my playlist. Although I do have to agree with the fact that Abney Park is more realistic to Steampunk culture. :P
Caleb Boersma You should check out The Cog Is Dead, too. They're somewhere between the abstract insanity of SPG and the harsh seriousness of Abney Park. They're a lot of fun.
Abney Park, I adore your work, but sometimes I just can't make out a word you're saying! Captain Robert's voice is so low and gravelly, it's sometimes buried under the music and I can't make out the lyrics unless I have them written out. Does anyone else have this problem? It's an awesome song, I just wish the sound mixing was a bit more clear!

For those of you who don't know, that's the traditional language spoken by the Native Americans here before the settlers. But yeah, the lyrics are in the description!

Mad Hatter The vocals levels are what is musically appropriate for the song. There is nothing wrong with the mix. Most popular music/rock vocals are a little hard to make out at first.

Love this. I really do love the hybridization of different music styles. Whatever other people say about the lyrics being difficult to make out, I don't think so personally. You just have to adapt your ears. Listening to music isn't the same as listening to someone talk. Other kinds of music are good for easily listening, this is good for meaningful listening. All of your work is. I love it.
Josh our guitar player was pointing you that people might be having trouble understanding the lyrics because I use worlds people don't know. "Cattle" for example. The lyrics have always been in the video notes.

But when you get really into it, and you're singing fast, (like in The Derelict, or certain parts of Airship Pirates) I can see how it'd be hard to pick up the lyrics just from listening :P But that's okay, because that's part of the fun of your music! And tonight i just remembered that there was a brilliant steampunk band but I had no idea what it was so after about 30 mins I found you guys and I am so glad. And it's the only song I can think of that has a mandolin solo and a violin solo in the same song. I came across your band listening to music nostalgically and looked up chitty-chitty-bang-bang.
