- Until this week, I thought "bunting" was the regalia you hung up on the King's birthday - now I know better, and I have, perhaps, a little insight into the American tradition during the first half of the twentieth century through three very different baseball novels.
Continuing the "Summer of Sport" with a pastime I know very little about, but enjoying the learning experience.

Quite enjoying your reviews of baseball novels. Thanks.
You’re welcome. It all goes science fiction for the next month, but Summer Of Sport continues to end of September, so I may return to it!
You're an awfully good sport to read all of these baseball novels, Gavin! I used to follow baseball quite closely but not so much anymore. I've read The Natural, but that's it from this batch. Terrific job reviewing these novels.
Thanks Pat, I’m going to see if there are any ways to watch Baseball for free in the UK! I’ll need a team to support - who would you recommend?
I would have thought that baseball and cricket might have evolved from a similar source You've got someone pitching a ball, another person with a bat trying to hit it, and running back and forth.
No?
The same family of sports, but I think have always been separate. Jane Austen certainly thinks they are different and I’m not arguing with her. In UK, kids used to play a game called Rounders, which is very similar to baseball.
