She was very likely raised by a human and then dumped at a pond. Birds, raised by humans, do not flourish in the wild.

She is a Chinese goose so fully domesticated and abandoned, luckly they found each other

@@luceatlux7087 They lack of the muscles to control it so they cannot be trained like cats or dogs to use a litter box.

As a Canadian that's only had experience with our native geese.... This goose seems like a unicorn, it's incredibly precious, and I doubt I'll ever see one in my life 😂
Edit: ok I get it's domesticated, I just refuse to believe a goose can be domesticated bc ours commit crime

As a Canadian who has seen thousands of them, they mostly just attack you or hiss if you get too close, this is not normal
Domestic geese can be very sweet if they imprint on humans when they're young. And some are like my cousins' pet goose, who broke my uncle's arm. (Geese are good judges of character. My uncle was not that good of a man.)
That's because this goose is a domesticated breed.
LOL another Canuck here, can confirm ... Canada geese are NOT typically friendly. I've heard it said that's where all our natural hostility went, so all that's left is kindness (heh). I've also met a domestic goose up here who just LOVED to hiss and puff and be as intimidating as he could. Silly fellow. This is such a sweet goose!
Odds are she was a human imprint gosling that was abandoned by her humans at some point. I lost my 23 yr. old white chinese gander "Marwyn", a year ago Nov. He was a rescue from a local wildlife group that didn't handle domestics and as a volunteer with other geese I adopted him as an estimated, week old gosling. He was my constant companion for all those years, always preferring my company over my other geese. Geese are incredibly smart, easily learn their names, simple commands and phrases They also have amazing long term memories and when raised from goslings bond with you as much or more than a dog or any other animal.
I’ve met a lot of geese this friendly at the golf course and lake. They let me pick them up and pet their necks. Unlike the ducks who just waddle away. Feral geese are friendly because of wanting food handouts.

Am sorry for your loss. I didn't know until this video that geese could do this, they often have a bad rep, I guess that's geese that are wild, not human raised. You were blessed to have such a wonderful companion.
This goose was someone's pet that was abandoned or lost. She was lucky to find this family to love her.
You can tell the little girl learned to speak lovingly so her parents must have taught her that by example. How nice.
I pray that these two sweethearts are the best of friends for many years to come I'm not sure how long the goose will live for but I do hope it's a long time and these two precious souls stays friends till the goose gets very old and dies of old age bless both thier hearts 💕

That goose is probably more fiercely protective of that child than a dog would be. Really sweet relationship they have.
I've seen videos of dogs fighting with absolute ferocity to protect their humans.

But here's what I know: ALL types of animals that domesticate well can be found to be loyal protectors of their human family. I've seen dogs, cats, rats, donkeys, pigs, cows, crows- you name it! And now a goose, of course :)
I wonder if Gambo lost her family and went looking for another one? She will have created wonderful memories for this little girl and her family, brought a lot of happiness. A wonderful story.

Most likely, this is a young brown chinese goose, a domestic breed. She most likely was bought as a gosling at a feed store and abandoned at the local pond. Unfortunatly this is a common practice because many don’t realize that domestic geese are poor flyers if they can fly at all, and they also have higher nutritional needs than wild geese, as a result most geese abandoned at ponds starve. Gumbo was lucky to have found a family willing to take her in.
