- In this video, Ilene Woods (the voice actress for Cinderella) discusses her admiration for Walt Disney during the time she worked with him on the film. She happily details the story behind "Sing Sweet Nightingale" and other visionary ideas that Walt brought to life.
What's really sad is that when Woods was suffering from Alzheimers, she forgot she was Cinderella, and the nurses would always play "A Dream Is a Wish your Heart Makes" to keep her calm.
Yeah that's sad. At least you liked her own song. She forgot that she'd voiced Cinderella. She will forever be Cinderella no matter what

I had read that the last bit of her life when she would get really depressed which can come with Alzheimer's or she was having a bad day, they would play her recording of A Dream is A Wish Your Heart Makes and it would always cheer her up.
Ariel has a very beautiful singing voice but Cinderella's voice is infinitely more lovely and heavenly. Cinderella has the most lovely and heavenly voice out of all the disney princesses, when I hear her voice especially when she sings, I feel like I am lying on a cloud in heaven listening to an angel sing.

I also thought 'Sing Sweet Nightingale' was a genius way to layer her voice. Very few artists does this. Mariah Carey is one. But Walt Disney definitely came up with the idea. And Ilene sang it brilliantly.

What a kind, well-spoken woman. Despite Disney's controversies, I'm happy she had a wonderful time in her role. IT does seem like such a warm environment from how she described it, and in Disney's early days, I have no doubt it was. Rest easy, angel.

It's such a shame that the Disney Company lost a legend like Ilene Woods who was the original voice actress behind Cinderella from Cinderella (1950 Version of a Disney animated movie which is a retelling of Charles Perrault's fairytale of the same name which was my mom's favorite). R.I.P. Ilene Woods, we'll miss you and your great voice acting forever. 😭
I was 16 when she died. I don’t remember how I handled my grief.
Whats really sad is that before she died of Alzheimer's, she didn't remember that she voiced Cinderella, but loved the "Dream is a wish" song.
She was an inspiration. What a beautiful human being. The real Cinderella! How much joy, light, faith, and magic has she brought to the world through her performance.

I'm a guy and I don't remember it, so my parents told me years later. I was obsessed with Cinderella growing up and begged my parents to take me to Cinderella breakfast in the morning as Disney World. I was clearly very happy in those pictures. It is really upsetting what Nature does to us, all those memories and bonds you form, they just disappear and are gone forever.

Listening and singing A Dream is A Wish Your Heart Makes sparked that inspiration for me to not stop following my dreams today. I learned today I was not hired for the job position I need to kick start my dream career, and I prepared really well so I felt really disappointed with myself, lately rethinking if I have what it takes to follow my dreams. But hearing upon this song really touched my heart and helped me feel inspired to follow that dream after I stop grieving about it, I first have to believe in myself more than anybody else.

Greetings from South Africa. As a blind person, now 26 years old, I think we need more people like Ilene and Walt because I love the attitude of "we can do it" instead of "how can we do it" or "can we do it". There have been quite a few challenges in my life, mostly with education, but I have always managed to make it through somehow. When I go to my weekly Ballroom dancing sessions I feel so alive and energetic and because of that I can understand where Ilene is coming from when she says that Cinderella's goal was to have a good time at the ball. RIP Ilene. It's wonderful to know you as Cinderella. You'll be greatly missed but never forgotten.

We know she’s the one and only Cinderella but we also know she’d be happy to pass her roles down to the younger beautiful Cinderella’s. So everyone who’s saying “there’s only one Cinderella good enough” and “no one could ever be Cinderella like Ilene” stop it! Because she’d be happy!

Another example of a beautiful voice for a disney princess was Adriana Caselotti for Snow White. Believe it or not, despite living a low-key, quiet life after voicing the iconic character at age 18, she still retained the vocal abilities to do Snow White's voice up until her death in 1997 at the age of 80.

Did you know that Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty's graceful moves were modeled after Helene Stanley? Cinderella even has the same smile as Helene. When you watch Cinderella dance in her bedroom while singing A Dream Is A Wish Your Heart Makes, those moves are exactly Helene's. I'll PM you the links.

I swear, if I see another Pixar movie made again I am going to scream!!!!!!!!!! Pixar is downright played out and overdone, we need to make true Disney classics again like Little Mermaid, Sleeping Beauty, Snow White, Beauty and the Beast, and of course my beautiful and lovely Cinderella again!!!!!!!

The Little Mermaid technically isn't a classic, it came out in 1989 and Walt died in 1966. He helped with the Jungle Book which came out in 1967 and he approved Aristocats ( released in 1970) and was also working on that but sadly passed before they finished that project.

Back then Disney movies were truly beautiful and lovely and full if wonder and magic unlike the crap that they make today. Tangled, Pocahontas, and Princess and the Frog are a dishonor to the classic Disney princesses.
