    Another great review Rob. I have a trek rail 5 that I bought about a year ago and am looking to buy another e-mtb so my lad and I or missus can go riding with me more. Have been looking at that e1 version of this - looks pretty nice for the money and I have a 2018 rift zone 3 in the bike stable which I've enjoyed immensly over the last 5 years - now a bit dated geometry wise but still really capable to be fair. Also looking at the Giant Trance e2 pro with the fox 36's and float set up on it but just cant seem to decide. Theres some great deals on both these bikes at the moment for around the 3k mark. Which would you choose? the Marin or the Giant?

    Mostly just wish they offered a 720wh battery and even a 900wh option to all the new marin bikes. Not sure if the new ep6 and ep801 are more efficient than the ep8 for power consumption cuz they have been at the back of the pack for range tests compared to rocky mountains dyna motor, giants sync drive, and Bosch's cx motors. Need a more efficient motor or a bigger battery to compensate for it 🤷‍♂️

      You can see in the Shimano E-Tube Project App (the motor will be either the old DU-EP800 or DU-EP801), the motor also looks physically different on the left side, the Shimano logo is smaller and sits higher up on the motor on the EP801.

    • @johnthompson8148
      @johnthompson8148 Рік тому +1

      Yes they are. eBikes are not motorbikes. They don't sell in the same volumes, they don't use the same tech, they're not the same thing. As Keith Bontrager said, "Strong, light, cheap; pick two." Your $5,000 motorbike weighs more than 100Kg. How much does a MotoGP bike cost??? That's where you're getting closer to the same level of tech as modern trail and enduro bikes.

    So many good bikes ruined by Shimano motors. Weakest motor with the worst range and anti-consumer to boot. Would not recommend Shimano motors to anyone. Bosch, Bafang, Yamaha, Pinion, Brose. Anything is better. I know other have had and still have issues but Shimano is by far the worst.

    It went together easily in less than an hour. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L Make sure the front fork is forward or the pedals will hit the front tire. Tires are both a little soft so it needs air before I ride it. The rear wheel didn't come with a clamp regular bolts hold it on. The front had the clamp. No scratches out of box. Rims are a little off with a slight wobble. They could have spent more time with the spoke tool fixing the run out. So far out of the box I'm happy with it. I did replace the pedals with a nice aftermarket set. After riding it a bit my A$$ is a bit sore so I ordered another seat. Overall I'm nearly 60 and didn't ride a bike in 30 years. I like my new 29" Schwinn. It will be used for casual rides with my friend.
