- Now I'm almost fully recovered from my collar bone surgery, I am planning some fun MTB rides and my return to sport and dirt jump riding. So the E Bike is definitely going to be my best bet for getting back on a mountain bike and getting fit for big jumps. I went and visited Shimano UK for some massive upgrades on my E Bike which include the new Shimano Link Guide drivetrain, which looks and seems perfect for my Marin E Bike. That's a very good demonstration of how Linkglide was considering it for San Quentin 2, but decided not to do so. Hopefully those weeks of recovering is enough from the Collar Bone injury to allow you ride, always beware of those who impersonate you Matt Jones such winning a prize, although no one recalls entering one on youtube, and this may be the best video I have seen.

Lost count how many drivetrains I've consumed with my ebike riding all year round. This is seems super interesting. Shame it isn't microspline so most existing ebike owners will need new hubs I guess?
Must be a way to fit a hyperglide free hub body to microspline hub.
Sad that Shimano just didn't want to design a new 11 speed cassette. They just used the old HG 11 speed blueprint on a stronger material.
In that case, the follow up question would be do they have an ebike rated HG freehub as well? Because their Microspline tech is supposed to be the solution to the cassette grinding the HG splines away.
Bike ASMR
On the whole not maxing out the settings, that's what the ride modes are for. Eco, Trail, Boost / Turbo (depending on your brand). No idea why the party mode doesn't come as standard with everything turned up to 11!
I don't see the whole tweeking feature as anything new. Been able to do that on specialized for years. Link glide has also taken an absolute age to come out after all the delays for one reason or another. The XTR brakes look awesome, in the nice grey colour. Overall the bike looks sick.
Really looking forward to seeing you spending some time on an Ebike , riders like yourself give the whole eeeb scene a lot of credibility. I'm particularly looking forward to seeing how you will discover by altering the parameters on the app whilst out on a ride will instantly give a different result, especially on technical climbs which can be just as good fun as a technical downhill section.
The new Shimano Link Guide looks an essential purchase. I found myself nodding in agreement when you explained going from 12 to 11 speed. I personally believe it could even go down another.
Play ground laps on the eeeb ? Or even a purpose made Ebike circuit built there ?

Yeah, horrendous audio for the chat pre-build but then great audio for the sounds of the build with thankfully no music underneath (though unfortunately a bit of chatter in the background on some shots).

I'm all good with 'app' functionality on something that already requires batteries. I'm not a big fan of adding batteries to a non-ebikes though (i.e shifting), its just another thing that I'll forget to charge and when the battery dies, short of getting a load of tools out, you're stuck in whatever gear you were last in! (I'm not against having one gear but I don't want to spend £1G on extra dead weight)

I was thinking thinking this would be a thumbs down because I expected the pricing to be at a premium but, after doing a quick search around the prices are decent. Have to say thanks for that Shimano, my only beef now is that the shops have enough stock available. The range of MTB parts seem to be limited all round.

Going to get them on my brake before it was stolen last year plus only bought it because of I’ll health after have some gastric band and losing loads of weight in a short time I got it to build muscle back up but that was screwed after it went missing and can’t afford the £7k to replace it gutted now my health is getting worse again

Wish I hadn’t moved to Microspline waste of time, when they’re releasing everything for HG hubs.

We own a pair of Marin Rift Zones (love them)...and would have loved to buy some Marin Alpine Trail E2s....but where are they? We ended up going with a pair of Orbea Rise.

Linkglide is probably the best "downgrade" I've done to my ebike. Sure the 12 speed hyperglide setup had more range and was lighter but I dont have to worry about the linkglide.

Is the marin rift zone 1 any good
YES. I've had mine for about a year and a half. Only issue was linkage bolts came loose at a bike park with big braking bumps. Great all around bike. I mostly use mine for fast flow and jumps.

Pretty cool- but I’ve wondered why at 240lbs I can ride a “normal” drivetrain, which is designed around a 160lb kind of sized rider. but the instant I add 15lbs to the bike by going “e”, I need a whole new drivetrain!

Respectfully disagree: think about it this way. If I’m riding my analogue bike and I stand on the pedal with 240lbs and someone else stands on it with 160lbs, basic physics is I’m putting 80lbs more weight or 50% more torque on the drivetrain. Same applies with climbing, I’m having to put in about 50% more power to go the same speed
I wish I had an e bike
