Snatcher is perhaps my favorite game of all time. The music, the characters, the settings, and the atmosphere and just amazing. It makes you want to explore and live in the world it creates. Damn shame we'll never get a sequel to continue where it left off.
Old comment, I know, but I just had to reply when I read this. I just finished the game on Sega CD earlier today for the first time ever as my very first experience with the game and I have to say I agree with you 100 %. This game is absolutely incredible. I never thought I would ever come across a game I'd love even more than the Metal Gear games but I think I just found it. This may very well be my all-time favorite game as well! You have very good taste, my friend! I hope you find your way back here after all this time to read my reply! ;)
@@Gorilla_Jones He cant, the game is still owned by konami, all his franchises are. Metal Gear, Policenauts, and Snatcher. But you can hope that konami is moneygrubbing enough to just remake it anyways. The only hope Kojima has is to become a billionare and try to buy the franchises off of konami. Only though a miracle would they reconcile with him and give him rights to make new games for the franchises he created they wont though because money.
finally played this game for the first time in my life. somehow i never knew this existed. probably because I didn't know anyone with a sega cd, growing up
3:00 There is also a Xenomorph in the Outer Heaven bar in the Japanese version, but was taken out in international versions because of copyright issues.
I'm a new viewer and I really love your content. I'm having a shitty day and I'm just binge watching and liking all your videos and it made my day a little less shittier. Thank you
I recently started playing this on my Sega CD. Can't count the number of times I've thrown my head back in laughter due to the countless Kojima-isms in this game.
Seriously, he should make more games like Snatcher and Policenauts. Hell he should do a stealth ninja game since he's done Metal Gear for a very longtime.
I really enjoyed your enthusiasm throughout this video. As odd as it might sound, I really enjoy your more cynical outlook on some games featured on the channel, but it's really nice to hear how much you enjoyed this one. Awesome video dude!
Snatcher and Policenauts are two games which really made me wish Kojima didn't get bogged down with MGS for all those years, as those two titles are proof that he had so much more to offer.
I was lucky enough to play this as a kid when it came out and I had the light gun accessory so having a gun by your side for when a snatcher would pop out and switching from the joypad to your pistol added additonal tension and immersion. It introduced me to the term cyberpunk, then a few years later we got the amazing Bladerunner game by westwood studios.
Policenauts is fantastic but i'm not sure if it's cyberpunk. It has some bleak dystopic moments but the atmosphere was never quite like Blade Runner or Snatcher.
The later PSX port was more advanced than the NEC PC-Engine Super CD-ROM version, but it was a lot more toned down. The later Saturn release was closer to the western Mega CD release, but still toned down compared to the first finished CD outing. Also the MSX computers were in Europe, just not popular on the islands. Netherlands, Italy, Spain, Finland and France did have them in quantity. Snatcher on MSX2 came as 3 3.5'' floppy drives and a cartridge with the music and special audio chip, still missing part 3.
Have you played Read Only Memories? I'm getting a ROM vibe from all this Snatcher footage. That said it's probably the other way around. If you play ROM you'll probably get a Snatcher vibe from it. Especially the shooting sections. I highly recommend it!
GamingBrit have you played the Policenauts translation? Just as good if not better than Snatcher. Just like Snatcher it captures the vibe of its world perfectly. Well worth playing and reviewing.
I've always wanted to try Snatcher, but at the same time I'm tempted to wait just in case there's some kind of remake. I mean, I'd rather take a reboot of Snatcher over a reboot of Prince of Persia, Tomb Raider and Sonic the Hedgehog.
I just saw this gem at local pawn etro game shop (odd combo but I do live in Anchorage Alaska) I really really really want it but price is extremely prohibitive but the state of Alaska does pay everyone a $1000 at the end of year so I might be a proud Snatcher owner during the middle of October.
8:29 "GREAT MEALS" -----> EAT ME (subliminal message) Kojima was playing with ideas like subliminal messages, false flags, centralised information and power and other Orwellian (and dare I say: contemporary) themes even back when he made Snatcher.
I loved Snatcher. Slick, hilarious, and awesome, but I didn't like the third chapter. It dragged and the revelations didn't really motivate me to care. I wanted to go back to the city ASAP. I also thought the "shower perv" scene was REALLY forced and frankly her fault. Though she never got called on it, so I was a bit irked in addition to not finding it funny. Blade Runner actually got an amazing adventure game on PC. The thing with it is that it didn't just follow the movie. It was an expansion that was different every time you played it. That's right, you heard me. It was roguelike with different stories that could play out.
Your best bet is Ebay or Amazon. Currently, it's completely out of print and the original devs lost the code when they moved cities. Also a sequel would be unlikely for the same reason as a rerelease due to the cost being upwards of 10s of millions for redoing everything or working off a copy of the game. Which is a goddamn shame, since it sold really well for an adventure game in the late 90s AND it was very well received.
Nice video. I wonder if you could give me the ROM/ISO for this game as I'd like to try it out for myself before I buy it because it's rather expensive :)
to coincide a little with ffvii there was a massive multi disk blade runner game. it wouldn't be fair to put it head to head with this cause it's so much newer but you should review that game.
Played it on an emulator. I prefer Policenauts more but Snatcher is still a great sci-fi interactive adventure. I was hoping Kojima will return to sci-fi cyberpunk detective stories but his new IP that seems like a new mech game has peeked my interest. I did like Snatcher but I get a feeling that people give it too much credit for granted. The problem I have with this game is how easily the game resembles to Blade Runner, but if Blade Runner cyber-punk anime is your thing than go for it. You could say it's a homage or a brief respectful reference but people would get an impression that the game was plagiarized and that's probably the main reason why Konami never released the game on a digital market probably to avoid any copyright regulations. Same thing is probably with Policenauts because of how similar is to Lethal Weapon and 2001 Space Odyssey. And the other problem is that regardless that the game was originally released without the third act it feels that the third act was kind of forced and unpolished which is probably the weakest part of the game. I get it, it's supposed to conclude the story, and don't get me wrong, I was satisfied with the ending but it doesn't stand out to me as it did with the first two acts. The third act is basically shooting through a countless number of robot spiders and it get's repetitive way too quickly until you are rewarded with a half an hour cutscene filled with information dumps. And another problem I find is with a sudden plot twist regarding Gillian's son. I don't want to spoil it further but that plot twist while welcoming doesn't give me much of a pay off and it could have been easily scrapped from the story in my opinion. It just sounds like a sudden coincidence to me. Sure it might be that they were expanding a character arch but there's not a massive pay off for it, it's just me though. It's a pretty good interactive cyber-punk adventure but little too over-praised in my opinion. Would I call it the best Mega-CD game? I don't know, it would be a stretch since there's not much of gameplay to go through. I think that people are holding the game a high regard without acknowledging that there's another Blade Runner-esque game made for the same system and it's a pretty cool one called Rise of the Dragon. I think that Snatcher is more of a linear interactive adventure and Rise of the Dragon has multiple choices that can affect the story and there's more gameplay variety, though some of the choices are basically trials and errors but Snatcher stands out in a visual presentation department more and is probably more memorable but Rise of the Dragon is still an underrated gem and if Blade Runner-esque point'n'click type of game is your thing than this game is right up your valley.
Anyone who likes Snatcher should definitely check out Policenauts. You'll have to emulate it though if you want text in English. Insane that it never got a proper release outside Japan.
Oh well, MGS doesn't have decapitations, but you can easly decapitate solders in Metal Gear Rising. Also, right now, it's not a very good idea putting a decapitation in a videogame if you're a Japanese developer, MGS games are already a bit censored in Japan, and cutting heads there isn't something that they want to see in games for some reason, this is a big deal since PS1 (and also heavy flashes in game graphics and people with 4 fingers seems to be a problem, this was a big deal during the PS1/PS2 years).
It's really weird how they got away with a T rating with this back then. Gory decapitation and rotting bodies as well as poking out nipples were ok for teens apparently
That's cool, but how the hell did you play it? The Mega CD by itself is rare but Snatcher discs go for sooo much money. Where did you get your copy? By the way, I've heard Sonic CD is also good for hardcore 2D Sonic fans. It has some absurdly complex but utlimately sensible level layouts, and lots of fast running.
+graph180 Who knows, maybe we'll see another detective sort of game from Kojima. Maybe the thing he's working on Sony with is a full 3D evolution of those games. Even if it's not, it could be down the pipeline.
That's one funky ass soundtrack. The music alone makes me want for a second night in Neo Kobe city.
+Turbo Button Somehow I forgot how amazing the soundtrack was. I ought to listen to it more often.
A new 80ish Cyberpunk Adventure game by Kojima would be god tier.
Maybe Death Stranding might have a little bit of that.
Musica erudit
just a Remake of Snatcher from Kojima would be all I need.
Snatcher is perhaps my favorite game of all time. The music, the characters, the settings, and the atmosphere and just amazing. It makes you want to explore and live in the world it creates. Damn shame we'll never get a sequel to continue where it left off.

Bought at launch, still holding hope that Kojima will grace us with a new one.

I'm surprised he didn't mention the voice acting. For the time it's pretty well acted from what I remember. The casting was good too.
Kojima's games always had very good voice acting for their respective eras.
3:00 There is also a Xenomorph in the Outer Heaven bar in the Japanese version, but was taken out in international versions because of copyright issues.
Penguin Adventure
Metal Gear
Snatcher
Let's hope his new title is Penguin Adventure 2.
+ew275x Policenauts 2?
***** Nah, Kojima's at his best when he's trolling, I would love Charlie's reaction if they really made Penguin adventure 2.
I'm waiting on an updated port for Penguin Adventure DX The Directors Cut.
Penguin Adventure 2 Battle
Penguin snatcher 2
Bought this on day one back in the day. This was one of the few occasions where the Mega CD was used properly.
Same.
Anyone know the music that plays at 0:08? It's catchy as hell.
13:12 For some reason I really want Suda51 and Kojima to work together on a game now...
Snatcher's voice acting is really good for a videogame dub from the early 90s
Does anyone know the name of the music that starts playing @ 13:19?
Seriously, he should make more games like Snatcher and Policenauts.
Hell he should do a stealth ninja game since he's done Metal Gear for a very longtime.
so uhhh, does anyone know the song that starts at 0:09 I'm assuming it's from snatcher but I can't seem to find it
Thank you for not spoiling!
I guess it’s time to complete my ‘plan to watch’ list.
Finally, you Legend you
+Muslamic Ray Gun I've read this in the voice of Joe Pesci.
Heyy does anyone know the song that plays the first minute or two of the video?
I really enjoyed your enthusiasm throughout this video. As odd as it might sound, I really enjoy your more cynical outlook on some games featured on the channel, but it's really nice to hear how much you enjoyed this one. Awesome video dude!
Snatcher and Policenauts are two games which really made me wish Kojima didn't get bogged down with MGS for all those years, as those two titles are proof that he had so much more to offer.
What are the name of the songs playing in the background?
9:38 "...point the figure..." Uh oh the truck have started to move!
The best x-mas present
I just started watching your videos today and I must say I am impressed. Great voice and great eye for content. You gained a subscriber today mate.
So, a lot like Pheonix Wright? If so, that definitely is up my alley. Also, glad to have you back man.
I absolutely love Snatcher. Glad to see you did a video on it.
Holy shit, it *is* Christmas! :O
Merry Christmas man, here's to another year of TGBS
I could or should do a Remake of the intro.
rickonami yeah you should
Agreed
13:05 The Radio Drama had a fantastic soundtrack. Check it out if you can.
great meals is an anagram of metal gears.
wowzers.
+Nacho Romero !
You need to do a Policenatus review now !
What's that bitchin' theme 10 seconds in?
When I saw the title my jaw dropped all the way to the floor.
It literally... EXTENDED to the floor.
This game along with Westwood's Blade Runner are some of the best cyberpunk games.
be sure to check out policenauts as well!
Policenauts is fantastic but i'm not sure if it's cyberpunk. It has some bleak dystopic moments but the atmosphere was never quite like Blade Runner or Snatcher.

I've been following your channel for years. I dig your style, man.

For me, this is my christmas present, a video of brit
Fantastic video as usual, but I have to ask, what is the music at 0:08 from?
+ShinTurrican That's what I want to know. It's credited by Mike Talley by I can't find it anywhere.
Second that. It's catchy as hell.
It's Naoto Shibata Project, titled Difficult Move.
What's the music TGBS uses for his outro? I swear I've heard it somewhere before and it's driving me crazy.
Have you played Read Only Memories?
I'm getting a ROM vibe from all this Snatcher footage. That said it's probably the other way around. If you play ROM you'll probably get a Snatcher vibe from it. Especially the shooting sections. I highly recommend it!
"never ending stealth series"
that aged well
9:38 There's s typo. Instead of "point the finger" it says "point the figure."
I need this! Thanks for the review
Love ya, bra. I need more of GamingBrit in my life.
I can't wait for Kojima's new game. Mineral Appendage! Staring Stone Serpent! ORIGINAL CHARACTER DO NOT STEAL!
A video on Policenauts next?
Didn't the Raiden sidemission in ground zeroes have us hunting down snatchers? Even Hideo didn't forget his earlier IP's
GamingBrit have you played the Policenauts translation?
Just as good if not better than Snatcher. Just like Snatcher it captures the vibe of its world perfectly.
Well worth playing and reviewing.
Try out Policenauts too, another game with similar "gameplay" to Snatcher from Kojima, there is a fan translation out for it.
you caught my interest reviewing such a underated game and unknown masterpiece
Sad. This game sounds like it would’ve done amazingly today with modern game technology 😢
I've always wanted to try Snatcher, but at the same time I'm tempted to wait just in case there's some kind of remake.

shows picture of Rudger Haur over Freddy but not Radam?
I played snatcher when originally released. Great game.
Now do a review of Dead of the Brain 1 & 2.
I wish I had this back when I had a Mega-CD.
Another thing about the sound with kojima games, especially for mgs is that the voice acting didn't suck
8:29 "GREAT MEALS" -----> EAT ME (subliminal message)
Kojima was playing with ideas like subliminal messages, false flags, centralised information and power and other Orwellian (and dare I say: contemporary) themes even back when he made Snatcher.
The “Eat Me” sign isn’t strictly for decoration either. It serves as a hint to an in game puzzle during the second act.
THE PENGUIN IS A SNATCHER!
Happy Christmas indeed
how can i get it ?
I loved Snatcher. Slick, hilarious, and awesome, but I didn't like the third chapter. It dragged and the revelations didn't really motivate me to care. I wanted to go back to the city ASAP. I just hope Kojima's next game isn't a walking simulator
glad to see you are alive man, any chances of a new LP with Bit in the future?
Pretty awesome Christmas Present. :)
I just now realize that the young snake MGs4 skin looks like the snatcher dude.....wow
So this is basically like the Armitage 3. Pretty cool to see kojimas early work now I see why ZOE 2 was awesome
I still hope they will re-release this someday. Maybe make a second game as well since the ending sets one up.
I grew up with Snatcher. I'd kill to get a copy of it again ): Did anyone else find the game kind of creepy?
Nice video.
I wonder if you could give me the ROM/ISO for this game as I'd like to try it out for myself before I buy it because it's rather expensive :)
Okay, seriously, 0:10
WHAT IS THIS TUNE, GUYS? PLEASE!
awesome vid! I am definitely checking this game out

CliffFitter89 Too long To Read
how can I play this game on PC?
Emulation.
Hopefully he'll review Death Stranding.
Anyone who likes Snatcher should definitely check out Policenauts. You'll have to emulate it though if you want text in English. Insane that it never got a proper release outside Japan.
OHG Fawx you don't have to emulate. You can play it on an actual saturn in english with light gun support.
I'm praying Kojima makes a horror franchise next
Played the MSX and SCD versions, fucking masterpiece. Definitely play Policenauts too if you haven't already.
In the US, Snatcher was actually rated teen, not mature. I don't know what it was rated in Europe though.
I want to see a scanner darkly or the man in the high castle of this
Or total recall miniorty report paycheck scremerrcs next imposter of this
This game looks awesome. I guess the only way to play it now would be to use an emulator.
Oh well, MGS doesn't have decapitations, but you can easly decapitate solders in Metal Gear Rising.

It's really weird how they got away with a T rating with this back then. Gory decapitation and rotting bodies as well as poking out nipples were ok for teens apparently
And guess what Kojima announced at E3.......😄
Death Stranding
You say wrong place wrong time? Eh, adventure games were all the rage on PC in the late 80ies to early 90ies. It was merely misplaced on a TV console.
And Blade runner is film noir in a cyber punk context.
Please review Policenauts, Mr Brits.
YOU'RE NOT DEAD
How did you get to play it again? Why make a spoiler-free video just to tell me I'm never going to experience it?!
I never enjoyed adventure games much but I did like games with adventure game elements.
Policenauts is waaaaay better if you've played it I'd love to see a review
That's cool, but how the hell did you play it? The Mega CD by itself is rare but Snatcher discs go for sooo much money. Where did you get your copy?
By the way, I've heard Sonic CD is also good for hardcore 2D Sonic fans. It has some absurdly complex but utlimately sensible level layouts, and lots of fast running.
The fact that we may never see another game in the style of "Snatcher" or "Policenauts" from Kojima does fill me with the sads....
Why can't we? He's free from konami now to make whatever he wants
+graph180 Who knows, maybe we'll see another detective sort of game from Kojima. Maybe the thing he's working on Sony with is a full 3D evolution of those games. Even if it's not, it could be down the pipeline.
Man, later on you talk about death stranding getting things wrong so much, going back here and watching this feels kinda weird.
