Ableton has changed a bit since this video was made. I found the config file in my user folder: /Users/yourusername/Library/Preferences/Ableton/Live 11.X.X/User Remote Scripts I think the Library might be a hidden folder by default so you might need to show it via the Finder view options in your user folder. The config text file contents is a little different too, but the principle is still the same. I just pasted the Input/Output names directly under GlobalChannel. One important thing to note is swapping to MIDI mode on the Kontrol by pressing Shift+Plug-in(MIDI), which I missed first time I watched. You need to do this to activate the knobs for an instrument/macro.
Just set this up with a KK M32 - seems to work without adding the InputName and OutName lines in the txt file at all (still have to select the Control Surface based on the folder name and the Input/Output dropdowns in Ableton as per this vid).

THANK YOU for this! I was pulling my hair out trying to figure out why the knobs wouldn't map to Ableton. In response to someone else's observation below, there are actually 32 MIDI maps (4 pages of 8 knobs each) on the M32 controller. You hit shift+midi and then hit the M or S button to select the page you want. I went further with your file edit like this. I tested this with 10 tracks. 1-8 controlled the volumes of the first 8 tracks, but what about 9 and 10? Both are controlled by the encoder 9 and 10 which are on the second page of the midi mappings on the M32, knobs 1 and 2, so it seems to work. It's a little hodge podge that you have to pick the page every time you want to switch what you are controlling, but then again, it's a $130 keyboard not a $1300 keyboard. Here's how I edited the file to include all 32 knobs: Encoder1: 14 Encoder2: 15 Encoder3: 16 Encoder4: 17 Encoder5: 18 Encoder6: 19 Encoder7: 20 Encoder8: 21 Encoder9: 22 Encoder10: 23 Encoder11: 24 Encoder12: 25 Encoder13: 26 Encoder14: 27 Encoder15: 28 Encoder16: 29 Encoder17: 102 Encoder18: 103 Encoder19: 104 Encoder20: 105 Encoder21: 106 Encoder22: 107 Encoder23: 108 Encoder24: 109 Encoder25: 110 Encoder26: 111 Encoder27: 112 Encoder28: 113 Encoder29: 114 Encoder30: 115 Encoder31: 116 Encoder32: 117 EncoderChannel1: -1 EncoderChannel2: -1 EncoderChannel3: -1 EncoderChannel4: -1 EncoderChannel5: -1 EncoderChannel6: -1 EncoderChannel7: -1 EncoderChannel8: -1 EncoderChannel9: -1 EncoderChannel10: -1 EncoderChannel11: -1 EncoderChannel12: -1 EncoderChannel13: -1 EncoderChannel14: -1 EncoderChannel15: -1 EncoderChannel16: -1 EncoderChannel17: -1 EncoderChannel18: -1 EncoderChannel19: -1 EncoderChannel20: -1 EncoderChannel21: -1 EncoderChannel22: -1 EncoderChannel23: -1 EncoderChannel24: -1 EncoderChannel25: -1 EncoderChannel26: -1 EncoderChannel27: -1 EncoderChannel28: -1 EncoderChannel29: -1 EncoderChannel30: -1 EncoderChannel31: -1 EncoderChannel32: -1

Thanks alot for this great tips. I just found out in the latest Live 11, you dont have to write the controller name but just the cc numbers, and you can write all 16 of the macro,s ( cc 14- 29 ) so you got 2x8 macro Banks on Komplete Kontrol keyboards :)
I see what you mean, no option to rename the input and output names in the user config. So what control script name to choose in Lives preferences once you have assigned the encoder cc values? Thanks
@@grahamcooke84 The one that appeared originally (not the M Daw one), so in my case it was KOMPLETE KONTROL M32 MIDI on both Input and Output and worked like a charm
I have an Ableton 11 trial, so just had to input cc numbers not controller name. Control surface gives me no additional options, so I click the same Control S Mk 2 (I tried M32 macro, A and 49 but nothing). But under Input and Output I have always had 3 options (KOMPLETE KONTROL - 1, KOMPLETE KONTROL EXT - 1, Komplete Kontrol DAW - 1). I'm not getting any midi control by choosing any combo of these. Would really appreciate any help you might be able to offer.
Thank you so much @tomlovelight2376 I've been searching for the input and output in the UserConfiguration for literally hours until I read your comment and it dawned on me that I could just change the encoder cc numbers 😅😂
There is a scale mode. There's a button at the top left on the keyboard. you can use all the scale features in Komplete Kontrol. But you don't have the light guides like you do on the S-Series.
I'm glad you made videos showing how to work with Ableton. That alone should bring you alot of views. I know I usually search Ableton issues on UA-cam so you making videos will showing how to use DAWs will definitely come in handy. 👍
Hey Sanjay how's it going with you? I've watched this video and I've been trying to follow your lead as far as mapping the Komplete Kontrol S49 MK2 Keyboard with the Ableton Live 10 Lite version and I can't seem to get it done. As far as with the Audio Effects control with the nobs. I need to know how to do it step by step. You did it with the M32 and not with the S49 MK2 Keyboard. My preferences in the Ableton Live 10 Lite version on the input and output options has only Komplete Kontrol DAW - 1, Komplete Kontrol - 1 and Komplete Kontrol EXT - 1 eventhough I created a new folder and named it Komplete Kontrol S49 MK2 for the control surface and it's still working for me.
Help, Sanjay! My UserConfig..txt appears to be different, so I cant find where to set the Input and output names. Do you have any idea of what could it be? Cheers!
Hey Sanjay C wow! This video tutorial was heaven sent. I have a better understanding. Now all I have to do is follow it while I’m installing it. Thanks again. So to use Native KOMPLETE Kontrol S49 In Ableton I have to keep the KK application open or closed in order to control and hear all of the KK sounds/instruments.
Once you do the MIDI cc setup in the KK application, you can close it. It saves those settings to your keyboard. :-) Then you just run Ableton normally.
Hello again Sanjay C I just have a few more questions. First, under preferences I did select KOMPLETE KONTROL S MK2 under the control surface tab. Now for the input tab next to the control surface tab it has 3 choices KK -1 KK EXT-1 and KK DAW -1. Which one applies to my S 49 keyboard? I know you said on the video that we only have to do this once but if I don’t select the correct port then I’ll have to do this again and again. Can you tell me which one to choose? I’m somewhat confused. Thanks I’m advance.

Thank you SO MUCH for this video.
hmm, at 2:30 the link for Mac? i do not find /library/preferences/ableton..
Great video! And very understanding!! Thanks for helping us out!
Thanks, Magic Merlin!
Thank you so much! It was really helpful.
Glad it helped!
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS! Very very helpful
Thanks heaps Sanjay. This was very helpful. Cheers !!!
You're welcome! What keyboard are you going to use it with?
@@SanjayC After watching your review videos on the Arturia Minilab MKll and Komplete Kontrol M32, I chose the Native Instruments Midi, compliments well with my Maschine Mikro MK3. Thanks again for your beginner lessons on the MK3. Would be great if you shoot some more.
Yes, I have to record a new video with the Mikro very soon.
The hero we need. Thank you Sanjay! 🙏
Haha...thanks La Frog!
Make the music you love.. Best musician advice ever
Thanks, Victor!
This is great! Thanks for the video! Is it possible to have the A49 (or M32) always open up in "MIDI mode" by default when the DAW opens? I noticed that opening the DAW always defaults the keyboard to DAW Control.
1:46 I dont have komplete kontrol M DAW for input. I have komplete kontrol M32 MIDI..
I think you need to choose the other one - not the MIDI option.
Sanjay C yeah but M DAW doesnt show up, thats the issue
Thank you for this, man.
In preferences, I chose komplete Kontrol A, like you said but on the out put, it gives me these options: komplete kontrol m32 midi, that’s it,
on the out put, it gives me the options of : microsoft gs wavetable synth, komplete kontrol m32 midi , the options you gave are not present, it works glitched and delayed. I am using ableton 11 with the M32 keyboard, I would appreciate your help!
Thank you
Helped me a lot
You're welcome!
Just came across your channel as i have been looking for a Midi controller keyboard and bought the NI Komplete Kontrol M32. You describe everything beautifully and make it look so easy, which i know it is nt :-) Fantastic videos for research and tips, excellent channel for me as a complete noice in the world of MIDI
So no scale mode? Meaning you can't the built-in scales?
There is a scale mode. There's a button at the top left on the keyboard. you can use all the scale features in Komplete Kontrol. But you don't have the light guides like you do on the S-Series.
@@SanjayC so it works in Ableton? If so, thats great news. Thanks!
Yes, scale mode in Komplete Kontrol will work in any DAW
this is a great video!! and a great help ....I'm gonna buy a M32...soon or later!
Nice!!
I'm glad you made videos showing how to work with Ableton. That alone should bring you alot of views. I know I usually search Ableton issues on UA-cam so you making videos will showing how to use DAWs will definitely come in handy. 👍
Thanks biggdrake. I hope this video reaches more people because I only learned this much later on.
thank you so much, clear , straight to the point and nice video quality, just subscribed
Thank you RaskolnikovR!
So helpful!
Thanks!
Thanks for this! ;)
You’re welcome 😊
thank you man this is rly helpful
You're welcome. glad you found it useful!
Don't forget - the S-series has 2 pages of 8 knobs (in MIDI mode). You can map Encoder 1 to 16 (CC 14 to CC 29) in the file!
Important!
In Live 11 pages works too.
You can map 16 encoders, just page up on your KK controller.
Page 1 have CC 14 - 21
Page 2 have CC 22- 29
Yeah, but you have to do this manually every time you need them which is not a great workflow. You can't automap them with UserConfiguration.txt 🙁
@@sashko-fomin You only need to write this one time, and they are auto mapped for every device with the Blue hand on.
I love Your videos Thanks for make this Video :-)
You're welcome. Which keyboard are you going to try it on?
Just Did it Thank you So Much Brother!!!
Awesome! Glad I could help you!
Thank you, very helpful.
You're welcome!
Brilliant, thanks
You’re welcome!
Epic info here!!!!!🤩
This is what i need! thank you!
Help, Sanjay! My UserConfig..txt appears to be different, so I cant find where to set the Input and output names. Do you have any idea of what could it be? Cheers!
Excellent video. Thank you!
You're welcome, Brian!
Loving your vids, so helpful
Happy to help!
Such a helpful video. Thank you!
So glad to hear that! Which keyboard are you using?
I have the NI S49 MK2. I’m finishing dinner then going into my studio to add the macro. I’ve been doing this manually for a while now.
Did everything work out?
Worked perfectly. How did you find out the specifics of copying the macro file? Again, really appreciate the help.
Nice video bro.. Thanks for this 😊
🙏🏼 you’re welcome
Crazy helpful video! 👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks!
Man, if I ever start using a DAW again, you make Ableton seem very compelling.
Thanks for another excellent presentation!
Thanks, Caid. Maybe one day I’ll pull you over to the other side! 😆
@@SanjayC hahaha, I started on Fruity Loops, back in 98. I'm just unable to get emotionally into the act of music creation using a mouse and keyboard (computer keyboard).
Maybe one day. Either way, it's certainly a pleasure watching your videos, and your positive attitude is always super uplifting.
Keep making amazing content like this
Thanks, will do!
this is still old gold!
my M32 came in today and this video really helped me to get this done! thank you Sanjay!
Nice! 👍 Glad I could help!
@@SanjayC thank you 🙏

Dear Sir, could you please make a video about this topic but on Logic pro X? That'd be really really helpful!!
