How was he lying though? He's worked with Quentin Miller, The Weeknd, and a few others from time to time, but the usually, he does like to write all of his own stuff.
This is common in the music industry.... Look at the writing credits on Kendrick's last album (Mr. Moral & The Big Steppers), there are 6 to 11 co-writers credited for each track.
If Kendrick wrote all his own songs, it would only be him on the writing credits.

I honestly wasn't even originally aware The Weeknd was a large part (albeit not the only one) of why "Take Care" is EASILY my favorite Drake album to date. Realizing that a little later on actually made me lose more respect for Drake: like OF COURSE he HAD to manipulate more artistically-driven individuals into handing him tracks to make his own body of work sound better.
The Weeknd isn't perfect (The Idol was a dumpster fire)................but one thing I deeply admire about Abel is how he has remained steadily emotionally committed to building upon a narrative, a thoroughline of emotional storytelling from era to era and though he obviously has some excellent individual singles from each of his albums, he has always strived to be an albums artist as well as distinct visual concepts each album era to help move the story behind his character forward and evolve naturally.
You should probably listen to actual rap and stop wasting your time with incredibly lame, whack artists like them
The weekend is so much more talented than Drake. He has such a unique voice, clearly is a talented song writer, and, yeah, he can lean into 'I'm a badass sex demon and I'm a badass' vibes and sometimes its a little cheesy. But he does evolve, he does have focus and conceptually driven albums. Drake cant focus on one topic in a damn rap beef, he makes bops, and thats partly because he steals them from more talented artists.
Drake is like a literal, universal groomer. He grooms teenage girls for sex and he wines and dines artists for their talent. If he thinks someone will be competition in the future, he's all sugar so he can sign them, throw them in the ov-hoe dungeon, and jack their songs.

art is subjective and music is one of the most subjective genres of art out there. one sound might be appealing to some, whilst to others its intolerable. that's the beauty of free will. i *hate* gnocci - i think it's the most repugnant thing one could eat and a blight on this planet... but that doesnt mean it objectively *is* disgusting. *i* just dont like it, others do like it and some even love it - i could not give less of a shit. others liking gnocci doesnt impact my life whatsoever.
if there were an era of music that was *objectively* better though, it would be this generation - thanks to social media, anyone can put out art nowadays. there is music out there for *everyone* today, meanwhile in your generation there was very little variety due to artists being forced to pigeon hole themselves to one sound in order to see any kind of success or even be able to put their music out.
one great artist that comes to mind when i think of that classic "90s" sound would be scarlip - songs like "this is new york" feel like great homages to the general vibe of that era's music, whilst still incorporating fresher elements to engage multiple audiences
