How could anyone not see the value in this arc is wild. It even foreshadows so much moving forward in the upcoming seasons, like season 6
Season 7 is about to expose people who write this arc off
Here we clearly see that despite Deku getting stronger and getting even more of a grasp on his quirk, that doesn't always mean a guaranteed victory, especially against a quirk like Gentle's. Slamming full force into an elastic sheet of air is definitely something that's a problem while fighting him.
Gentle's quirk is a good counter to physical amp quirks.
I seriously don't see how people think this arc and fight are pointless.
Not only is the villain hilarious and understandable, and his power interesting, not only do we get to see our main character use a new ability, but said main character has a VERY good reason for wanting to stop an otherwise-lowkey foe.
Eri: "I'm getting . . . kind of excited."
That should be enough for ANYONE to get invested in this arc. We all know what this poor little girl has been through, and Gentle, silly and semi-harmless as his plan is, poses a threat to Eri's happiness, so we should all wanna see Deku bring him down.

this is a setup arc, the pay off is pretty good
i love this arc.
Apart from the gentle-deku fight..everything else seems something kids their age should be doing..School festivals..just goofing off and having fun
It’s my favorite fight outside of the final arc. The stakes are personal and grounded and the way they fight each other is so dynamic.
Tomera Shigaraki might be the foil to Deku, the successor to All Might and the ninth holder of One for All.
But Gentle Criminal is the foil to Izuku Medoria, the once Quirkless child who wanted to be a hero despite society's claims that it was impossible.
Had Izuku not had that chance encounter with All Might, he very well could have ended up like Gentle Criminal.
Predecessor is someone who comes before. You mean "successor to All-Might".

Something I'd like to point out, these episodes originally aired right around the time the pandemic started; making Gentle's disguise an eerie coincidence.
Not really :) Japanese people have worn masks in public for much longer just as a basic hygiene precaution
@@elviiralehtonen1604 Yes, I am aware of this. And the chapter, where he was wearing that disguise, was also released several months before the pandemic started. I just found the sight of him in that type of mask, around that time, to be an eerie coincidence, in hindsight.

I always wonder what the public perception of UA students after Sport festival was. Deku, Bakugo and Shoto had the biggest fights. Shoto most likely having fan clubs full of girls, Bakugo most likely has dudes since he is so strong.
And this episode confirmed that Deku is seen as insane (well he is) by the public.
For someone called “Gentle” he really knows how to put up a fight
If you think about all the factors he'd need to keep track of every second during this fight, WHILE he's bloody fighting Deku of all people too, he's REALLY freaking skilled. He's low key a freaking genius.

Gentle is still unironically one of if not my favorite villain of the series so far. Maybe because of the VA’s delivery

You know what I noticed during this fight?
Delu flashed back to four different girls to spur him on, and NONE of them were Ururaka. 😅 (Eri, Jiro, Mina, and Hatsume)
Not a dig at the ship or Ururaka's character, as I love both as much as everyone else; just something I found funny.

Alright! With such unshakeable stakes the spirit of a mustache and the literal embodiment of willpower collide. The only thing that rivals this is…King Bob-omb and Mario. For their mustaches provide even GREATER power.
But 1st, we see why Iida is vital to the dance team over Deku. (Iida literally makes chair squeaking noises.) Genuinely starting to think Mina either doesn’t like Deku too much or she’s comparing him to someone else. Kirishima’s depression and selfless drive ARE similar to Deku so honestly either or checks out. (Or she’s trying to spring Uraraka into action I don’t know. It’s something she would do) Deku I SWEAR you don’t need your quirk at all to carry Aoyama even if he’s in full armor at this point. Or at ANY point you’ve known him actually. And why isn’t Sero helping with tape suspension? Deku is just taking hits today. Thankfully not literally when Hound Dog kicks them out of the gym.
Kaminari seems seriously excited to both perform and mess with Jiro. And she literally feels like she needs to FOCUS on having fun.
And then we get people using their quirks practically around. Momo’s creation, Kaminari’s electricity, they all have little errands they slot into. Heck Kirishima is a personal punching bag. And Deku? NO QUESTIONING what he does and doesn’t do. No one offers even with Iida who would consider it his SWORN DUTY to do early morning shopping. Is this how they’re making up for how the class was actually consoling the kids in the Overhaul raid? Gotta make up lost ground. Can’t let Deku feel like he’s getting TOO much comfort. Setting aside that, Deku is on all these circumstances purely because he can’t say no to such requests. And at least Kaminari is TRYING to get him to think about time management.
Mei makes air cannon gloves! Now while this gear is super cool to help the backlash and accuracy of his new moderation moves, I do also look at All-Might and say “why aren’t you teaching him how to make tornadoes and such? Can’t he do that now with 20% usage?” Apparently not. Not like he might need that variety of use.
And he encounters Gentle Criminal. The dastardly fiend nearly ruined the taste of the tea! (What you think Gentle Criminal is the fiend? Perish the thought! His giant collar says otherwise!) This elusive scoundrel has tempted our hero with the ever so captivating topic of tea. SURELY he’s a connoisseur. But ever so typical he was just listening to the sound of his wonderfully recognizable face. Which is a shame. His disguise was completely FLAWLESS. And now we have to make the HASTLE of making an. Ugh. A captivating fight scene. How droll.
Deku won’t even allow so much as a hastle for ANYONE else as he takes the burden for himself. No pros, no police. Just you, me, and my mustache. And what power does this shaven lad have. Nothing major like the hopes and dreams of ANY kind of relaxation for his fellow classmates. Jiro actually asked Deku to help with her note taking, we’re seeing the slightest GLIMPSE of a smile on a girl that literally doesn’t know HOW to. And he IS going against a villain who overpowered 5 pros to be fair. So this is a pretty tough challenge. And this opponent is the EXACT thing Deku needs to face to improve. His life isn’t on the line, but it’s not just living. It’s living happy. And he wants to preserve that. And Gentle Criminal IS living quite happily but he sounds more like a hero as he names his attacks for his show.
Now say what you will, this fight is nothing short of splendid. The creativity of elasticity and how Deku responds to it is just SO much fun. From the elastic air shields, to bouncing Deku’s shots back by bouncing around at himself. And Deku is making upside down shots, multitasking and holding a large steel support beam one handed while ALSO maintaining pressure, (that thing has to be HEAVY. Deku can smash through steel and concrete pretty easily now but chooses lower levels to not break construction areas even if it’s more pressure on himself.) and getting both Gentle Criminal and La Brava to understand just how passionate HE will be. To the point La Brava even knows if it comes down to it Deku will break his own fingers to stop them.
There’s a lot of creativity and just active silliness in all of this but it doesn’t matter the stakes because to Deku and Gentle it’s everything to prove themselves here and now with honestly no stage, no true clout. Just 2 guys who want to do good by those around them. One for the wrong reasons but it stands.
Next time, the climax for our favorite headline making caper and Deku.

So on the day of the school festival Uraraka and Deku spent enough time together for them both to consider it a date without it being official. And when Toga asks Deku to be her boyfriend he spills out what he thought that meant to date in a panic and described exactly how Uraraka and Deku spent the day at the school festival verbatim before Tsu essentially chases Deku off the field for Uraraka to deal with Toga. That’ll likely happen in 5 episodes or less actually.
You absolutely need super strength to run back and forth carrying the weight of a person on armor.
This is one of the best fights in the show and the stakes have never been lower

He would be a real one if he could wait but at the same time I can only imagine how difficult that would be to have to wait that long in order to see what happens in S7 since they haven’t even reached S5
This arc has so much to offer, honestly. I could rant about it, but to focus on the example mentioned in the video....Deku DOES grow from this arc. His conflict with Gentle made him reflect on the lived realities of the villains he fights, which changed the way he approaches fights in the future. It's an important development in his approach to heroism. I get this arc is less intense (and the anime could've adapted it differently to create the best pace), but sometimes it feels like people just devalue it cause it's not as "hype." There's plenty that this arc adds to the story, and I think it's great that Horikoshi took time to focus on Eri's recovery after being separated from Overhaul instead of making it seemed like she was saved once and she was suddenly all better. Honestly, people need to learn how to say "this part just wasn't for me" instead of trying to justify it with "objective" claims that turn out not to be true because they just weren't invested enough to actually take in what is happening.

That's what's great about MHA: every single bit of it, even the less relevant arc, has an impact on the story altogether. The encounter with Gentle Criminal and La Brava may look like a filler arc, but it's actually very important for the future.

I really wanted gentle to win in the end and it would have been very intresting to see what would've happend after, and i was just thinking at 13:54 he could have conjured a barrier between him and deku so he wouldn't get hit and though he might not have seen it he might have heared the wind pressure
