- 2012 06-05: We bring on Gerald Abraham, aka LA Akira, to talk about the earliest history of the fighting game community. We start at Street Fighter 1, go through the release of Street Fighter 2, and talk all the way up through Hyper Fighting and SF3 about tournaments, the best players, and what the scene was like. One of my favorite episodes so far!
You can follow Gerald on Twitter at @LAAkira and find more information on the game at VirtuaFighter.com.

man, i still come back to this episode just to listen to these cool stories.
i really hope you bring back LA Akira and tell more awesome stories
We need more stuff like this.... I started back on World Warrior myself here in Australia and I love hearing stories about those days.
There's NOTHING I like doing more than hanging around with old friends, reminiscing about the good old days.
When you see a couple of legends in the FGC talking about their stories, it just becomes so much more. Seeing where most things come from what we now take for granted.
Ultra David & J Chenzor: Keep up the excellent work!
This felt like a 'Behind the Scenes' DVD-feature
Still one of my favorite episodes
Great video, brings back tons of memories of playing CPS1 Street Fighter. Hyper Fighting FTW!!
Do more of these. This was fascinating!
Glad to see this on UA-cam, I love to hear about the old days of fighting games.
WOW, this was so cool. So many great memories. I knew Gerald when he was just a small kid back in the PCengine CD Fighting Street "Pony Toy Go Round" days. Then years later, me and my buds where hanging at the Marina Del Rey arcade playing SF2, and him and friend came in and totally changed are small world upside down. They showed us how combo's could be done that couldn't be blocked, and we where just like, WTF!? So Gerald opened up Northridge, Pico, UCLA and all points in between. Thanks!
Oh, I guess that episode was even up before this one? Didn't show up in my feed for some reason. Well, thanks anyway! :)
This show was absolutely fantastic BTW, and I really can't wait to see LA Akira and/or other original original oldschool SF heads for some more history lessons in the future!
Nice vid. Never seen this before, but always love to hear the history of the fgc
great episode
Wow..SF2 must of been really fun back in the day.
Did LA akira continue his story in another video you guys made? I am very interested to hear more.
Great ep! Definitely bring him back for another!
In regards to game mechanics, how does the Super Nintendo versions of SF2, SF2H, and SSF2 differ from the arcade versions? Generally speaking, the SNES versions were the closest to arcade. How did the Genesis and PC Engine versions compare?
Finally! Been waiting for ages to see this since Twitch archives don't agree with my internet connection for some reason. Will you be able to post the pre-Evo episode, well... "pre Evo"? I'd really like to be able to share it with a friend who'll be watching Evo with me but isn't very well versed in anything but AE (not to mention, watch it myself).
Is there audio of this somewhere, so I can listen to it as a podcast? I'd rather take this with me than sit here at my PC and let the video play in the background...
Thanks for this. Guys, please put "Tomo Ohira" in the tags and/or description for trainspotters like me, lol. Inspiring stuff ...
Thanks UA-cam for recommending me a 8 year old vid
Audio kicks in at 1:03

I wont lie i thought this had something to do with Asa akira

Woaaaaah.
What the hell is LAAkira drinking?!?
