I would love to see a followup video with pictures or video of the home libraries being discussed-visuals are such a great help for many to be able to see and then replicate in their homes!

I really like the washy tape idea! In regards to loaning books, I keep a notecard on one of the shelves and record the person’s name, the book, and the date I loaned it. When it’s returned, I mark through it.

I love the washi tape idea! Even with a dedicated library, I find it difficult to find room for all the books, lol.

Having a shelf for library books has absolutely saved our family. We all love reading and check out too many books. The six bin system is a great idea.

Love this discussion! I organize by topic. Then like Sonya, give the kids their own books to keep in their room & also they have their own shelf in the main library. My husband and I also have our own sections. I do keep the antique books in the main library in places where they can be seen & enjoyed by all of us. My kids are very careful with them & we all love being reminded of the time they came from and how they made it to our library. They are all a beautiful reminder to our family.

Love this! This topic deserves even more detail with photos! I would love best ways to divide them in shelves, labeling, preserving old books, a digital library app, etc.

I love this. My kids aren't yet able to put things back in the proper place, so I've given up on caring so much about organizing our many many books. It only makes everyone frustrated now. But someday I would love to have an organized library again! ♥️

So funny that you mentioned rearranging organizing bookshelves by color! I was listening to this while i was organizing our bookshelf of picture books by color. 😄 I just did that shelf by color, though, for the same reason you said: how would you find what you were looking for? I like to refresh the organization in our home library a bit each semester to keep things fresh and interesting for my kids and encourage them to discover a new favorite. I do keep certain categories together like history and science and poetry and reference, etc. This last time i was able to get all of our (non-history) chapter books on one bookshelf, organized alphabetically by authors last name. So gratifying! 😄 Enjoyed listening while i organized books!

Yes, we have definitely had to purchase multiples so that the children could have their own copies of their favorites.

I need bookshelves for every room in the house. 😬 This was motivating for me to start work on a better organization system for what seems like a mountain of books taking over!

I have one shelf per subject, but only include on those shelves my curricula and the associated books. For example, on my science shelf, I have a dinosaur curriculum along with five books that are associated, plus a fifth book that I have decided to include as a part of that year's science curriculum. So where do I keep my non-curricula science books, like 'all about weather,' etc.?

Alphabetical by topic and in that topic alphabetical by author's last name.

Height is a big part of my organizing - I want books of similar height to live together, to avoid warping (I have had to try to alleviate warping in some thrifted books and this was one lesson I learned!), so that’s one of the first considerations. After that I do have lots of little categories that live together. History spines, chronologically arranged biographies and historical fictions, free reads and literature classics arranged with younger aged ones on lower shelves and more mature ones on higher shelves, fantasy, dystopians, picture books and tall books, science books, some Christian literature lives together with theological/devotional-ish and church history books, business. There’s also a Tolkien area and a CS Lewis area 😍 and a more decorative shelf in my bedroom with just a few choice beautiful-edition favorites.

What is the author's name of 'Write Right'?
