  • Dan Gable gives us a tour around his Rocky Gym which doubles as a garage/shed behind his house. We get a real treat when Dan Gable takes us up and shows us the mat that he used to train on when he was still competing as well as the weight set he had in high school.

When I was a kid I read where he did the deck of cards workout where you turn the card over and do that many reps with pushups or chins or whatever you we’re doing. Tried it and it really helped my strength and development as a kid in my teens. Dan and amateur boxing champion Nick Wells were my teen years heroes.

    • @drinfernodds

Floyd Mayweather did the same thing. When I trained i knew it was going to be a rough night if my coach had a deck of cards in his hand lol.

No one ever talks about this because the people in the sport of wrestling like to romanticize the sport to a mystical state, but one of the reasons for Gable's success that no one ever mentions was because of his involvement in weight lifting. Not many guys were lifting weights back in the late 60's and early 70's. Weight lifting didn't really start to become a thing until the University of Nebraska introduced it as a mandatory training regiment for their football team sometime in the 80's. Gable was successful for a multitude of reasons, and weight lifting when not many others were, is one of them. It should be mentioned more often as keys to why he was as successful as he was.

To avoid any confusion I think what this gentleman is saying/referring to is not some great wrestler, martial artist, mma fighter etc lol I think what he's saying is just regular people average young punks in late teens and 20's & if thats what your saying well then he'll yes no doubt, I agree 💯%. He could still stretch out, slam, suplex, submit alotta people on the planet when you think of it in numbers. #straightFacts
