Something I noticed when I started doing Zercher squats too is how much more my core engages naturally from having to pull against the force in front of you, rather than push against it like in a back squat
This is legit an amazing exercise. Sometimes my older family members fall and they need to be lifted in this type of position to stand up again. I’ve never trained this movement but thank you so much for the idea.
yeah I recently had to help someone up like this and I just realized that the zercher squat perfectly mimicks that position. Even though it's not that hard to lift someone up like this, it can't hurt to be stronger in that position. And I'm sure it would be useful in other scenarios as well
People also tend to forget that when you put the bar infront of the body, the center of mass is more inline with the body, so when you squat down you can keep your hips and ribcage stacked(which more people should start focusing on, when they doing any exercise) and your range of motion gets a lot better😊
Saw them on youtube for a long time but never dared to try them. For whatever reason, this short inspired me and I did them today for the first time, they felt surprisingly comfortable and they were fun, so thanks Eugene!
As a brick/stone mason, Zercher squats translate perfectly to better functionality on job sites. Zerchers forever! Back squats are just never going to translate like that.
great general stimulus as well. for a lot of people it ends up as a squat-y hinge. doesnt really target any one area very well but targets a lot of muscle mass in a single movement which has utility.
Love Zercher squats. Still figuring out Zercher cleans though. Bruised my forarms so bad it looked like I'd been tortured. Didn't hurt though. Probably just need to get used to them.
about the elbows issue, as I workout at home I wear my BJJ Gi when doing zerchers. But you can use a heavy jacket, hoodie or shirt or wrap a towel on the bar 💪
I never would have thought of this as a squat. This is perfect for some of my summer activities coming up. I genuinely might have to haul someone in an emergency.
I’d be cautious about pain in your arms. I have done zercher squats with 315lbs and I felt a sharp pain in my left elbow. My left arm stayed numb for nearly a month and I’ve never done a zercher lift since that day.
Love the way he does this front squat with absolute perfect form and u can just imagine that right there is hard asf but but more beneficial for everyday life
I might actually try these. I have a very sensitive nervous system and anything with relatively high axial fatigue almost always gives me migraines and causes a lot of vomiting. So back squats and hack squats are actually off the table for me as options for leg day. Belt squats and Leg press have been my go to as an alternative. Im curious if these would have less axial fatigue as well.
This shit absolutely wreaked havoc on my forearms. Nothing more humbling than box squatting 315 for reps then having to do 115 pound zerchers and struggling to hold it 🤣
Just started these recently, only problem I’m having is that I feel like I can go a lot heavier than I am, but my elbows aren’t used to it yet. Hit 205 today and felt like I had the strength to do a lot more, I’m looking forward to be able to see how much I can really do.
I recently started doing this and i fell in love with it but only problem is the area above elbow where i hold the bar with starts burning like crazy as if my arm will fall apart when i go above 100 kgs.
Hey eugene ,love your content man, i just wanted to ask u a question that is their leg exercises where a person can only stand on their toes ?. I needed to know cause recently i had a right heel injury which is prohibiting me from doing any compound leg movements as all pretty much require to stand on the whole feet , rightfully so.
There's a sitting work out you can do. I forgot what it was called but it's usually attached to end of the bench for leg work out. It won't give you full leg work out but at least you can do something.
It's an amazing excercise. But aren't you releasing tension at the bottom? I have never really understood why make pauses when tension is gone. It's like ligaments / connective tissue testing?
I'd really appreciate an answer off someone who knows more than me. I've been told to avoid back squats as I bulged two disks a couple year ago but I miss squatting like alot. Would these be safe for me? Or safer at least? Idk what to do for legs bar bike riding now lol
I love Zercher squats, but I messed up my biceps in the right hand with 100kg yesterday🥹. Inside part of the biceps torn off from the ligament. Shit happens even I was doing heavy pull ups with 40-60 kg, I thought my ligaments are strong enough. Be careful. Hope the operation will go well and they will return everything in the correct place and I will come back even stronger.
Why would I do a painful exercise when there are other pain-free alternatives? My back never hurt when doing regular squats and it doesn't start hurting as I increase the load. My elbows with this exercise on the other hand...
Good for when you need to drag the intruder back into your garage area
🤝 you get it
What was the video
After the chloroform hits, yes.
Plot twist: you’re the intruder.

Yes!!
@@coacheugeneteoI would love a list of strongman exercises for day to day stuff

Not just the upper back. It also stresses/strengthens the mid-back.
Absolutely
@@coacheugeneteo A thick pair of knee sleeves over the elbow joint relieves discomfort and enables progression to heavier Zerchers.
@@brianbackes4974ive always felt like any padding makes the lift feel unstable for me.

Thank you, first time learning about them. The demo at the end was a nice touch to put it into day-to-day context too.

Nice to see this exercise getting some love, I used to back squat was never really a fan then moved to front squat and now I've ended up these
Same here
how's your progress with these? Damn they just feel so damn good
Same here
Anatomically can hardly squat in comfort these days
Same
As a wrestler this exercise is amazing for wrestling
Saw them on youtube for a long time but never dared to try them.
For whatever reason, this short inspired me and I did them today for the first time, they felt surprisingly comfortable and they were fun, so thanks Eugene!
The only benefit of this exercise was when I told her: Do you know how it feels to be picked-up by a real man.
fk i got samething in mind
lol
Helps carry thick women 💪🏾
This just reminded me that zercher squats are on my program tomorrow
Tried it this morning and I love it!!
But most importantly, for the difficult
I use elbow sleeves, eliminates the pain
It's become one of my weekly staples this year. Up to 160kg today. Feels great
I love the sound effects for the text.
Keep adding personality to your channel ❤
You can also perform this movement with sandbags
TOTALLY AGREE! Theyve always been my fav tbh
As a brick/stone mason, Zercher squats translate perfectly to better functionality on job sites. Zerchers forever!
Back squats are just never going to translate like that.
Wearing 7 mm neoprene sleeves easily fixes elbow discomfort completely.
Another one is strongman sandbags! Doing carries and squats with those is incredibly fun and effective!
I own one at 200lbs! Very effective!!!
Nice!!
great general stimulus as well. for a lot of people it ends up as a squat-y hinge. doesnt really target any one area very well but targets a lot of muscle mass in a single movement which has utility.
More load on the quads and less load on the lower back in my experience.
Exactly true especially if you elevate the heels
Just heard about these squats and I’m gonna try them today!
They feel fantastic for deep squats
Love Zercher squats. Still figuring out Zercher cleans though. Bruised my forarms so bad it looked like I'd been tortured. Didn't hurt though. Probably just need to get used to them.
I do this with large sandbags. It's given me some of the best strength and conditioning sessions.
I love doing those with heavy sandbags
My first thought.
Back when I was a kid I used to m ok ve sand bags all over the yard. It gave me an strong core and solid legs

Zercher a full body workout on another level
those deep pause zerchers lookin EXPLOSIVE
I fuckin loooooove these... I superset them with jefferson squats. 🤘🏿
Good video...I. Actually about to do 6 sets of 145 with zercher squats
Wow nothing has sold me on zerchers before. I might actually do them now
Love me some Zerchers!
That's similar to how i carry seed corn. Great lifting position
Im gonna give this a try
zerchers are great !
Eugene, you look amazing. So healthy and fit. Imo the ideal body type and what id lile to look like. Goals
I was a skeptical Olympic weightlifter until I saw that body drag at the end. Yup. Ok fine I’ll do them 😂
😂😂
Maybe I’ll give these a try next meso

Lower the weight and build up the tolerance.
@@fitness_arena_mtl7513 Works for some. But not for everyone.
People are simply build differently.
Halve the weight, then progress slowly.
Did you use any padding around your elbows? Padding makes a big difference.
my wrestling coach made us do these in the summer for a reason
You can put a towel on the bar if you don't want the elbow discomfort.

But is the limiting factor at that point your glutes/quads or your arms?
@@jimryanor6616 This is the real question. Surely your biceps would be failing first ?
I've seen people do 500 pound zercher dead-lifts.
Lmao i can hear the knee pops 😭 I have the same issue it's annoying 💀
I started doing them today exactly like this felt amazing but brutal on my lower back/extensors...
As a professional Mercenary, I approve this exercise.
Ew.
Really helps with those buddy drags lmfao
Great for underhooks

its nice to do them from pins
Will you be making an in depth video on how to do this? It says that it promotes thoracic rounding which I don't completely understand

My biceps hurt doing this
With his zercher squat spamming, hes making me reconsider
I do this carrying groceries
I do these with an axle bar
How would you program these ? Adding them to leg day? Feels like they would also tax your arms quite heavily
Can u show how to set up it in elbow i put the bar in the middle of my eblow and it hurt my tendon and my radial a lot it also make nerve tingling 😢

Do you program them as an auxiliary?

Now how would i attempt this on a Smith or should i only try it off the rack
💯
how do u do zercher deads from the floor without excessive lower back rounding?
I tried this before but my forearm hurts a lot. Any tips for that?
I don't know. the bar on the back seems way more comfortable.
I have a genuine question, would this not load a lot of pressure onto the elbow joints?

I’ve been teaching people this movement for the last four years. Watch what happens when you practice it.
I have double curve scoliosis is this training dangerous for my back ?
If you really want carryover to grappling, do them with a bodyweight sandbag.
you convinced me, but counterpoint - they're hard lol.
vs front squats for anterior loading?

I can only go to 90 degrees with zerchers because the bar hits my legs
Is it as good if you do it on a smith machine?
I have a big belly which makes it difficult for me to do zercher.
Would this be useful to get better at carrying someone bridal style?
For me the first and only reason to do this type of squat is to try to rupture a tendon.
Just use a barbell pad and you will profit in huge amounts with this exercise, always take care of your tendons.
