    I live in south coastal (gulf coast) Florida. We call them Poinciana's. I pulled two shoots right out of the ground from the base of one very large tree. The seed pod popped open and the seeds that fell rooted, i brought them home and potted them right away, today they are about 12 feet tall, the one in the ground is huge and flowering, the one in the giant planter by the pool is nearly as full and healthy. I love them! Now i need to find a Jacaranda to plant about 50 feet away from the poinciana so that i have ted flowers and blue flowers all over my street by my house.

    Oh wow.. thank you so much!
    I thought I was going crazy..
    I bought some seeds from amazon, a siple starter pack.
    But the instruction was bad. There was nowhere a "they need a minimum of 70F". I was waiting for two months already.
    So thank you for this!

    We live in 9B & planted a seedling in our home of 12 years that grew into a beautiful (what I call) red umbrella. Would lose it's foliage in fall/winter & just bounce back all spring/summer. I loved how much shade it provided there.

    The easiest way is to put the seed in a paper towel well moistened water. Put in a bag with zipper for 3-4 days on a window on sun. And that's all. No need to sharpen and or cut the seeds, do not need to do anything.

    I live in Northeast Kansas, and I am growing an indoor Delonix Regia from seed, planning to have it has an indoor Bonsai. It is about 8 inches tall so I figure I will start trimming off some of the branches in the spring time. I had it in my four season sun room all summer, and now with temps down on the 30's I have it inside by a very sunny southern facing window. I am wondering do I need to keep the tree soil wet or can I cut back from the daily watering of 4 oz of water.

    • @InteractiveGardening

      Probably at least 5 hours of full sunlight unless you have them under grow lights!! I am pretty sure they prefer full sun because they are tropical plants. Hope this helps!

    I have 3 seeds that germinated. Two are very close together. (less than a quarter inch) I was planning to bonsai them. They are about 3 inches tall now. How well do they take trunk combining? Also when is best to re-pot the first time?

    • @InteractiveGardening
      @InteractiveGardening  6 років тому +1

      What do you mean by trunk combining? Like pruning? I would say try to avoid pruning because these plants HATE it. I killed mine by pruning because they got really stressed. And you can re-pot them once they have three sets of leaves!

      Interactive Gardening guys to make these into bonsais takes years is all about patience n if your in grow zones lower then 11 I’m in zone 9a in Florida they grow on there on in south Florida I’m from Central Florida but if you live below does is best to keep them indoors in winter n if there seedlings plant them in a one gallon por wait till it grows to desired high then only prune them ones on the bugs n stem what it’s growing up it will cause it to back bud everywhere then move to 5 gallon to work on thinking your trunk after the trunk is in desire thickness you can re pot in a deep bonsai training pot good luck it only takes about 5 to 10 years to have bonsai looking material it’s worth the wait

They are on a south facing window receiving sun all day. And then I close the curtain during the night. I don’t know if it’s I’m watering too much or not. Or if it’s getting too much sun. Not sure where to keep it. 😢 I already killed another species for not watering enough.

      As long as they avoid frost and winter, they should live and keep growing! There are occasional issues that everyone faces with leaf browning and drop, but just keep them watered and maybe add some fertilizer when it looks like growth is slowing down

    • @InteractiveGardening
      @InteractiveGardening  7 років тому +3

      Definitely! But germination will take a lot longer, because the seed coat is very thick. Even just rubbing them on sandpaper will help the water permeate the seed coat and speed up germination. Best of luck! :)

    Hi, I just bought Delonix Regia seeds and i live in South Africa. I have 3 questions:
    1) Will it be easy to bonsai the tree as that is what i am looking to do?
    2) How successful are the seeds in the germination process? I have 10 seeds so how many will germinate do you think?
    3) How do you manage to bonsai the tree and stop it from growing into a massive tree?
    Thank you so much.

    • @InteractiveGardening
      @InteractiveGardening  7 років тому +1

      Hi! Thank you for your questions!
      1) Yes very easy
      2) I had a 100% germination rate when I grew D. regia seeds
      3) Do a lot of pruning to maintain the shape and size of the tree. This may cause the plant to drip sticky and smelly sap due to stress, but just gently hose this off
      Best of luck! Thanks for watching! :)

      Make sure what you planted them in has drainage. If there is no drainage and they are sitting in water, they will rot. Keep them moist but not soaking

    I have one seedling that survived and is now around 2ft tall. Quite a spindly stalk but with several lush branches at the top. The little branches seem to dry out and drop off as new ones form at the top. Is this supposed to happen? I need to do something with it now as the pot is getting too small again. Would it survive if I planted it in a very sheltered part of the garden. I am in the South East of England. If not, I have no idea what to do with it but would be very sad if it died.

    • @InteractiveGardening

    Hey! I bought some seeds for Delonix Regia and found some info online before seeing this that said soak them in hot water for 24 hours, or put them in boiling water then let the water cool down over night then plant them. It's been about a week with no luck, I wasn't aware these seeds required scarification, so I will plant some more after scarifying today. 70 degree minimum. Is that a lowest possible, or anything below 70 degrees will have less success?

    • @InteractiveGardening
      @InteractiveGardening  7 років тому +2

      Hi! Yes scarification is very helpful with these seeds because the seed coat is very thick. I recommend taking a knife or sandpaper and wearing away the seed coat until you can see the white of the inside of the seed, and then soaking them in room temperature water. Conversely, you can soak them in 75+ degree water for a couple hours to soften the shell, which does essentially the same thing. Just soaking them at 70 degrees without any kind of scarification may not be very successful. Hope this helps!

    • @brandonyoung-kemkes1128
      @brandonyoung-kemkes1128 5 років тому

      No they don’t but he don’t need sacrification You just boil them to death that’s all do you like warm water to start breaking down the outer casing but after that it doesn’t matter if it’s warm it’s just soaks it up and peels and I had no problem throwing my seeds all of them germinated 100%

    Hello! I planted some Delonix Regia seeds back on 4/22/17 and have one that has survived to this day and it's about 7-8 inches tall. I've always kept it in in-direct sunlight and it's been doing great up until the last month or two. I've noticed that the growth has been kind of stunted and now, within the last couple weeks, the leaves and branches have been turning yellow and falling off. I noticed that this started happening when the weather started getting colder (the tree has always been inside though at a constant 72ish degrees fahrenheit). I also figured this might be the tree's way off killing off old to make room for new growth but I've noticed the yellowing is starting to occur on some of the newest growth. I've emailed the company and asked them about it but they aren't sure. Has this happened to any of yours? Any help is appreciated, thanks!

    • @InteractiveGardening
      @InteractiveGardening  6 років тому

      Yes, that exactly happened to my trees. Not entirely sure what it was, but in my case it was accompanied with dripping sap. I am trying to grow new seeds to see if I have better luck. I would Google what their ideal growing conditions are and try to stick with those, though!

    • @gleaming4shadows
      @gleaming4shadows 6 років тому +1

      Thanks for the response! Glad to know that it's happened to someone else and not just me, haha. Did your tree survive? About a day after I asked you this question I noticed tons of tiny little green bugs crawling on the soil around my tree. I went to my local gardening shop and showed them some of the bugs and they said they appeared to be thrips and that could be causing my problem (but the shorter hours of sunlight might also be a contributing factor). So I've added some of the houseplant insect control powder they recommended and luckily have not seen any additional yellowing. I'm not very lucky when it comes to plants and trees so I would hate to lose all the progress it's made but maybe the planting gods will have mercy on me this once, haha! Hopefully this is just a hiccup and it will get back on track. I love how fast this kind of tree grows and being able to see the progress quickly. Thanks for the reply and good luck with your new trees!

      @InteractiveGardening  6 років тому +1

      I had moved the Delonix Regia trees into a school and then one day they disappeared (they were probably thrown out lol), so I'm not sure if they would have survived the yellowing. Like I said, I am trying to grow more noe. I hope yours make it!! It looks like you are on a good path with helping them

Put the seeds in a moist paper towel in a sealed plastic bag, and change the air inside every other day. This way you can keep a good eye on the seeds. I would even cut open or nick the end of the seed cost so you can see the white inside, this will speed up germination the most
