      Thanks for checking in!! Im doing good here! Covid finally hit this region of Nunavut after 2 years, so the community is dealing with that currently. And with no hospitals here, only a clinic with a few nurses, it can be hard. Serious cases have to get flown out to yellowknife or Edmonton depending on the severity.

    Thank you so much for showing a perspective of Nunuvut that not many show, most only show the built up areas of where they visit or move to, not the surrounds or the outskirts. One question....Did you survive the rush minute? We have read the snowmobiles go everywhere during the rush minute.

    hey bro just found you, your vids are sick! I'm so psyched to teach in the arctic after I finish my degree. I'm just a little Australian who's top two bucket list items are 1) see a narwhal and 2) play ice hockey on frozen lake under northern lights. was wondering what the social life is like in nunavut? is there much for young adults to do, places to meet people, other locals / teachers / travellers to go exploring with? all the best man

    • @mylesnmilestv
      @mylesnmilestv  2 роки тому

      Hey Morgan!! Thank you so much for reaching out! Good news is you'll mostlikely be able to achieve both of your goals when you come here😁. I have seen tons of Narwhals and their tusks! Northern lights have become so common to me now that I don't even pay much attention as I once did haha. In terms of a social life and fun, it really depends on where you go and the people that are there. If you go to a place like Iqaluit or Arviat, (2 biggest cities) then you will have a good amount of things to do for fun because these places are much more developed. You actually have restaurants and a place to grab a drink. However your experience of the Arctic is also more watered down because these places are so much more developed. If you come to a place that I more remote like where I am, then you will have almost none of the amenities that your used to such as restaurants and a place to grab a drink for example. But on the flip side you have a lot more of a raw experience of what it means to live in the Arctic and there's way more chances to actually go out with locals on land trips an hunting. There's also more of a sense of community you feel as long as the town accepts you. So in summary it is definitely a different experience in a smaller town vs a larger town even if they are both in the Arctic. Add me on Instagram at @myles_the_teacha and dm any more questions you have🙂 id be happy to help

You're a lot more free to do what you want in terms of hunting an fishing , and subsistence living. But I would only recommend coming here if you have a job lined up or else affording to live will be extremely hard. I applied to Ed- Canada and was granted the job by the Gov of Nunavut!

    Peace my Friend, appreciate you showing your journey. I want to ask you. I recently saw an opportunity there for a social community worker. And I just graduated from that program in Toronto. So I applied for a job in nunuvant. How is it, if one goes up there to make they’re bread and comes back down to Toronto, is it good? Can you make good money and a good living up there? Also how’s the living there, rent, food, clothes ect…
    Appreciate it👍🏼

    • @mylesnmilestv
      @mylesnmilestv  2 роки тому +2

      Hello hmk! I can't fully speak on how it is being a social worker here as i am a teacher, however based on what I would assume an bits I've seen, I'll give my take.
      From a financial standpoint, Nunavut is great for allowing you to make more money than you would if you were back in Toronto. Remember that everything is 3x more expensive than back home so you need to budget accordingly in order to effectively save. Apart from finances, I will be honest that living here can be very tough at times. We do have 24hour day light, but we also have 22hour darkness in the winter months.so you won't see the sun at all. if you get seasonally depressed it will take a toll on you. Apart from the major towns like Iqaluit, there is usually 1 cell tower present. This does go down from time to time an can last days. So a heads up that you could literally be cut off from contacting people back home via phone an internet for days to a week at a time. I know that a social worker may have a tough time at first in any new town because, locals (understandably so) will typically not trust you with info. It will be hard to have people open up to you for a while (due to colonialism/ Residencial schooling experience) and culturally. The cold is tough at the beginning, I go through -50 to -60celsius weather yearly and it's tough at the beginning, very very tough.
      So In summary, yes there are a lot of great financial gains to working here, experience gains and satisfaction in helping people. but you need to make sure your ready for all the challenges of living here when coming from southern Canada!

    For someone from middle east is it possible to live there? Please be honest cuz I got opportunity to live there

    • @mylesnmilestv

      Hey boss, thank you for reaching out! Well for starters, anything is possible truly. However interms of living up in the Arctic, it can be very very hard to adjust. Remember that most of the year it is freezing cold. We are talking -40 Celsius to -65 Celsius. You mention that you are from the middle east and as a Toronto Native who is Caribbean myself and grew up with a lot of middle eastern people, I know that there are cultural foods that you and I both eat. You will not be able to access any of that up here at all. There is 1 grocery store an the variety is not vast. If your someone that likes to keep in contact with family back home, it can be challenging at times as there is usually only 1 cellphone tower in a town. So if it goes down (which it will) you are cut off from the rest of the world down south.
      Overall if you are moving from the Middle East straight into Canada and you are coming up here in the Arctic as your 1st stop, I would be a bit hesitant. Personally speaking. I would advise moving to the south (Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver ) first an getting a feel of things before venturing up here. Up here is very very different than anywhere else in the world, however it would be a massive change coming from somewhere in the middle east an coming straight here. (Culturally, mentally, and environmentally speaking)

    Bro does the salary of 93,000 per year cool there if i want to make some good savings ?
    And what about amenities and services ?😭

    • @mylesnmilestv
      @mylesnmilestv  2 роки тому +2

      It definitely allows you to save! $93k would be your base salary mostlikely but you would also get a Northern allowance between $15k-40k onto of your base salary depending where you live. Remove all thoughts of amenities and services from your mind, because there are none🤣
