You guys have it wrong. When a country grows powerful enough to exert influence (not just economic, military), the countries around are better off as a part of the “union of states”. History has shown us that several times. Simple, if the people of say Bhutan, one day feel that they share almost everything with India, and stand to benefit, why wouldn’t they want to join? That said, culturally, the entire region was India. With foreign influence, vis Islam, Christianity, communism etc, it will take sometime before India gains influence around the region. It is inevitable. US is a new-world power. It hasn’t become an empire yet, in the traditional sense. I guess, it will happen in our lifetime.

With expansion of resources, monopoly at Indian ocean, dilution of radicals (that's why not including Pak, Bangladesh & Maldives) & reduction of Chinese intervention, the situation will ameliorate.
