The fact you can add filter media into these is what made me buy them. I use a small and medium one in my 29 gallon goldfish tank. Not had any water quality issues

They do seem to be pretty handy sponge filters, although these past couple of weeks I have noticed a slight issue with the filter blocking on it's output... it might just be the particular one I have though.

Compared to the plain sponge filters, I find these to be superior by design. The space for media works great for something like a Bio-Home product. Then buying one of those sponge pads lets you change out the sponge on it. the 4 I have are filled with Bio-home. My tanks run clean with them. Bio-home is supposed to last 10ish years vs the 6 months the included media averages. some of the really cheap ones come with tiny Glass beads that feel to of been sanded to have a rough edge.

I've had one of these for about 4 months now. I've found the sponges load up rather quickly now. I really think they'd work better with coarser sponges. Just my 2 cents.

I am changing up my 20 gallon tank. I want to make it a planted tank, so I just changed the substrate. I have a few guppies in it at the moment. I have a HOB filter and I want to switch to this sponge filter. I currently have both filters running in the tank. I am afraid to just disconnect the HOB because it has all the biological good stuff in it. I figured if I keep the sponge filter in the tank it will get seeded from the other filter. How long do you I need to keep both filters in the tank?

      Hello,
I would recommend to leave both running for a month before you disconnect your HOB.
If you are a little concerned, there is no harm running them together for a little longer :)

Got a 14 gallon tank should I be fine with the small version or should I over kill and get the medium

How on earth do you attach the air pump! I can't find any videos that show that step 😭

Hi. Where can I buy the same sized ceramic media sized balls from?

If you can't find hygger's replacements online - Amazon have plenty of other options available from companies such as eheim :)

Jeremy is all over this one, and is right :) the only noise you will hear is if your air pump makes a noise. That is pure relaxation to me though :)
