géniale interprètation de Boulez les solistes sont fantastiques hautbois clarinette flute cor anglais et Pirerre Boulez d une parfaite précision comme d habitude bravo
Of the many version available to us now on UA-cam, none compares to this 2003 performance, because it features the exquisite playing of one of the principals of the Berlin Philharmonic, the great oboist Albrecht Meyer. Boulez is the perfect conductor here, restrained and tender when Ravel's writing requires it. This is deeply felt music, and is best played simply.
I have a clear memory from about 20 years ago. I was walking and listening to my Walkman during Winter, and this piece started. At that moment snowflakes started to fall. It was so perfect that I had to find a place to sit until the entire piece had played. ❤️
We can be reasonably confident that this masterful Boulez conducting would be approved by Ravel himself. Ravel composed the four tone poems to capture the memory and melancholy of losing four guy friends in the senseless trench warfare of WWI. Millions of young men all over Europe never returned home from that wasteful catastrophe.
lots of people talk about the superstar oboe player but all of the reed players are equally great. he just moves his head around more when he plays. very common in music - people impressed by dramatic presentation rather than content. don't mean to criticize - everything about this is great, most of all boulez's conducting and interpretation.
I remember one old beautiful memory. There was the tomb of my father’s ancestors on the top of small hill. Beside the tomb, there was a cherry tree. Japanese had a custom to have a party seeing cherry blossoms with their dead ancestors. I was two or three years old then. Cherry blossom petals were dancing in the wind. My relatives of about 15 persons brought hand-made lunch boxes there and enjoyed an impromptu singing or dancing. My brother and cousins played to roll down the slope of the hill. I was afraid that they would get hurt and kept an eye on them grasping my mother’s hand. The turning sounds of clarinet of “Le Tombeau de Couperin” reminds me of the scene.
@@Kiarinadia Thank you very much. Beautiful memories remain inside us. This prelude reminds me of that feeling of the scene…..And most of the relatives including my big brother are dead(in the grave). There is a wonder to coexist with them in this music for me.
The long reverberation of this cavernous hall is like the depths of your soul. At 15:58 hear how long it takes to clear the air before the next entrance! Dreamy...
Prelude and rigaudon too slow and too much detailed, we hear all the solos instead of an homogeneous orchestra. However middle section of rigaudon and 2 central pieces are very well rendered. Very interesting version indeed
This is a marvelous performance of this piece.
Absolute prime Albrecht Mayer. What a sound.
du jamais entendu ! virtuosité clarté précision beauté spiritualité tous les anges étaient là avec Boulez l ascète magnifique !!!!

I prefer the recording he did with Cleveland
It's like heaven.

Yes, magic! That's the joy of radio. You never know what's coming next, and it just might be perfect.
Yeah!
Nice a walkman!..
Nice experience !
La lumière semble être le thème de ce chef-d'œuvre.
For me this is pure magic and joy, Boulez was the perfect Ravel conductor.
So true
One of my 😍 favorites!
This music and performance is SO groovy!

This is renowned for being one of the most difficult orchestral works for oboe. That’s why.

I like your writing style.

Wonderful remembering. The dancing of the petals and the rollings of the kids, I can see it as a perfect scene for the Prelude.

@@keikaki0919 I would feel the same. Music is our compagnon, like if it was the presence of all our dead love one.
Meyer is playing his heart out in the Menuet! Love it.
Such a great piece, especially the menuet, so well performed and presented. Desert island.

@@DrGasne oui, trop pianistique.😰

Yes indeed. But may be not always a good thing.
@@Kiarinadia I know the effect can sound silly and exaggerated but I think it works well in this recording overall.
The menuet is pure magic here

Where is this please?
It's not in the Philarmonie, it's actually a church in Lisbon, Portugal, and the orchestra is the Berliner Philharmoniker
Thank you! It’s my favorite piece, and I appreciate all your input 😊
