The piano version has 6 parts, the last part played by the orchestra was Rigadoun, am I mistaken? The performances were breathtakingly great, especially at that tempo!
Thank you! You are quite right, @H5691j, the 6 movements are: Prélude, Fugue, Forlane, Rigaudon, Menuet and Toccata. For his orchestral version, created in 1919, Ravel omitted the two movements, Fugue and Toccata, which had a strong piano focus, and rearranged the order so that the Rigaudon was the effective finale. Of course, the orchestral version also opens with the prelude. I. Prelude 0:03 II. Forlane 3:30 III. Menuet 9:25 IV. Rigaudon 14:15 Stay tuned for more! #NDRElbphilharmonieOrchester #PaavoJaervi #Ravel
@@NDRKlassik Thank you for your response, very interesting how Ravel arranged the orchestral part. I love Ravel, he is a Hero and a Patriot having served France as an ambulance driver in WWI. He didn’t have to enlist and though advised by friends not to, his strong patriotism compelled him to do it anyway. No doubt he saw many horrors people shouldn’t have to see. I’ve always thought this was reflected in certain pieces especially LaValse. Thank you again, Chris
@@NDRKlassik The missing two movements were beautifully orchestrated by pianist/conductor/composer Zoltán Kocsis. It's been uploaded to UA-cam, and is definitely worth checking out.
Thanks to all musicians, and conductor...this IS one of my favorite work from Ravel, and that orchestration IS near perfection. I listen Zoltan Kocsis version hundred of Times , thinking it was the ultimate one...your version moves me a lot, and i can feel Ravel spirit in every single note . A masterpiece ! ❤
Thank you ever so much, @thierrychango7268! It's a pleasure! What a wonderful piece and it was a gresat concert. Stay tuned for more magical moments @ndrklassik.
Wonderfull! suite from Maurice Ravel based in the baroque French style, but beautifully orchestrated with the magic hand of Ravel . Really I've never heard it before until now , it makes me to remember "Pavane pour une infante défunte" ,Great interpretation of NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchester and Paavo Järvi , just perfect !.....
Ravel le magicien l ensorcelleur n a jamais été aussi bien servi que par cet orchestre merveilleux en finesse et virtuosité merci P Jarvi de ce moment de bonheur et bravo au Hautbois solo à tous les vents et cordes
This is the finest performance of le tombeau i've ever heard by a landslide. The orchestra actually captured the watercolor feeling of the solo piano original somehow, beyond fantastic
Wow this was awesome! I almost avoided it because the piano version is the n my top 3 favourites of all time, but it is incredible! Well done the oboeist!!! Thanks for posting. Steph
Hmmm, not sure what it is you are experiencing! Maybe that's just how it appears to your eyes? It is a rather fast pace they go here, but nothing has been altered in the video.
"Les petites notes , dans toute cette Suite, doivent être attaquées dir le temps" ( M.Ravel)...so "the grace notes in this whole Suite must be executed in the beat..". Sorry , but this and most of dynamic and articulations are completely ....unknown ...ignored ???? Repecting that , we could hear a very different , richer music
Opening miles too fast. It ends up sounding like an incoherent mush, but it is meant to be full of clarity and elegance. Luckily Jaarvi slows it down after realising he started it at an impossible pace. Fantastic piece of music
But it sounds like rush hour! A slower tempo and more nuance is needed, I think the players know this also, quality players driven on by manic conductor.
My goodness this was such a wonderful performance. And Ravel is such a genius of orchestration.
Jarvi is a wizard...
He and ravel go marvelously together.
Beautiful performance! The 1rst Oboe is excellent 👏👏👏👏
Thank you so much! And we absolutely agree on the oboe: Kudos to our wonderful solo oboist Kalev Kuljus! 🤩

This was a beautiful performance of the entire suite. Ravel was a master at orchestration and it was duplicated here perfectly.
Thank you! Much appreciated. :)

My Favourite Instruments; Are The Wind Instruments.
I cannot imagine a more beatiful piece of music to honor those officers mort pour la France
I shall always remember the maestro conducting the PCO. A recording unsurpassed in my opinion. Good to realise he is back from Japanese operations.
Take a bow, oboe! Oops, the camera missed it.
Nice oboe❤
wonderfull!
I love Ravel .his construction is steady. another French piano music are difficult to remember and forget easily😤
Excellent!
Thank you!
Great performance, but has the video speed been increased at all? idk everyone seems to be moving weirdly fast
Mhh, it certainly hasn't been increased by us - maybe it is something in your settings?
I don’t know, it sounds right but looks like everyone’s in a high frame rate silent film. My playback speed is normal

Thank you. We are very pleased that you like our recording conducted by Paavo Järvi so much. 😊
