it was about 1986 and took my mum to see art blakey at ronnie scotts in london his drumming was incredible i have never forgot his playing i love my rock but this was a different league
What a fantastic video. These are so important in documenting the knowledge and remembrances of this great generation of American artists, especially as they are by and large no longer with us to share.
Jay - thank you. I was an inexperienced 25-year old with an appreciation of jazz. I had started to work on a documentary on Art Blakey, which is what this interview was intended for. I got a "real job" and this project never came to life.
That would be great and is well-deserved! Please let me know if this happens - would love to visit it when we can travel again and I visit my daughter in Brooklyn. Good luck!
Congratulations! I just saw that a street has been named after Max! Coincidentally, I’ll be in Brooklyn this weekend to visit our daughter. I have to make a pilgrimage ❤
