Very useful video - thanks! I've just done this job on our 2008 Renault Trafic. You can make the job a bit quicker and easier by just loosening the front panel and rotating it 90 degrees to the driver's side (which saves you having to remove the bonnet catch), and the kinky pipe bottom junction is easy enough to remove and re-attach if you first remove the dipstick tube (1 X 8mm bolt, then it pulls out of the way).

Firstly, well done to Lucy. What a very capable young lady. Then, thank you for such a comprehensive guide. I wish someone would do the same for my Fiat Ducato x250 3 litre 2008 van/moho as although the EGR is on the top/rear top of the engine, the bolts are an absolute pig to get at. Would need Lucy's hands to get in there, lol. I'm considering putting in a blanking plate at the bottom of the "kinky pipe" effectively removing the EGR from the system. Well done, I see you fixed yours with new injectors. Not sure if you did them yourselves as they can be a nightmare to remove, due to being stuck in with corrosion. Cheers, Chris.
Ha, thanks. Lucy says thanks too! Most cars and vans these days seem like a pig to access. They’re not designed to be worked on. I guess so people take them to the dealer to fix? Anyway... we didn’t do the injectors ourselves. We took the van to a specialist with some specific kit for the job. As for your EGR blanking, if it doesn’t throw up error codes then do it. I did my old VW Transporter and it made a world of difference 👍
Loved watching this with the kids. Daughter commented on lack of hair clips and gloves at the start though! I can clean and replace the egr on my Avensis in less time than it takes to remove a radiator on the Trafic! Hope it doesn't need replacing much.
@@MechitBetter BTW: That plug near the Horn, I think that's for the Road Lights, I've got them on my 2013 Renault Trafic, great for annoying oncomming drivers in their small cars.
Nice work Lucy......I would just like to say for anyone who needs to do it that if the starter motor needs replacing you have to do this same procedure in order to get to it in the middle of engine , but you will also need to remove the radiator and move the AC rad out of the way on its long rubber hoses , i did mine last month and its a pain......cheers
Mine had a lack of power and i found it to be the big plastic boost pipe the big curly one (12:58) that connects to the egr at the front of the engine it was split around the clamp fixed my issue
My Vauxhall 2.0 Movano was in limp mode and had an ERG unit with some grey sludge in it - erg cooler had a tiny leak. Had to leave it cooler plugged into a garden hose for 30 mins to get a tiny drop of water in cooler. If buying a cooler for older type van, be very careful as there are 2 types - the water pipe on left of cooler can be in 2 positions - pointing to front of van and to rear. Get the correct one :)
Because of your video, Ive saved myself £400 (that is how much the garage quotes). Also, to make your life easier, when undo the bolts on tbe kinky pipe (catching on 😉), take out the oil dip stick pipe. Thanks a bunch.
Just took out and cleaned the EGR valve in my 2004 Renault Trafic. Didn't need to take the front off at all, so much easier and the injectors are well hidden from any water leaks too. You're right the 1.9 is an easier engine.
Fair play to you for getting stuck in iv just bought one of these vans thinking It was the 1.9 engine without knowing it was the 2.0 that needed a starter motor change 😢🤣
Outside temp sensor plug I believe for ambient air temperature, don’t hold me to that tho but either that or if you have one the other side possibly for fog lights.
Hi I had the same problem with my traffic, if I undid the water trap in the bottom of the fuel filter it would be ok for a while. In the end I traced it to a leaking fuel pipe it had a a pinhole leak in it just before the injector pump. I cut the pipe and rejoined it up with a bit of flexible fuel pipe and all is well. Hope this helps. Cheers john
Hi. Great video, very informative and well explained. Any chance you still have your van as i need some advice how to replace the drivers seat cushion please?
That wire you asked what's it for. It's a redundant wire bur that wiring loom is used on other engines which have intake air temperature sensors. Which it would otherwise plug in
@@MechitBetter How long did it take to get the front off roughly? I'm going to the clutch on mine and although it's not strictly necessary to take the front off I've read it makes the job easier.
Same problem here on my Nissan T31, changed pressure transducer, turbo sensor, air mass meter and the problem is still there, so I will change thr EGR valvw next. Another common problem, is that the particle filter is full...but this one is quite expensive...
Useful to see the layout, but it is not actually necessary to remove any of the front of the van to do this job! I managed to do it reasonably easily from above with a medium length 1/4" extension for the right hand lower 10mm (socket) bolt (feel it in there), and REMOVED THE 4x 8mm (socket) BOLTS THROUGH THE MOUNTING BRACKET FACE (as well as the two rear ones) to first separate the THROTTLE BODY from the EGR valve, this then allows easy access to the 10mm (socket) 'kinky' pipe top bolts to remove the EGR.
One other simple thing i did for the same problem was clean the Mass air flow sensor, its a lot better and the fuel economy has increased dramatically. easier than full strip down of the engine lol
What was the problem with the van? Mine is intermittently losing power every few seconds after a few miles. Feels like I'm abruptly taking my foot of the gas for a moment then putting it back on over and over again. Do you think a new egr valve will help
Just watching a 1 year old video so not sure if anyone answered your question about the loose plug. I would say it is the lower fog light connector. Some have fogs, some don't.
Not sure if you don't know or just didn't mention it but more than half of that unit you pulled of is the throttle body, which includes the Throttle Actuator Motor with integrated Throttle Position Sensor. A malfunctioning TPS could very well be the cause of your issues, or a vacuum boost leak, or a faulty MAF sensor, or one of the many other sensors on this van, the best thing you can do here is get an OBD2 scanner and look at the live data on all the relevant sensors and see if they are functioning within their normal range, otherwise you're just guessing.
Mine was running really rough, had a flat spot like it was missing from 1800 - 2400 revs. With a tester saying a injector was down it was occassionly trying to cutout when on motorway in 5th or 6th with red engine light momentarily coming on. After a few weeks this got worse and worse until it was properly cutting out . So I had a injector done that was showing up on tester which incidentally was no4 even though it had been no 3 showing up initially 4 weeks before. This stopped the cutting out, but the missing felt worse and after a couple of weeks it got really bad so plugged in tester and it was showing no 3 injector so went and had it done, but still I could feel the missing/ flat spot. Plugged in tester now it was showing no 2 but instead of having it done, I took it to mates garage where I stripped down parts to the egr and just took the grill off (not lights or front panel stuff) then my mate with a really thin angled ratchet managed to get in and remove throttle body, egr and pipe to manifold. The throttle body looked fine, but the egr was gunked up and the pipe was pretty much blocked, cleaned it all out put it back together and now it is running fine no missing/flatspot at all economy is back up, even though it says no 2 is down. If no 2 is like the other injectors it will probably be ok for weeks, so im going to drive it as long as I can and then get the remaining 2 done at the same time. So in conclusion I think Kierans missus has been unlucky and its one of the injectors that havent been done thats causing the cutting out, and also if you are doing egr with the right tools you can get in there just taking off front grill bumpers 5 bolts. Also the 1.9 can have egr blocked off not this 2.0 model, spoke to a mapper guy who reckons it can be turned down in software though. Apart from the injector issue these are good vans for the money half the price of VW's which can have the same egr or maf general issues.
Sounds like you had the same issue. Taking off and cleaning this EGR made no difference to the running. It ended up being one of the injectors that was faulty. We’d already had two replaced but a third must have gone. Just waiting for the fourth one to go to complete the set. Currently, the van is running well on its 3 new injectors. Taking the front end off was a bit involved for sure. I had heard that it’s possible without stripping the van down so much, but I guess I didn’t have the right tools because I couldn’t seem to do it. It was much easier with the front off with my big hands haha 👍
Hi sounds like my issue all 4 new injectors and crank sensor got it running better, but i have a flat spot at 2200 RPM and some times cuts out for a second on hill if at full throttle. Changed cam sensor no change to the flat spot, changed Mass airflow sensor as this can tell the ecu that the egr is not working due to the air flow not registering and egr not meeting the conditions. changed the glow plugs. next step clean fuel filter and book in to get the EGR deleted, its not much more in cost and will take away the EGR side of running problems. mines a M9R 780 so just a software delete to force shut the EGR and with a re-tune comes in at £200. will update after delete good luck guys
to be fair while your in there allowing for cost its worth doing the starter motor and the EGR cooler which will fail and seize and the egr valve the cooler is especially important as it can lead to catastrophic engine damage . my cooler seized and i replaced it so i put a new starter and egr valve on it at the same time.
my Laguna coupé GT has 150,000miles on the clock and suffers from occasional flat spots. I know this sticking valve is my culprit but I just can't bring myself to disassemble the front end of my Laguna to do it lol
i have a 2012 trafic 2.0 dci with injector fault and 3 garages i took her to there code readers cant pin point whats going on .. also dpf needs cleaning out.. had her 5 years she had brand new turbo over 2 years ago love driving her but worried about high repair costs now..
loved the way you showed how to remove the egr.ive got 2014 2.0 sport 115bhp trafic.i got the management light and spanner on sometime ago .its either on or off but still feels sluggish on take off regardless.im wondering if thats limp mode .i used to have the 1.9 dci 100 bhp and that also was on limp mode due to water ingress from scuttle panel which i think renault solved with the euro 5 and limp mode on that was awful.the van just doesnt seem to have the same acceleration as it used to .just wondering if youve came across thisbefore and do you think its egr problem i have . thank you
We’ve spent ages looking in to the Trafic/Vivaro problems. This van still doesn’t seem 100% to me. Doing research suggests it could be more or less anything from EGR to broken wiring harnesses to any number of faulty sensors. I hate to say it, but I think these dci models are just bad vans so unfortunately I can’t really point you in any particular direction other than a specialist with the relevant diagnosis software. It might save you a lot of time and hassle to have it looked it properly 🤷🏼♂️
on my dci1.9 i took that to arnold shark .they put it on a machine for 2 hours.charged me almost 200quid and still didnt know where the problem was.your total right these engines are a nitemare.im hoping it is the egr problem ive got.it feels it is as it all points to that .i really like the van and im willing to try n remedy it.just havent got the get up n go to do the work yet but looking at how much required to do to gain access to the egr i dont fancy asking a mech to do it as the price would be way out the roof!lol
We came to a similar conclusion with this one. Loads of owners reporting similar problems and nobody with a definite solution. People mostly just throw money at the problem and hope for the best as far as I can tell. Having said that, there are some common faults. The turbo pressure sensor and MAF sensor are known to be rubbish, and they can give these symptoms. Obviously EGR and EGR cooler problems. Vacuum pump problems can cause all kinds of misreadings on various sensors, so check that and as many vacuum pipes as you can find. They collapse internally or leak. The injectors on these are crap. We’ve had three replaced at great cost - which helped but I still don’t think it’s entirely 100%. It’s an ongoing battle 🤷🏼♂️
Uphill struggle ? Assuming clutch is OK, nothing on diag. scanner and not in limp mode --> check fuel rail pressure sensor voltages, clean intake air sensor, replace map sensor anyway, decoke engine via intake; harder stuff is check piston compression by removing injectors, track down vacuum leaks; and last resort; check for faulty injectors and solenoid fault in (injection fuel pump). If it's the rockers and tapets you'll hear the bag of nails. All other possibilities are more sig. more expensive.
Great video, I’ve had similar issues to the ones you mentioned at the end. Ive noticed from the comments that it was an injector issue, I’ve had 2 new injectors fitted and it has improved the running of the van but the problem persists! I was thinking of replacing the other 2 as the mechanic stated that these are not running as efficiently as the new ones. I was wondering if you replaced all the injectors on your van and if so is it all running okay now? Thanks
Cheers. Thanks for watching. We’ve replaced three injectors so far, with an improvement each time. There are still days where the van feels a bit sluggish, so perhaps the fourth one needs doing also. If you do end up replacing all four of yours, let us know if it fixes the issue!!
@@MechitBetter thanks for the response. It’s been a real head scratcher to try and find the fault, nothing comes up on a diagnostic test but I’ve been lucky as my mate has the same van so I’ve tried almost all the sensors thinking it must be one of them but still no luck. Like I said I had all the problems you had initially with the van feeling like it was misfiring almost and the stop and engine light coming on and sluggish especially uphill. It’s much better now but still not right and the misfire only happens now and again but still sluggish, I’ve checked everything and I’m convinced it has to be the other 2 injectors, just costly if it doesn’t cure the problem. If I do replace the other 2 I’ll let you know how I get on 👍.
Yes agreed. An expensive thing to change if it’s not the issue. Sounds like you’ve covered all the other bases if you’ve swapped the sensors for known working ones. The only other thing some people suggested is that the wiring loom rubs through due to poor design. That can cause similar problems apparently. As you say, it’s a head scratcher 🤔
Just to let you know I’ve had the final 2 injectors replaced and the van is running much better 👍, it’s cost another £500 but at least it’s running better now. Thanks for your help.
I have the 2.0 vivaro (same van) I have had all 4 injectors replaced in the last 12 months (2 at a time) both times it has started with a very gentle miss then in the space of 2 weeks gone to being un-drivable, have the injectors tested to see what ohm each one is producing, (I think anything below 1500 is not good, failing that, air-flow metre or, the egr may need replacing. P. S. I hate these vans with a passion but spent too much on mine to get rid of it now! 😔 good luck
Same here Neil. Lucy has spent too much time and money to get rid of it now. I don’t think she’d have another one, and I certainly wouldn’t buy one after all the hassle with this one. Seems all these faults are not uncommon, and not cheap or easy to work on. She’s already had two injectors done (£800), so hopefully the other two aren’t on their way out! Is yours running as it should now?
From the missing point of view yes, but it's down on power until the turbo spools up so I'm trying to decide between air-flow and egr! Have I mentioned I hate my van😂
I’d say you’ve found your problem then! You’re lucky haha. We tried the same on Lucy’s van and it made no difference. We’ve got a second hand genuine replacement coming to see if it helps. I did find a guy on eBay who claims to have a brand new genuine one for sale if you want his details. Either way, I understand that the aftermarket ones are rubbish 🤷🏻♂️
Uhm... sort of yeah. We had a third injector replaced and that more or less cured it. I’m still not convinced it’s 100% right but it’s plodding along again. Maybe the last injector needs doing. It’s an expensive business! I wouldn’t recommend the Trafic/Vivaro to anyone!
Unfortunately not. The vivaro is so hard to diagnose. Everything is computed by unreliable sensors, the injectors are prone to problems, and the wiring loom rubs through against the engine block. We spent months trying to diagnose this one at home. In the end we gave up and took it to a Vivaro specialist who did some real time checking of the engine data. It’s still not 100% perfect, but is much better than it was 🤷🏻♂️
I've a have experience of lost of power in my van I diagnosed it's a airflow or a egr If your experiencing a lost of power And only revs 2600rpm Fault code p0235 Look at your map sensor reading if reading 50 on live data you've a broken wire, use a 501 bulb (normal parking light bulb to test on the map sensor connection
Later 2.0 engines have an egr cooler fitted. Just found out to my cost that part of the butterfly valve in the cooler is prone to snapping off and destroying the turbo! The engine light came on along with 'injection fault' on the dash and it threw up a P0299 code. Loads of white smoke and the turbo pipe to the intercooler collapsed when the engine was revved. Got to the egr but not the turbo yet, will let you know what a b.....d that is when i get there. The moral of my story is if you have a van with the later m9r engine and you hear a tinny rattle at the back of the engine, don't ignore it coz it isn't just a heat shield rattling its a bit of metal bouncing off the turbo vanes, if you're luck you might be able to get it out before it destroys the turbo!!!
On this van? Many symptoms! It could be hesitant under acceleration, go in to limp mode, have power available intermittently, engine management lights on the dash, feel generally sluggish, be difficult to start......
I have just done ERG and cooler - same problem - won't rev over 3000rpm and sluggish. Took for a spin and downshifted from third to second to force revs higher - Injector fault light came on :( How do I find which one is stuffed? I'm hearing nightmare stories about getting therm out due to rust. Did you get yours out easily?
We read the same nightmare stories as you, and then shipped the job out to a specialist with some high powered pneumatic thing designed to get injectors out. He also plugged the van in to the correct diagnostics tool and read the live data (I think) to diagnose which injectors were at fault. Truthfully we’ll have a go at most things but we just didn’t have the heart to face the injector job on this van. Sometimes you’ve gotta know when to quit 🤷🏼♂️
at the opportunity, please change the egr cooler, the flap of the cooler tears off and is sucked in by the turbo and what can happen then I don't have to explain further 😫
cue all the internet mechanics who will spout bs about how removing the egr wil ruin the engine.... props for removing the green motoring infiltration device...
Cheers Lez. Sorry to disappoint you but it’s going back on. It only came off for cleaning. The van won’t run without it unless we have it remapped, and even then it’s dubious for the MOT. I agree with your sentiment though. EGR is a good idea on paper, and a terrible idea in the real world 🤷🏻♂️
Our temperature gauge works fine without this plugged in, so I’m not sure. I didn’t see the temp sensor though. I’ll have to have a look next time the bumper is off. Thanks for watching!

Please check your turbo will freewheel and is not seized first before throwing hundred or even thousands on miss-diagnostic! 👍
Ha, me too! Nightmare of a job... Really glad you and the kids enjoyed the video though. That’s great to hear 👍👍
@@MechitBetter BTW: That plug near the Horn, I think that's for the Road Lights, I've got them on my 2013 Renault Trafic, great for annoying oncomming drivers in their small cars.
Brilliant video well done to you both x
Nice work Lucy......I would just like to say for anyone who needs to do it that if the starter motor needs replacing you have to do this same procedure in order to get to it in the middle of engine , but you will also need to remove the radiator and move the AC rad out of the way on its long rubber hoses , i did mine last month and its a pain......cheers
Thanks. It is indeed a pain!
I managed to change starter without removing radiator 👍
Thank you for this tutorial
Mine had a lack of power and i found it to be the big plastic boost pipe the big curly one (12:58) that connects to the egr at the front of the engine it was split around the clamp fixed my issue
The plug dangling is for external temp gauge which when connected shows outside temp on display in cab
not 4 fog lights??
My Vauxhall 2.0 Movano was in limp mode and had an ERG unit with some grey sludge in it - erg cooler had a tiny leak. Had to leave it cooler plugged into a garden hose for 30 mins to get a tiny drop of water in cooler. If buying a cooler for older type van, be very careful as there are 2 types - the water pipe on left of cooler can be in 2 positions - pointing to front of van and to rear. Get the correct one :)
Lucy you are a star.
Cheers Derek 👍
Great video, starting this on a Renault Master 2010.. Even more difficult because the EGR is water cooled from the Rad
Yikes… Good luck! Thanks for watching 👍
Because of your video, Ive saved myself £400 (that is how much the garage quotes). Also, to make your life easier, when undo the bolts on tbe kinky pipe (catching on 😉), take out the oil dip stick pipe. Thanks a bunch.
Nice one! Glad to hear the video was useful and saved you a bunch. Thanks for the kinky pipe tip 🤣
Just took out and cleaned the EGR valve in my 2004 Renault Trafic. Didn't need to take the front off at all, so much easier and the injectors are well hidden from any water leaks too. You're right the 1.9 is an easier engine.
You can delete the egr on the 1.9 just by removing and refitting the wrong way around which blanks it off.
at a guess it will be for the fog lights that you don't have fitted
Cool. Thanks Michael 👍
Fog lights
Yes
That cable is for a temp sensor which is located on the back of the bumper.
Great video,keep them coming.
Cheers! Glad you liked it 👍👍
Fair play to you for getting stuck in iv just bought one of these vans thinking It was the 1.9 engine without knowing it was the 2.0 that needed a starter motor change 😢🤣
interested if that plug is for front fog lamps - if so easy to add retro ones
great video i have to say i bought a renult trafic 2.0 new in 07 its just give up now but it had done 567,000 lol
Thanks Nigel. Congrats on your rocket ship mileage. That’s amazing!
this video was a great help for me and gave me alot of peace of mind. thanks very much :)
Great tutorial, why did you replace the EGR valve? What symptoms were you having please
what they did .did not cure their problem
An then..... Some one knocks the tub of bolts and the van lives in the garage for the next 11years 😄.
Grate work guys your braver than me. Lol
Ha! Cheers Duncan. We’re more daft than brave 😁
The cable in front is for spotlights
Outside temp sensor plug I believe for ambient air temperature, don’t hold me to that tho but either that or if you have one the other side possibly for fog lights.
Cheers Alan. We’ve since determined that it’s for the fog lights 👍
Cheers john
Jes thats a BIG job to take on just to clean the EGR. Do fluids like Forte Diesel Turbo Cleaner & EGR Valve Treatment not work?
Hi. Great video, very informative and well explained. Any chance you still have your van as i need some advice how to replace the drivers seat cushion please?
That wire you asked what's it for. It's a redundant wire bur that wiring loom is used on other engines which have intake air temperature sensors. Which it would otherwise plug in
This was great, thanks.
Cheers 👍
@@MechitBetter How long did it take to get the front off roughly? I'm going to the clutch on mine and although it's not strictly necessary to take the front off I've read it makes the job easier.
She’s a keeper..
Same problem here on my Nissan T31, changed pressure transducer, turbo sensor, air mass meter and the problem is still there, so I will change thr EGR valvw next. Another common problem, is that the particle filter is full...but this one is quite expensive...
Cheers Jan. This van is fixed now. It turned out to be faulty injectors. It needed three replacing 😢
@@MechitBetter oh no! How did you find out that it were the injectors?! 😱
Very entertaining and useful thanks :-)
Useful to see the layout, but it is not actually necessary to remove any of the front of the van to do this job! I managed to do it reasonably easily from above with a medium length 1/4" extension for the right hand lower 10mm (socket) bolt (feel it in there), and REMOVED THE 4x 8mm (socket) BOLTS THROUGH THE MOUNTING BRACKET FACE (as well as the two rear ones) to first separate the THROTTLE BODY from the EGR valve, this then allows easy access to the 10mm (socket) 'kinky' pipe top bolts to remove the EGR.
plugs are for spot lights
The connector would provide power for front fog or spotlight on the lower bumper, if fitted
Thanks Emily 😀
@@MechitBetter yeah they are for front fogs. Im currently gona fit them to my vivaro
Did u find out what the problem was with the juddering no power up incline and dash lights flickering ???
One other simple thing i did for the same problem was clean the Mass air flow sensor, its a lot better and the fuel economy has increased dramatically. easier than full strip down of the engine lol
Thanks Alex. That was the first thing we tried but it didn’t help on this particular van 👍
Is it ok to clean the mass air flow sensor with carb cleaner? Mine is running fine but so easy to get to can only help it.
I think it’s not recommended. Carb cleaner leaves a residue. Electrical contact cleaner is what you need
Cheers! I think you’re right, it’s the fog light connector for an absent foglight 😁
Great video. Title: Lucy strips van in vest top!
thank you for showing the video.i reckon my egr valve needs cleaning.as youve said it looks a nitemare.
Changed cam sensor no change to the flat spot, changed Mass airflow sensor as this can tell the ecu that the egr is not working due to the air flow not registering and egr not meeting the conditions. changed the glow plugs. next step clean fuel filter and book in to get the EGR deleted, its not much more in cost and will take away the EGR side of running problems. mines a M9R 780 so just a software delete to force shut the EGR and with a re-tune comes in at £200. will update after delete good luck guys
by the sluge in the egr id say you had one or more faulty injectors xx
Cheers Rob. It was indeed the injectors 👍
to be fair while your in there allowing for cost its worth doing the starter motor and the EGR cooler which will fail and seize and the egr valve the cooler is especially important as it can lead to catastrophic engine damage . my cooler seized and i replaced it so i put a new starter and egr valve on it at the same time.
If you take the gearbox control unit off the plugs do you have to reprogram the gearbox control unit with a scanner
Absolutely no idea I’m afraid 🤷🏼♂️
That plug is for temp sensor that's on the front bumper
What symptoms advise that the egr needs cleaned ? Thanks
I think the cable with the plug is for fog lights
Great video, did you consider blanking/deleting the EGR?
I’m having same issues as you and think I’m going to blank it
my Laguna coupé GT has 150,000miles on the clock and suffers from occasional flat spots. I know this sticking valve is my culprit but I just can't bring myself to disassemble the front end of my Laguna to do it lol
Renault design strikes again 🤣
@@MechitBetter it sure does but it could be worse.....it could be a VW 🤢
Try replacing Suction control valve on injector pump. Or clean maf sensor. Mine is having same problem. It’s all trial and error.

@@MechitBetter I’m Glad it’s fixed. Hope it doesn’t give you too much more trouble.

Hello, I have a question: Is it possible to seal the EGR without removing it outside?
i have a 2012 trafic 2.0 dci with injector fault and 3 garages i took her to there code readers cant pin point whats going on .. also dpf needs cleaning out.. had her 5 years she had brand new turbo over 2 years ago love driving her but worried about high repair costs now..
Hi mate the plug on the front is for fog lights that integrate into the front bumper 👍
Thanks Peter. That’ll be it 👍
loved the way you showed how to remove the egr.ive got 2014 2.0 sport 115bhp trafic.i got the management light and spanner on sometime ago .its either on or off but still feels sluggish on take off regardless.im wondering if thats limp mode .i used to have the 1.9 dci 100 bhp and that also was on limp mode due to water ingress from scuttle panel which i think renault solved with the euro 5 and limp mode on that was awful.the van just doesnt seem to have the same acceleration as it used to .just wondering if youve came across thisbefore and do you think its egr problem i have . thank you
We’ve spent ages looking in to the Trafic/Vivaro problems.
It’s an ongoing battle 🤷🏼♂️
did you just clean your egr or replace it
Uhm.... from memory I think we cleaned the EGR and replaced the EGR cooler. I’ve slept since then though 😀
The wires are for fog lights
How long did it take to do?
If we weren’t filming, maybe 2-3 hours. It looks worse than it is 👍
Ok mate cheers 👍
Have you changed the throttle body? I had same headache. Turned out it was that.
Cheers Liam. It turned out to be a faulty injector in the end. It’s doing alright now 👍
Have a van giving trouble like hell not revving pass 2000 rpm clean egr still same problem next I'll check throttle body thanks much
How comes you didnt blank the egr out ?
No worries. Glad to hear you solved the mystery! Thanks for letting us know 👍👍
I have the 2.0 vivaro (same van) I have had all 4 injectors replaced in the last 12 months (2 at a time) both times it has started with a very gentle miss then in the space of 2 weeks gone to being un-drivable, have the injectors tested to see what ohm each one is producing, (I think anything below 1500 is not good, failing that, air-flow metre or, the egr may need replacing. P.
Just disconnected the air-flow metre and took it for a run, pulls like a train now👌
I’d say you’ve found your problem then!
I have had an aftermarket maf on for a good 6yr now with no problem
That cable is for fog light if you don't have those light on front bumper
Thanks guys great job.
Thanks! 👍
sounds like your turbo ? did you get it fixed?
Uhm... sort of yeah. We had a third injector replaced and that more or less cured it. I’m still not convinced it’s 100% right but it’s plodding along again. Maybe the last injector needs doing. It’s an expensive business! I wouldn’t recommend the Trafic/Vivaro to anyone!
@@MechitBetter I have 3 of them all done over 300.000 miles I love them .

@@MechitBetter oh glad you sorted it. My vivaro 2.0d 2012 is hesitating at 2000 revs when you come off the gas slightly. Any ideas?
Unfortunately not. The vivaro is so hard to diagnose. Everything is computed by unreliable sensors, the injectors are prone to problems, and the wiring loom rubs through against the engine block. We spent months trying to diagnose this one at home. In the end we gave up and took it to a Vivaro specialist who did some real time checking of the engine data. It’s still not 100% perfect, but is much better than it was 🤷🏻♂️
I've a have experience of lost of power in my van I diagnosed it's a airflow or a egr
If your experiencing a lost of power
And only revs 2600rpm
Fault code p0235
Look at your map sensor reading if reading 50 on live data you've a broken wire, use a 501 bulb (normal parking light bulb to test on the map sensor connection
Maf senser dirty or broke that makes it slow on hills .
Cheers! It turned out to be faulty injectors in this case 👍
Yikes! Sounds like a proper nightmare! Hope you get it sorted without too much hassle. Thanks for the warning though, and good luck!
Thanks. Great vid by the way, saved me loads of time hunting down all the bolts holding the front end on!
No worries. Glad it helped 👍👍
Sweet baby Jesus and the orphans, i never want to change a turbo on one of these ever again!!!!!
What are the symptom of a bad EGR valve?
On this van? Many symptoms! It could be hesitant under acceleration, go in to limp mode, have power available intermittently, engine management lights on the dash, feel generally sluggish, be difficult to start......
Check the vacuum pump it may need to be replaced
Mine turned out to be a failed turbo.

The plug isn't for the temperature sensor, it would be for fog lights.
Nice)!
at the opportunity, please change the egr cooler, the flap of the cooler tears off and is sucked in by the turbo and what can happen then I don't have to explain further 😫
Just had to change my turbo because of this, egr cooler is a pain to change but compared to the turbo it's easy!!!
cue all the internet mechanics who will spout bs about how removing the egr wil ruin the engine....
props for removing the green motoring infiltration device...
Cheers Lez. Sorry to disappoint you but it’s going back on. It only came off for cleaning. The van won’t run without it unless we have it remapped, and even then it’s dubious for the MOT. I agree with your sentiment though. EGR is a good idea on paper, and a terrible idea in the real world 🤷🏻♂️
Funny on my Laguna I can clean the egr and remount in about half hour 😂 still too much hastle I removed it completely and had a delete manifold made

It is. Thanks 👍
Its not for the fog lights it plugs into the temp sensor which is located behind the bumper.
Our temperature gauge works fine without this plugged in, so I’m not sure. I didn’t see the temp sensor though. I’ll have to have a look next time the bumper is off. Thanks for watching!
