Origin of the Barker Salute, as told to be by Brad:
I asked him about the timing between the salutes, the reply,
"The timing that people like so much comes from blowing that salute for my dad at D2r, we always talk on the phone, and I start the next “note” when I hear the last one stop in his phone. Over the years that just became ingrained in how I time it. As for the big salutes- when I first started I would only do that for my dad, or my wife and kids- or the owners. (I started doing it up here because my grandkids always watch) but then it got so big that I don’t dare not do it here even if they aren’t watching, or at the Soo, because people actually come to see that… so- that’s it in a nutshell"
Thanks for the info Brad!

Love that horn and the Barker. Thanks Paul for the info
You bet!
Magnificent performance to a mostly empty house. Maybe it was the weather that kept everyone away. Well, at least you showed up. Great job, dude.
Thanks! I could not miss their 1st visit to Duluth!

If Captain Newland is on vacation you won't hear that salute. He'll be on vacation soon so get your fix while you can!!
Very true, it also seems like the Barker is hitting Duluth less as of late.
@@PaulScinocca I follow Andrea up at the Soo and there's always a really big salute when the Barker goes by if Miss Edna is there.....Captain Newland is friends with her. So that's fun.
That was beautiful!
Interesting story...I had figured they just did it that way because it brought the donkeys home faster.
You're killing me! 🤣
Thanks for the background on the horn! The Barker’s horn is by far my favorite! What is the D2r?
I think detroit.
Gotcha! Thanks!
If you say D2r it sounds like DeTour, at the top of Lake Huron
@@jurysummons2194 I feel you are correct,thanks!!
With my best Arnold Schwarzenegger impersonation "the Barker Bark is back"...😎📣⚓
What is D2r?
DeTour Village - in Michigan, south of Sault Ste. Marie. That’s where Captain Newland grew up.
