      The aerobanana is a great racquet but is just boring all yellow and black letters. the designs of the early 2000 really unique from brand to brand, distintive in design but not trying to be striking with a plain string color. People might like the color of the banana but that doesn't make it a good design. Absolutely love the new one

    Has anyone here used the newest Pure Drive and this, the newest Aero?? I love the Pure Drive, the free power, the high launch angle, the soft feel, the spin potential... but...even though I put Solinco Hyper G in it which helped, it can let you down a little with control, on certain shots. Would this new Aero give me the power? Similar launch angle? The soft feel?But with a little more control???? Thanks.

    • @tenniswarehouse
      @tenniswarehouse  Рік тому

      @tomr1056,
      Yes! We are finding this updated Pure Aero to offer more control than previous versions with a softer feel, but still free power. If you are looking for even more control, I would suggest checking out the Pure Aero 98 as our playtest team really loves what that racquet has to offer and feels a bit more precise and controlled but you can still hit out and hit through opponents. Hope that makes sense! If you can demo them side by side that would be ideal and then go from there!

    The 2013 AeroPro Drive isn't one of the best racquets that Babolat manufactured. It is one of the best racquets EVER manufactured in the history of the sport. We still have five of them and they are every bit as good now as they were when we bought them in 2014. Babolat should never have withdrawn it from sale. It should have become the "Rafa" model in the same way Wilson created the RF97A as the "Federer" model. Babolat missed a huge opportunity to sell millions more of those units.
    Interesting that Babolat has returned to a very similar paintjob for the new Pure Aero. Trying to cash in on the fondness for the 2013 APD? Anyway great podcast Michelle. Thanks to you and TW.

    Hi TW, with a poly poly hybrid like rpm blast/rpm soft, do you recommend stringing the crosses with rpm soft a few pounds lighter than the mains. How would this setup effect the stringbed performance and feel?

    • @karmicselling4252
      @karmicselling4252 2 роки тому

      Doing that will improve the feel but reduce the life of the string bed significantly compared to keeping RPM Soft crosses at same tension. You would be better to use a full bed of RPM Blast and reduce the tension of the crosses by 2 to 4 lbs.

  • @stephenericwalsh
    @stephenericwalsh 2 роки тому

    Given that Rafa really uses the Aero Pro Drive and not the racquet that is branded with his name on it and given that this new aero is a shift back towards the tighter sting pattern of the APD then it’s kind of weird that the Rafa special edition is actually less like Rafa’s actual racquet than the new 2023 version. Maybe the spinnier 2019 version and the Rafa edition which is exactly the same except for the paint is designed to give mere mortals like us Rafa levels of spin even though the racquet he uses generates less spin on its own and more from his technique. Anyway it will be interesting to see what they do to the string pattern on the second gen Rafa when it finally comes out.

    If the 2013 version was the perfect combination of power and control, so why did they change it?

    • @karmicselling4252
      @karmicselling4252 2 роки тому

      MONEY! People like new things. Many people that owned perfectly good 2013 APDs put them away and purchased the first Pure Aero model to keep up with the Joneses. Also, a lot of people look at the pro players paintjobs and go out and purchase racquets that look the same because they believe they are getting the identical racquet as their favourite Pro uses.

    • @sjjapp
      @sjjapp 2 роки тому +1

      There is no universal perfect combination. That's part of it. There are pros swinging every gen of the aero in all likelihood.
      The other is business. As a business, they want to sell rackets. They have to convince people to get the newest one each time it releases. So they'll focus on what's changed and spin it as an 'upgrade' of sorts but things can go in circles. With other rackets, a good example might be lowering swing weight to 'improve acceleration and crank easier winners on the run' and then in the next gen up the swing weight to 'improve stability and plow and put away power' etc.
      So now with the aeros we've been with the high energy return/spin access models for quite a few years and we seem to be returning back to the older aero pro drive kind of model. And given time we'll likely end up back with the more powerful ones, and that will be used in marketing to sound better and sell rackets.
      Until there's an actual evolution in racket technology again, there's only so much that can be done. By increasing control and precision with this aero, they lower ease of spin access and energy return. Things like tighter string spacing help with shot security, but they affect something else negatively. It's like a game of sliders. Each gen of a racket changes the sliders but we don't usually get better or worse rackets. Most rackets are great now. It's just about personal preference and what works better for you. Hence no universal 'this is best', no matter what some of us want to believe.

    This step backward is Babolat's first step forward since the original version, which was the best racket I ever had in my hand. Since then the racket has been progressively dumbed-down to cater to a wider and wider range of skill levels, an until-now continued process of degrading control and feel. Not anything in specs, technology or other. The width remains the same. I'm still waiting for Babolat to put out a 98sq in racket with the same beam as the Pure Aero. Stop with the thinner VS. Alcaraz is the poster boy for the pure aero Vs. His spec is apparently that of an average stock pure aero Vs. So you're saying it should be heavier than what Alcaraz actually uses? Funny enough, that can already happen because of quality control.
      Someone who wants it heavier can customise it themselves. The real issue is for players who want a light spec like Alcaraz and many younger players today. A lighter option is actually needed in addition to current one.

      you have no idea of carbon LAYUP or what's inlayed in his racket
      CANYON bikes xray there carbon bike batches
      carbon can have bubbles and all sorts of issues
      funny how my 30YO mizuno is same as FEDERRER 365g funny how tennis hasn't changed
      can you run as fast as ALCARAZ ? his running speed counters heavy hitting tho he did lose to a good base line hitter
      comes down to hitting ball early and rushing him
      if you get sucked into his style of play he will out run you
      so its tactics
      are golf clubs better lighter or cricket bats all comes down to timing and style
      my point is light rackets take more effort AKA ALKARAZ runs like crazy
      this debate happens in all sports cycling HIGH CADENCE VS PUSHING BIG GEARS
      ski's have metal laminates

      @@Simon-Simon-Simon Its quite common for younger pros to use lighter rackets with lower swing weights these days. Why? Will be different reasons, but one reason can be wanting more time on the ball. Increasing swing speed is another. Alcaraz a good example of this. And no. Running speed is not making up for power. The guy is one the heaviest hitters on the planet.
      My point was merely that a lighter option has a higher priority than adding a heavier one. You can always go up in weight, but you can't remove stock weight. Advanced players, which lets be honest are the only players who should be playing with a heavier pure aero Vs, should know how to customise. And if they know how to customise, they can make a racket how they want, if that can be achieved by going up in spec. Of course, a heavier option still has its place if they make it. I'm merely saying they should first add a lighter one.
      I used Alcaraz as an example because if they make the only pure aero Vs available heavier than the one Alcaraz actually uses, a player that over the years is likely to sell Babolat a lot of rackets, that just would be weird.
      Ezone 98 and vcore 98 are pure aero Vs/98 competitors. Both of those Yonex offerings have 285g offerings. The ezone also has a tour option that's slightly heavier. Most sticks in this class of racket are 305g as well if you notice, the base option. The yonex model with these is a good one. And I would like to see a pure drive 98 and pure aero 98 do something similar (285 and 305 versions, possibly a tour as well that's say 315 or so).

      nice topic
      but it seems to me silly there are so many rackets options
      and all you have to customize seems silly
      at these prices then why are not rackets sold as modules then like bikes
      raw frame :)
      until we see a BABOLAT video discussing his specs we don't know

      @@Simon-Simon-Simon that's basically what the rackets are. Platforms. For advanced players and up, quality control isn't good enough, even with Yonex. You need to buy lighter than what you want to use and weight up to achieve consistency of spec, so that when strings go in a match etc you're using the same racket still when you pick up another racket.
      As your level increases you may also find it's beneficial to find your own spec. Not just use the spec that comes from a stock racket.
      Customisation can do many things with a racket. You can change its performance in a variety of ways to suit your own style of play.
      But as I said, this is what a racket is. A base. A platform.
      At very least a racket needs a light and standard option. Generally, this is 285g and either 300 or 305g. Some rackets will even have 270g etc option, and some have 310/315/320 etc options. In the case of a pure aero Vs/98, which is a very modern frame for modern styles of play, but ultimately still a 98, it really only needs a 285 and a 305g option. But if it became popular enough, an ezone model type could be good, with a 285g, a 305, and I think a 315g option.

    Babolat has the worst sweet spot feel of all rackets lel stop saying perfect feel

      I disagree. Especially on serve. If you really catch a ball perfect, it’s feels like the ball just explodes. I will say though, they have terrible off center feel and awful torsion.

      The 2013 APD has a wonderful feel if you hit the sweet spot. Every bit as good as many other racquets. However, off centre hits feel terrible unless the racquet is customised with some impact vibration dampening measures.
