My favorite of Madonna's songs. You can really feel the emotion in her voice and love the lyrics she made for the film with the Penn brothers and Christopher Walken AT CLOSE RANGE based on a true story.
Madonna and this song are criminally underrated and underappreciated. This should be in the top 10 of any list of best pop songs and top 50 of any list of best songs. And the fact that the vocals on the recording are her FIRST demo is just astonishing, especially when folks don't think she can really sing . NO ONE can convince the emotions of a song better than Madonna and no one can change my mind.

At some point in the mid 2000's she just released Hung Up, I thought how does she do it over & over. Madonna's ability to surprise hasn't ended to this day. Her catalogue of classic hits is endless!
The thing about Madonna’s singing is that it’s not about power and bombast (ala Adele etc) it’s about the pain you hear in the inflection of her delivery. Add to that those super cutting lyrics about dying with a screamingly silent secret your experience has taught you to never explicitly express (after all your truth could never compare to a man’s lies)
