After posting this video, another Shredder Gauntlet tip was brought to my attention. If you press L2+R2 at the exact moment you catch the shredder disc, your next throw will be fully drawn/charged up almost instantly! This is especially useful for lower rarity shredders that have a slower draw speed. Thank you Pantharian for pointing this out to me! EDIT: The Ironeater and Piercing Shredder Gauntlets are first available in Scalding Spear, not Barren Light or Plainsong. Also, you can get the Thunderbolt Shredder Gauntlet for free from a Chest on the Legacy's Landfall ship!
I hate to rain on the parade, but how many Damage ticks you get via that method? Because i only ever manage to get the impact (as in "hit") damage. Missing the ticks, especially for Lightning is kinda hurting. Maybe i do it wrong.
Although I was already a big fan of Shredders and advocate for them in the community before finding your channel, I am very impressed by your presentation here. Your advice is spot on, and your delivery is fantastic. You should be proud of this content. Very, very solid guide; much better than the “tips” videos from much larger gaming channels. A+, brother.
@@ArktixOfficial Just one question with Ancestor's Return - Purple Concentration Dmg and Agility Dmg beat the new Elite Shock too? With the new skill Machine Grapple Strike skill, getting enemies paralysed really helps a lot with dmg output, but would you say Ag Dmg and Conc. Dmg beat even the Elite Shock coils from Burning shore? I have been farming NG+ for a while now to get max coils and upgraded legendary gears, so haven't played on Very Hard for a while now.
I’m a fairly new player to Forbidden West and I’ve got to say that your guides are by far the best ones on UA-cam, I appreciate the in-depth information you provide and the time you take to explain why you recommend certain weapons over others
This is actually true, playing HFW was made easier by his guides. Especially, the part where we aren't spoiled whatsoever about how the story goes. HAHA
Hands down one of the best video game mechanic breakdown videos I’ve ever seen. There’s no fluff, literally everything mentioned is useful, and there aren’t any unanswered questions left at the end of the video. Plus, editing and audio quality are great. Thank you!
Hey thanks a lot! Glad you enjoyed this and found it high quality 😄 I do put a lot of work into making my videos, so I’m glad it’s appreciated. Thanks! 🙏
Wish I had this guide when I first started HFW… my introduction to the shredder gauntlets began during the slitherfang arena challenge of Very Hard… it did become a top 3 weapon for me after that
@VongolaBoss Yeah the game really doesn’t teach you much about Shredder Gauntlets. I’m glad you think my guide would be worthwhile having at the start of the game!
I have the same thing with Boltblaster (had to use it in Arena against Tideripper) and Spikethrower (haven't really used that one yet, lol). I wish there were some good videos on how to use these weapons efficiently. In ZD I used almost all weapons, it made natural sense in various situations. In FW I feel quite overwhelmed (even now after 75 % of the game done) with so many different weapons, ammo types, skills that I mainly stick to hunter bows and sharpshoot bows. I haven't used Ropecaster even once, Tripcaster only a few times, almost never Warrior bows...
@@pavellinhart547 I was overwhelmed too, until I realized all the options were more of a smorgasbord than a checklist - you're meant to take the ones that help your _personal_ style of play, but you can ignore the rest. That helped a lot for me! (Then watch helpful videos like these to flesh out advantages I missed.)
Was intrigued by shredder gauntlets when the game first came out, but never got the hang of them, so they quickly landed in the stash box. However after watching your guide, and better understanding the weapon, it is quickly becoming a favorite! TYVM for the tips and guidance.
I gave shredders a try twice in two separate playthroughs on both PS5 and PC, and I just could not get into them. However, after watching this and learning what I was doing wrong (namely not using elemental shredders and their insane tear damage!), I equipped a shredder midway through my NG+ UH playthrough and absolutely TORE through the Tideripper guarding POSEIDON, all while having an absolute blast! The extra mechanic to concentrate on catching the shredders really put me in a flow state, and I can't thank you enough for making this video.
Just came back for Burning Shores and realized I am as you described in the prologue hesitant with Shredders. This is a quality video! Excellent summary and explanation!! I will give Shredders another go :)
Thank you! This is the first video that explains its return pattern! I couldn’t tell if it was my movement, the machines movement or angle it hit the machine that determined it’s return path!
I’m so glad you posted this shredder guide since I had absolutely no idea what I was doing with it. I figured there must be some use for it but it never occurred to me that I needed to catch it repeatedly to gain value from it🤯
Great summary of all our research! As always, a great quility video. Well done! I hope this helps others fall in love with the shredder gauntlets. Even though the research was a lot of work, this video makes it all worth it! :) - Phosphoras
@Sem Bohle Thanks! Yes I hope it inspires people to use shredders more as well 😄 And thanks again for all the work you did that contributed to this! 🙏 I enjoy researching these things with you over on Discord!
Hi!!! I loved this video. I just discovered the shredder and decided to try it after watching your video. I had watched my husband use it and decided I didn't really want it... then this video changed my mind. He could never catch it so I assumed I would never be able to. You solved the whole issue!! Thank you. I ran and told him and had him go to you video on the tv and watch it. He loved it so much he has now joined your channel (which he should have done a long time ago. ha) I used the Ironcaster yesterday but when thru all the rebel camps so I could get the Thunderbolt, which I did and am now ready today to try it out. Haven't coiled it yet, so gotta re-ck your coil into. I love using the shredder and took down so many machines yesterday just with the Ironcaster... today's gonna be epic!! Thank you for all the great and easy to understand info for us seniors who are not so computer/game savy and making it fun for us too. :)
You are right at first I used it once and it seemed very weak. But a while after and trying again now is my favorite weapon. I did notice that the explosion does tear damage instead of destroying components which is a plus for me. I love removing components.
@Upside Down Nice! Yeah shredders aren't the easiest to get used to, but they're a lot of fun once you get the hang of them! I enjoy the tear damage mechanic to remove components as well 😄
So do tear arrows without the headache of trying to catch it while dodging incoming attacks from multiple sources. Drill spikes forever. A devastating weapon that can be used with other weapons to quickly reduce the largest enemy to dust.
Just by watching at this video I went from being totally clueless to managing my first explosion, not effortlessly but pretty easily. Top content as always 🙏🏼
First video of you that I watched. I started playing HFW about a month ago and initially thought that shredder gauntlets were really gimmicky. Now they're my weapon of choice for many heavyweight machines. Love stun-locking machines with the shock shredders. Your other videos have helped me as well and I regularly refer to them. Keep up the good work!
Bro at first i was like this weapon is ass cause i could never get the catching trick down, now that this video tells me how it actually works I'm been dominating machines with the weapon. THANK YOU SO MUCH
Great tip about moving in one direction (and consistently) for the catch! I’ve found I make a lot more catches with dodge rolls but could not, for the life of me, figure out how to stay on my feet and make two or more catches consistently. Also, multiple enemies severely complicates this weapon’s use. But that’s true of most combat in this game.
Thanks! Glad you found that helpful 😄 And yeah, it’s you go to use a shredder with multiple enemies at once for sure. Like you said though, that’s generally tough with any weapon really.
I really didnt want to watch guides before I beat the game but I'm glad I did, I had no clue how this weapon worked or how to use it properly and now I do which will open up more strats n stuff and probably make for a funner experience. Thanks =D
I only started HFW a week ago (no time) and wasn't blown away by it, or even really enjoying it. To me, It felt a bit like an add on to the original, and I was about to skip playing it. I had skipped the shredder until I watched your vid, and tried it. Now I am loving the game again, so, thanks.
@@ArktixOfficial already used the "circle slowly" technique, and wow, makes a huge difference! Thank you! And keep making these! There's a Tremortusk/Scorcher site, and I was able to make a tiny pile of Shock Cannons from all the Tremortusks I took out, and used the Plasma Cannons on the Scorchers, back and forth! Hilarity ensued! Minor comment: I'm an overworked single parent, and videos like this allow me to skip the frustration, and just play and enjoy the game. They _actually_ make my life a little bit better. So. Thank you. ❤️
Hundreds of hours played and only after watching this video have I been able to fully appreciate the shredder gauntlet... I was one of the people who thought it was a weak weapon... how wrong I was!! THANK YOU! Going to watch the Warrior Bow masterclass next because it's another one I rarely use!
This was very helpful. I've recently come back to the game after being occupied with Elden Ring for about 1100 hours worth of play over the past several months. I tend to really enjoy the non-traditional types of weapons and gear and will probably end up using this quite a bit after I get some practice using it similar to the Dreadbound in Returnal.
Ever since watching this video I've discovered how freaking powerful shredders are..they are deceitful..and do a ton more damage than their numbers say because of the grinding they do. I totally slept on them forever. This video is gold. Thank you
Wow the research put into this video is insane! Thanks for all the hard work you & everyone at Discord put into getting the numbers down. I'm definitely going to go back in with NG+ with Shredders. I already liked them & learned how to use them properly with the "The Rematch" fight in the Arena. But now thanks to this video, I know the definitive coils to apply to them & the supremacy of the elemental Shredders. Absolutely perfect video, thanks so much!!
@Sonny Thanks! Actually, "Rematch" was my first real impetus to learn shredders too! I've definitely come a long way with them since then though and learned how useful they can be in the wilds. I hope you like using shredders on your NG+ playthrough. Hopefully we get NG+ soon!
Thanks for all of your amazing guides. Honestly, this one in particular broke the game for me. Shredder Gauntlet are so OP compare to every other weapons once you get used to it. I don't even got the legendary one yet, just the fully upgraded Thunderbolt Shredder Gauntlet, and it's already trivialize every large machine hunt for me. Insane damage, super ammo efficient and disabling the machine for half of the fight.
Awesome! Yeah I totally agree shredders are very strong once you know how to use them probably. They have a learning curve, but it’s rewarding! Wait until you get your Ancestor’s Return!
The tips for catching it were really helpful! I have a thing for thrown weapons/boomerangs, so I was intrigued by the Shredder from the beginning. Now I’m definitely going to put them to good use!
Nice that people picked up shredders and gave them a chance after this video, I slept on them until about halfway through the game then decided "man this concept is really cool, I gotta get better at this!" Rolling into my catches was how I got it down pat, shredder gauntlets, and spike throwers were my favorite weapons, I really loved the drill spike thrower, something about watching the spike impact and actually drill into the machine was just too cool, an if you hit them in a thin enough spot the spike actually emerges on the other side as it drills in.
fun fact of the day!, i just picked up the game and i got the first (Crappy) shredder and as soon as i saw the gauntlet shape and the projectile returning i immediately understood the assignment because they are a carbon copy of a sport that was born in my country. it's called "Pelota vasca" ("vasque ball" and the original name: "euskal pilota") where you get a gaunlet (tho there are crazy people all around the world and they play with the bare fist) that has the EXACT same shape as the gauntlet and you throw a (super hard) ball into a wall and someone else picks it up again while in the air to again throw it in the wall until someone gets a point (failing the catch or failing to properly hit the wall). quite fun sport.
Woohoo a long awaited video! This was super good. Honestly, Phos is a lifesaver with all that research XD Also another trick with shredders, they are really good for rebels, oddly enough. When fighting rebels, don’t use the fourth throw, just keep on resetting your throws, methodically ripping the enemies apart
I watched this a couple of months ago and was very intrigued by these cool weapons. Needless to say I'm using them more each time I play and having a blast. I try not to use them when I'm farming upgrades as I am not completely confident with them, YET. But now I've got all legendary weapons from my first and new game play through fully upgraded, I can go to town on the big guys without worrying about damaging parts that I previously needed. Great vid, very informative and detailed but easy to understand.👍
This is actually my biggest concern. I just finished Zero Dawn last week, now playing Forbidden West, and Im pretty much stuck with Zero Dawn stuff. Your vids are helping ALOT
Excellent video! Definitely going to help me in the arena! One pro tip (I discovered from the official strategy guide): "It is also possible to perform a 'perfect catch' with a returning Shredder, by holding L2 + R2 precisely at the moment when the Shredder is caught, which will cause it to instantly become fully charged for the next shot." Very useful when "Shredder Juggling " (when throwing a second Shredder before the first one has returned) as this potentially allows fully charged shredders to be thrown without waiting to spin up and fully charge it!
Ok so I tested this a bit just now and I think it does actually work! Seems like you can skip the spinning “charge up” animation on the crosshair/reticle and just throw right away. It does require pretty precise timing to pull off, but it seems to work. That being said, it’s a very small difference on something like the Ancestor’s Return that already has a very fast draw/charge speed. Thanks for sharing this Pantharian! My order of the guide book was delayed yet again 😭 Now until the middle of June 🙄
3 best things about Shredders, 1 you can clip other machines as the shredder returns ,2 shock shredders in water ,amazing, and 3 your videos are amazing - The Boss of the Forbidden West !
Thank you for compiling all of this information. I haven’t used the shredder because It was so frustrating and didn’t seem very powerful. But now I’m trying to farm certain parts later in the game and keep ruining them. I’m definitely going to work on learning these techniques. Thanks again. BTW, vid convinced me to follow your channel. Hopefully you’ll see it grow even more.
@Phillip Hale I’m glad you found this helpful! Shredders (especially shock shredders) are very useful for endgame farming! And thank you for your sub! I appreciate it! 🙏😄
@@ArktixOfficial I will say that they seem a bit too random with the receiving. And except for elemental ammo they don't seem worth the hassle. And I really don't want to do the relic ruins again for PS5. I will play around with the new game plus one however.
@@suemeade2471 Fair enough. I guarantee if you can get the hang of them, the receiving is not random. They do come back to you if you keep moving in one direction. But yeah, giving the NG+ one a try is a good idea so you don't need to do the relic ruins again, at least at first.
Really enjoy all your master class stuff on weapons and machine types. It has made me enjoy the game more. At times I had considered lowing the difficulty as I have such a hard time with stuff like Slaughterspines and Dreadwings, but your videos have taught me how to hunt them and made me actually want to turn UP the difficulty and am looking forward to an eventual NG+ Ultra Hard playthrough.
I love using the shredder gun it's so much more fun than the bow or bolt blaster and it doesn't take long to get used to using it properly, this is a great video and perfect on how to help people use the shredder, bro you are so good at explaining then actually showing in battle you are one of very few people that are so good at what you do to help people you go above and beyond, props to you for coming so far so quickly, I knew you could do this so Arktix much Respect from Liverpool 😎🙏☀️🇬🇧 oh yeah you have the ability jump down to perfection and thanks for that tip I use it a lot plus iam going to add the concentration coil on my shredder so nice one
@Football Asylum As always you are so kind 😊 I’m glad you think this video was well done and will help people. This one in particular took me a long time to make. At one point last week I started over from scratch 😮💨 Anyway, thank you for your continued support! 😄🙏
I got my first shredder through that one quest. I hated it so much, because I didn't know how to use it, that I just didn't use it for that fight. They don't give you any tips on how to use it. It really turned me off the shredder. After this video I want to actually give a decent go. Thanks for the high quality vid.
Thank you @Arktix for this video. I knew shredder gauntlets would be powerful, but like most players I struggled catching those suckers, especially while dodging enemies left and right. Hopefully with the information you presented so well in this video I can beat the slitherfang arena challenge in under five minutes.
I'm up to Singularity in Forbidden West on Ultra Hard. I have mostly ignored Shredders since they confused me, and only figured out one of the mechanics when I did a particular quest in Hidden Ember - the whole catching thing. I didn't know how important it was to catch them, though, aside from "get better to save ammo." This video made me pick them up again. They're kind of fun to use. And even the rare weapon from the side quest was good enough to get me through Cauldron Kappa... with a lot of painful practice, of course, but it got me through. Thanks for making these videos, man, the Horizon games don't seem to get too much coverage... ever.
This is such a well-made video. The research, the footage, the explanations- are all top notch. Thank you so much. Will now check out your other stuff and subscribe.
A year later and I'm doing another playthrough of the game. This time at the highest difficulty. Feel like I'm hitting a wall at the arena with the slitherfang fight. I've never really used the shredder gauntlets for the reasons you mentioned at the beginning, but after reading some things and watching this video it seems like the shredder is the way to go on that fight. Great video man.
I'm starting to finally get used to using shredder gauntlets but am still having troubles. Hopefully this vid helps thanks. Hopefully you can do a video on killing Fire and Frostclaws without destroying the sac webbing because trying to get all those is going to be the death of me.
@Jakob Synn Yes! I’ll definitely be doing videos on Fire and Frostclaws! That sac webbing is tough! To give you a tip now though, I recommend freezing fireclaws and then using a boltblaster on their bodies/canisters to deal damage. For frost claws, explode a shoulder sac and do the same.
That's a great idea. I struggle with those a lot. I find that on fireclaws, using purgewater state first helps me because I hate the fire attacks. So I am less stressed and better at aiming at the butt or legs.
Just tried my ancestors' return shredder for the first time because of this video, and I never noticed how OP shredder gauntlets are, It's really fun to use too, thank you for this video!
The purple Concentration 15% damage coil can be found with The mission with Kotallo against the Scorcher. You have to harvest the Scorcher before the cut scene or it is gone forever. You can do the mission after Ted Faro main quest.
Awesome explanation! The one thing you could have mentioned is that Shredder Gauntlets work well only in open-area fights with 1 or 2 machines. Any more and you are at a higher risk of not catching all the throws due to getting bombarded with attacks (Not impossible, but very difficult). I tried the green Shredder Gauntlet from the Daunt and didn't like it at all. Later, I got the Ironeater Shredder Gauntlet to complete one of the Sheerside Hunting Ground challenges. I really loved it then and started using it more. My moment of realization of how powerful Shredder Gauntlets are came when I decided to take on a caravan/patrol of a Behemoth, a Ravager and an Apex Ravager near the Stillsands. I used the Acid Shredder ammo from the Ironeater. It took me less than a minute to strip all the machines of parts and armor while they collapsed. It felt like a really badass moment! Shredder Gauntles are quickly becoming one of my favorite weapons from the new ones in HFW.
@Winston Jones Thanks! Glad you hear you’re using your AR! I’ll definitely be doing a Slaughterspine vid! Slitherfang s are up next for my machine hunting series, but I think Slaughterspines will be after that!
I may have already beaten the game, but your tips are absolutely fantastic. I was already a big fan of shredders when I figured out how they worked, but this video definitely explained it better than I could’ve.
The first time I used Shredder Gauntlet was in the side mission "Boom or Bust" when you got the "Boomer's Shredder Gauntlet" and suppose to Kill a Shellsnapper on very hard. He destroyed me many times till I stopped and used other wepons. Thank you for allowing me to retry using this wepon :)
You forgot to show all the times, some machine attack hit and staggers/stuns you at the last moment, and your shredders fly past you ;). Again, you did a great job with the video with your quality marks (beginner to expert, early to late game, stats, real demonstrations). Some clarification i would like to know: 1. The agility damage boost is given upon launch of the projectile ? 2. Damage over Time coils, are they really that good? Some Milk Maiden Calculation (does that term exist in english?): Normal = 100 33 33 33 = 199 DoT 50% = 100 50 50 50 = 250 24% imp. = 124 41 41 41 = 248 Probably i did something wrong then you and your team. 3. First Lightning Tick equals first hit, still a thing?
@Paris Teta You are brutal! ;) Actually though, what do you mean about the times being forgotten? Are the videos chapters not showing up for you? These are good questions! 1. Yes, agility and concentration coils apply their effect upon launch of the projectile. 2. You’re calculation looks right (we do not have that expression in English, but I like it! The equivalent expression would be “a back of the napkin calculation”). DoT coils aren’t amazing, but they’re garunteed to give you a boost every through. Impact would too, but as your calculation shows they’re worse. Situational coils like long range and high ground can be stronger, but only trigger under specific conditions. Critical hit chance could also be a good idea. The Shredder base crit multiplier is 1.5. 3. Yes! The first tick on the shock shredders is the same as the impact damage hit for some reason. This is another weird anomaly!
@@ArktixOfficial 2. I mean, you showed us the perfect play and not the times, when it went wrong, like you want the catch a shredder for the third time, and then the tremortusk rockets stuns you, and you missed it. Regarding the coils: The DoT coils needs all three ticks, and this in unreliable, while the impact coils are always active. Thought that maybe, there is more to it then the napkin calculation shows (couldn´t remember the napkin calculation term, thank you).
@Paris Teta Ah I see. Well thanks because I nailed it on the first try ;) (not at all lol) And good point on the DoT coils. Also, impact coils boost the initial hit, which is more of the damage, so maybe they’re better for that reason too. I’ll have to consider this for my weapon coiling video 🤔 Thanks for bringing it up!
@Paris Teta Expansion on question 2. calculations: You are absolutely right! Damage is similar with both coils. Good thinking :) For coil dilemma: There exists a third option. Namely concentration of agility coils (same category as they work the same) These give 20% conc.: 120 40 40 40 -> 240 Overall less damage BUT on the contrary to impact and DoT coils, concentration/agility boosts damage, tear and elemental buildup for all throws including the last blast. In my research I discovered that impact and DoT coils don't affect the last blast of shredder gauntlets, so concentration or agility coils are the best choice (i.m.o) (also 15% agility exists, but no 15% concentration, sadly) If you'd like, you could join the discord and we could talk more in depth about the shredders. We'd love to have you
@Paris Teta I definitely second Sem Bohle's (Phosphoras) invitation to Discord if that's something you're interested in. Of course, it's open it anyone who wants to join, but we're always happy to have individuals like yourself who like to think about and discuss the game 🙂 No pressure or anything, but the Discord link is always in my video descriptions of you want to come check it out 😄
Glad to know it’s that easy to catch them. I thought Aloy had to be in a certain position with me holding down L2 to catch them. So I gave up using them out of frustration. I’ll give them another shot.
I tend to gravitate towards blast slings and bows, using them almost exclusively on my first playthrough. On my second playthrough I tried to use every weapon and coil type to see if i missed something good, and i couldn't believe i slept on shredder gauntlets and spike throwers. spike throwers with drill spikes against frozen enemies get massive damage in a short time as well as shredders' damage over time against frozen enemies.
Totally! That’s great you tried out some different stuff on another playthrough. It’s definitely very easy to just keep doing what we’ve always done. Glad you ended up liking spike throwers and shredders!
I would say something based on critical hits since the bow has huge buffs on those. I also like to take a draw speed coil since I find the bow to be pretty slow at shooting consecutive arrows. Finally a coil which increases damage over shocked ennemy could be a very nice combo. How do you feel about my suggestions ?
Emeka look in he's other videos I think it's about 3 videos back and he explains all the coils wether for armour or bows and other weapons, it's a great video, Arktix has a excellent way of explaining in simple ways but very effective, so yeah my friend just check out he's other videos it's all there 😎🙏😁🇬🇧
@Emema Nweze Good question! I’ll be doing a video on the best ways to could each weapon soon, so keep an eye out for a more in depth explanation. In short, it really depends how you like to use your DSS. Personally, I use it primarily to tear off components. Other weapons, like a boltblaster, are what I use for dealing raw damage, so on my DSS I prioritize component tear, agility, concentration, and tear. In general for any weapon, I find it’s a good idea to look at the perks and see which ones you use the most. Then add coils that boost those perks further. I hope that helps!
@Artur Magomedov Good question! Yeah tear are only 12% while agility are 15%. I think the regular tear coils exist because they are much easier to use compared to agility. You don’t need to do anything special like slide or jump for tear coils to work.
I started using the Shredder Gauntlet after watching this video and I must say I really enjoy it! It is my favourite weapon so far! Love your videos, btw :-)
I had already started to enjoy shredders about halfway through the game, but this video is incredible and I'm going to make this one of my primary weapons.
Thank you so much for your guides! I never thought that I could actually use it properly. But thanks to your video I now can! And I finished rematch now because of it! Also thanks to your other video. So thank you, thank you, thank you!
Your videos are amazing, man! Makes the game so much more enjoyable when you actually know what you're doing as opposed to just spamming R1 or R2 and hoping for the best. Thank you for all the time and effort you put into these and helping out the Horizon community!
I’ve been experimenting with machine master mounted combat and it feels like shredders were made for this. Easy to keep your distance, quickly circling the enemy and the shredder tracks back to you effortlessly while on a mount. As long as you have some open terrain you don’t get stuck on anyway 😁
Earlier today I met the final boss on Ultra Hard and the only acid weapon I had was Ancestor’s Return. Never used Shredder Gauntlet before but I managed to defeat the final boss with it. Thx for the guide!
Omg! Where has this weapon been all my life! Tried to use it against the Shellsnapper when the two sisters gave it to me to test it. I dodged left and the returning disc went right. Thanks to this video, i'm gonna start using this weapon 24/7
I played all the way up until the sunwing override without using the shredder gauntlets and came here looking to see if it was a mistake. Thank you so much for this. I had the ancestors return gauntlet just sitting in my inventory. So happy to learn your techniques and take advantage of a weapon I once thought was useless. Can I like this video twice?? :)
Loved it. Greetings from Nepal 🇳🇵 . Bought PS5 a fortnight back, after watching full length videos horizon zero dawn and unchartered 4 and Last of Us on youtube. The first game i downloaded is Forbidden west and playing it, hunt a lot and reached level 40ish, but hadn't tried shredder's, I'll do so now.
This was super helpful! I tried the shredder once and thought, 'Well, this is stupid,' and never tried it again. But seeing someone who knows what they're doing with it helped a immensely and I immediately tried again. I just went straight into combat with it, no practice. And while I can see it will take me a while to integrate agility moves with the weapon, I can already see the power of it. That 4th acid strike puts a serious hurting on the beasts!
This was a great breakdown on shredders. I've used them in the past but really didn't spend too much time on learning them. Think I will now though because of the tear damage I need parts and have been having issues getting them for upgrades. Thanks for the video.
Because of this guide I just forget to use other powerful weapon because how resources efficient it is. Thanks for the tips man you just got yourself a new subscriber ❤❤
Thanks for this video. It gave me the will to try shredder gauntlet again. One thing: there are two Clawstrider dummy in Fenrise Rebel camp. More open than chainscrape, but obviously you need to liberate the place first.
Awesome 😄 I hope the tips helped! Thanks for pointing out those Clawstrider dummies in Fenrise! Unfortunately, when I went there they were only decorative and would not allow the shredders to return 😕 Would have been a great spot if they worked like the other dummies.
Wow.....that was insane! I wasn't really messing with the shredder because i had no clue how it worked. Amazing tutorial!!! I'm gonna try to master this weapon. THANKS!
Hadn’t used it before and decided to give this a chance and oh boy. My game loaded near a Fireclaw in a dense jungle forrest, the one just above the Chi cauldron. I figured what the heck and decided to take it on. Catching it went good. And I shredded that thing in minutes. No testing practicing, trial by combat! Then took down a Behemoth and Tide ripper. That thing has no mercy. Holy moly that thing is good.
Another weapon I think people sleep on is Shieldwires. Using them with the Quick Wire Skill can help you avoid any ranged attack with the right timing.
I'm not normally big on commenting etc, bit I just had to say a big thanks for this video. I gave up on shredders about 30 seconds after Boomer gave me my first one - thought the throw and catch wasn't for me. This made me go back and try again and I will now spend a few hours upgrading the Ancestor's Return. Liked and subscribed. Great content.
This was such a big help thank you!!! I’ve been avoiding the sheer side hunting grounds challenge for the majority of the game, and I’m a 100 percenter so it was bothering me that I just couldn’t get the technique down
So helpful! I love Forbidden West and the enhanced combat mechanics - but it’s also a lot to remember after Zero Dawn’s relative simplicity. I loved the shredder right away, but now I can master it! Thank you!
@@ArktixOfficial I went full ham with the shredder gauntlet last night, and had a blast. Even getting pretty good at catching them. I had no idea they had so much range until I saw your video. They are fast becoming my go-to weapon. Thank you!
I love the shredder gauntlet. As I was playing I was starting to get deja vu vibes and feeling like the game was starting to feel too much like its prequel and then this new weapon type rly changed up how I played the game, and I rly liked that a lot
Nooooooow I get it! I was def one of those 'huh?' people on my first go with these, but your vid inspired me to go grab Ancestors Return. Skipped a couple of your learning steps, instead practiced on an Apex Rockbreaker with nothing but acid discs. Got almost no explosions in (because I'm rubbish at not getting knocked around), but still took him down in a few minutes, first attempt. Nice! Thanks for the great work :)
Paris, I will test again and let you know if I find anything different, but I'm pretty sure I still get DoT ticks when I do this.
That's not how it goes on Ultra Hard, And your video harms players of this level, All for views.

Hey thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed this and I appreciate your kind words 😄
I absolutely agree. The quality of this video is superb. Clear, concise information. Listed the sources. Timestamps. The bar has been set. Subbed!
Hands down best horizon channel on UA-cam. Not even close either
I’m a fairly new player to Forbidden West and I’ve got to say that your guides are by far the best ones on UA-cam, I appreciate the in-depth information you provide and the time you take to explain why you recommend certain weapons over others
Hey thanks! 🙏🏼 Glad you're finding my content helpful 😁 I hope you're enjoying the game!
New Game +!!!!!
Wrong
Was intrigued by shredder gauntlets when the game first came out, but never got the hang of them, so they quickly landed in the stash box. However after watching your guide, and better understanding the weapon, it is quickly becoming a favorite! TYVM for the tips and guidance.
Awesome! Glad this helped you learn how to use and love shredders 😄
Hey thanks! I hope you found these tips helpful!
Thank you! This is the first video that explains its return pattern!
I couldn’t tell if it was my movement, the machines movement or angle it hit the machine that determined it’s return path!
You’re very welcome! I’m glad I could clear that up for you!
I’m so glad you posted this shredder guide since I had absolutely no idea what I was doing with it. I figured there must be some use for it but it never occurred to me that I needed to catch it repeatedly to gain value from it🤯
Thanks! Glad you found this helpful!
Great summary of all our research! As always, a great quility video. Well done! I hope this helps others fall in love with the shredder gauntlets. Even though the research was a lot of work, this video makes it all worth it! :)

Hi! Glad you and your husband are liking shredders and found this video helpful! They’re my favorite weapon 😄
Fantastic! Nice work 👍 I always love hearing about a new shredder convert 😄
Hey thanks! Glad to hear you’re finding my content helpful 😄 And have become a shredder convert! 😁
Thank you for this. This is now my go to weapon. I've added two coils to my blast forge that deal extra damage to shocked enemies. Great 1,2 punch
Awesome! That's a cool combo with you're blast forge as well! I'll have to give that a try.
Most helpful Shredder Gauntlet how to vid I have found on youtube! Not only how to use them but also best coils to use!!
Awesome Viper! Glad you found this helpful!
Bro at first i was like this weapon is ass cause i could never get the catching trick down, now that this video tells me how it actually works I'm been dominating machines with the weapon. THANK YOU SO MUCH
Haha awesome! Glad you found this helpful 😁
Thanks =D
I understand that hesitation, that´s why i love Arktix´s video, they are spoiler free most of time and ample of warning if there is something.
thank you! I have been avoiding shredder for 70 hrs and finally see their value
Awesome! Glad to hear that 😄
I only started HFW a week ago (no time) and wasn't blown away by it, or even really enjoying it. To me, It felt a bit like an add on to the original, and I was about to skip playing it. I had skipped the shredder until I watched your vid, and tried it. Now I am loving the game again, so, thanks.
Awesome! So glad to hear you have shredders another try and are having fun with the game now! 😄 Thanks for your comment!

Awesome! Glad you hear this was helpful 😄 I hope you're liking Shredders!
@@ArktixOfficial I gotta practice the concentration into jump combo that you've mastered. Get all those damage bonuses!
@Sonny Yeah definitely! I also find it helps me aim, but that might just be a placebo left over from HZD Hunter Reflexes lol
Awesome! I’m glad to hear this was helpful! I hope you’re enjoying giving shredders a try! And thanks for your comment!
I feel like a hunting challenge early on or a quest forcing us to use the shredder what’ve went a long way. I had no idea that’s how these worked 😳
Totally! Yeah it's so easy to overlook them.
There was one.
@@BeeBumper I mastered all the hunting challenges I have no memory of having to use a shredder
fun fact of the day!, i just picked up the game and i got the first (Crappy) shredder and as soon as i saw the gauntlet shape and the projectile returning i immediately understood the assignment because they are a carbon copy of a sport that was born in my country. it's called "Pelota vasca" ("vasque ball" and the original name: "euskal pilota") where you get a gaunlet (tho there are crazy people all around the world and they play with the bare fist) that has the EXACT same shape as the gauntlet and you throw a (super hard) ball into a wall and someone else picks it up again while in the air to again throw it in the wall until someone gets a point (failing the catch or failing to properly hit the wall). quite fun sport.
Cool! Yeah I've heard shredders are based on that sport. That's cool you understood what was going on right away!
Woohoo a long awaited video! This was super good. Honestly, Phos is a lifesaver with all that research XD
Also another trick with shredders, they are really good for rebels, oddly enough. When fighting rebels, don’t use the fourth throw, just keep on resetting your throws, methodically ripping the enemies apart
@Plusle Playz Thanks! 😄 Yeah Phos really helped us all out on this one! And thanks for sharing your tip on rebels too!
how to reset throws? I thought disk just explodes after each 4th throw😯
@@ana484 If you quickly switch off and back on your ammo of choice, it resets it!

Great video! One thing I noticed using them is that the throw count buildup resets whenever Aloy gets knocked back by damage
@Vodkakaschka Yes! Good point. That’s definitely true. I probably should have mentioned that in the video!

Aktix? That was simply brilliant. You really need more subscribers man.
@Emeka Nweze Thank you very much! That is kind of you to say 😊🙏
Were you actually able to do it ingame?
I haven't yet. But having watched the video I am definitely got to give it a go!
@@pantharian2153 I fear it´s a mechanic which isn´t ingame, haven´t been able to do it, so if you managed it, please tell :)
I'm up to Singularity in Forbidden West on Ultra Hard. I have mostly ignored Shredders since they confused me, and only figured out one of the mechanics when I did a particular quest in Hidden Ember - the whole catching thing. I didn't know how important it was to catch them, though, aside from "get better to save ammo."
This video made me pick them up again. They're kind of fun to use. And even the rare weapon from the side quest was good enough to get me through Cauldron Kappa... with a lot of painful practice, of course, but it got me through.
Thanks for making these videos, man, the Horizon games don't seem to get too much coverage... ever.

Have you took a look at Arktix video on that? ua-cam.com/video/ZeDgQjk0ZBc/v-deo.html
Yes! Thanks for the succinct description of how to get it!
I despise those "loot before cutscene or you are screwed" things in games...
@@Apollo-Computers, after the update. Think you can loot it now after the cut scene.
Great vid! I started upgrading the ancestor’s return after a previous vid. Looking forward to a slaughterspine guide
@Winston Jones Thanks! Glad you hear you’re using your AR! I’ll definitely be doing a Slaughterspine vid! Slitherfang s are up next for my machine hunting series, but I think Slaughterspines will be after that!

Hey thanks a lot! Glad you've found my content helpful!
My only real wish for this game series is that they eventually add in a mechanic that lets you climb the bigger Robots! Like in Dragons Dogma!
Yes! I would love that as well!
Of course! Yeah Boom or Bust would be tough if that’s the first time you’re trying shredders lol. Hope you’re enjoying them now!
You forgot to show all the times, some machine attack hit and staggers/stuns you at the last moment, and your shredders fly past you ;). Again, you did a great job with the video with your quality marks (beginner to expert, early to late game, stats, real demonstrations). Some clarification i would like to know:
1. The agility damage boost is given upon launch of the projectile ?
2. Damage over Time coils, are they really that good? Some Milk Maiden Calculation (does that term exist in english?):
Normal = 100 33 33 33 = 199
DoT 50% = 100 50 50 50 = 250
24% imp. = 124 41 41 41 = 248
Probably i did something wrong then you and your team.
Well thanks because I nailed it on the first try ;) (not at all lol)
And good point on the DoT coils. Also, impact coils boost the initial hit, which is more of the damage, so maybe they’re better for that reason too. I’ll have to consider this for my weapon coiling video 🤔 Thanks for bringing it up!
@Paris Teta
Expansion on question 2. calculations:
You are absolutely right! Damage is similar with both coils. Good thinking :)
For coil dilemma:
There exists a third option. Namely concentration of agility coils (same category as they work the same)
These give
20% conc.: 120 40 40 40 -> 240
Overall less damage BUT on the contrary to impact and DoT coils, concentration/agility boosts damage, tear and elemental buildup for all throws including the last blast. In my research I discovered that impact and DoT coils don't affect the last blast of shredder gauntlets, so concentration or agility coils are the best choice (i.m.o) (also 15% agility exists, but no 15% concentration, sadly)
If you'd like, you could join the discord and we could talk more in depth about the shredders.
Ah yeah the game really doesn't explain it! I hope this was helpful if you give them another try 👍
Shredders are my favourite new weapon in the game.
@Team VLCN Me too! Spike throwers have grown on me a bit, but Shredders are where it’s at!
@@ArktixOfficial What makes them my favourite is how unique they are. Every other weapon type is "one and done" except for Shredders.
@Team VLCN Agreed! I like how unique they are too.
Quick question Arktix; what is the IDEAL coil setup for the DeathSeeker Hunter Bow?
@@adriensk7702 Your suggestions were superhelpful. Thanks a lot.
@@footballasylum6239 thanks a lot. much appreciated.
I've been watching a ton of your videos over this past week. You make some really good content!
Hey thanks! Glad you’re enjoying my videos 😁
Awesome
@Sigma Thanks!
Wow, Arktix this is definetly the one of the best shredder videos if not the best shredder video on youtube.
Glad you liked it AJ! Shredders are my favorite!
What is the purpose of tear coils if the agility coil increases elemental, tear and as well as direct damage.
Awesome! Always happy to hear of another shredder convert! lol. And thanks! I'm glad you're enjoying my content! 😄
Long range coil should give you more damage
@nupersu Yes! This is true, but long range coils are, of course, situational. I prefer coils that are guaranteed to always help me.
I had already started to enjoy shredders about halfway through the game, but this video is incredible and I'm going to make this one of my primary weapons.
Awesome! Glad this video inspired you to use them more 😁
I thought i played HFB enough … until I watch your video . The shredder gauntlet playstyle has suddenly bring back the game to life in my case .
Haha yes! I love shredders 😁 Hope you're enjoying them now too!
2 years late but still very helpful. I dont think i woulda ever used the shredder if i never found this video 😂. Thank you for your efforts ❤
Thank you so much for your guides! I never thought that I could actually use it properly. But thanks to your video I now can! And I finished rematch now because of it! Also thanks to your other video. So thank you, thank you, thank you!
Hey that’s awesome to hear! 😄 Good job beating Rematch 👍 Glad you’ve been finding my content helpful. Thanks for your comment!
Discovered how to use these today.....40 hours in. Very satisfying. Going to get better at it. Also going to watch a bunchbof your vids.
Awesome! Hope you're enjoying shredders more and finding my other vids helpful 😁
Your videos are amazing, man! Makes the game so much more enjoyable when you actually know what you're doing as opposed to just spamming R1 or R2 and hoping for the best. Thank you for all the time and effort you put into these and helping out the Horizon community!
Hey thanks a lot! Glad you’re finding my videos helpful 😄 It’s always my goal to help people enjoy the game more! 👍
This gave new life to Forbidden West, honestly gonna be the reason I start a New Game +. Awesome! Thank you!
Excellent! Glad you found this helpful and are going to dive into NG+ 😄 Thanks for your comment!
That’s awesome! Glad you found the guide helpful!
Omg! Where has this weapon been all my life! Tried to use it against the Shellsnapper when the two sisters gave it to me to test it. I dodged left and the returning disc went right. Thanks to this video, i'm gonna start using this weapon 24/7
Awesome! Hope you're having fun with Shredders. They're my favorite! 😁
Haha thank you! Glad you found this helpful 😄
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed this video 😁 I hope you're having fun with shredders, and the game overall!
Hey glad you found them helpful! Always happy to hear of another shredder convert 😁
This was a great breakdown on shredders. I've used them in the past but really didn't spend too much time on learning them. Think I will now though because of the tear damage I need parts and have been having issues getting them for upgrades. Thanks for the video.
Thank you! Glad you found this helpful 😄 Hope the tips prove useful!
Because of this guide I just forget to use other powerful weapon because how resources efficient it is. Thanks for the tips man you just got yourself a new subscriber ❤❤
Haha awesome! I love a shredder convert 😁 Ans thanks for your sub! 🙂🙏
Awesome! Glad this inspired you to give shredders a try 😁 They’re my favorite!
Another weapon I think people sleep on is Shieldwires. Using them with the Quick Wire Skill can help you avoid any ranged attack with the right timing.
Hmm interesting. I have to admit I haven't experimented with them much. I'll have to try that out. Thanks for sharing the tip!
Hey thanks! Glad to hear this got to you to give shredders another try 😁 I appreciate your like and sub! 🙏
This was such a big help thank you!!! I’ve been avoiding the sheer side hunting grounds challenge for the majority of the game, and I’m a 100 percenter so it was bothering me that I just couldn’t get the technique down
Excellent! Glad you found this helpful 😁
I was one of those people who wrote this weapon off but after using it for a bit....it's become my MVP weapon against heavyweight enemies
So helpful! I love Forbidden West and the enhanced combat mechanics - but it’s also a lot to remember after Zero Dawn’s relative simplicity. I loved the shredder right away, but now I can master it! Thank you!
Thanks! Glad you found this helpful 😄 There's definitely a lot to remember in Forbidden West. Hope you're having fun with shredders!
@@ArktixOfficial I went full ham with the shredder gauntlet last night, and had a blast. Even getting pretty good at catching them. I had no idea they had so much range until I saw your video. They are fast becoming my go-to weapon. Thank you!
Haha awesome! I always love to get someone hooked on shredders 😁 Glad you're having fun!
I love the shredder gauntlet. As I was playing I was starting to get deja vu vibes and feeling like the game was starting to feel too much like its prequel and then this new weapon type rly changed up how I played the game, and I rly liked that a lot
I love it too! I agree it really adds a new fun dynamic to combat!
And PS, I only used up 10 discs. Tear precision arrows are going back in the box...
Awesome! Love to hear a shredder success story 😄 We were all definitely one of those "huh?" people at first lol. Glad you're liking them!
