The quick hitch adapter is meant to be attached over the top of the quick hitch and pinned in place with your long top link pin. That's why the yoke is so wide on the adapter, so it straddles the top of the quick hitch. Then it just swivels down and you use a normal pin on the implement end like you did. If you have clearance, you should be able to leave the top hook in place. My buddy has a similar hitch and we swapped the bolts that hold the top hook on with pins.

Well, now I feel dumb. LOL But seriously, thank you for this information! I picked up the adapter locally after hearing about it on another video (showing it the wrong way like I did in this video) and didn't think about it. Guess what I'm doing tomorrow!! :)

I'm glad you explained this. I just got a Speeco and realize I need the QH adapter. the adapter is needed for all rotary cutters. Never gonna have clearance to pickup with the hook and really for a rotary cutter you want it pinned at the top, not just resting in a hook on top. big enough stump combined with uneven land using the hook could mean disaster. The hook is perfect for pretty much everything else though that isnt meant to flex. Whats annoying is that Amazon has pictures of it installed incorrectly. If you just move the rotary cutter then thats no problem but its still installed wrong.

Hi. I'm fairly new to tractors and I have a question I cant seem to find an answer for. Hoping someone can help. I have a ford 3600. It has a similar top link setup. You dont have a pin in the lowest hole. Mine didnt either. Im wondering why not, what that hole is for, and when i should use a pin there? Thanks.

    Hi Sam
Never knew watching someone working on their old tractor could be so much fun😃
It's because your comedic nature automatically incorporates itself into whatever you do.
And still we are able to make some sense of what you're doing😃
Enjoy seeing the old tractor. Thanks for giving it new life and hopefully many more years to come.
I like how you and Angela show the ups, downs, good, and bad of your life.
Wishing everyone at GAH the best of success, good health and safety

Have an additional suggestion --- DO NOT use the adapter with top hook "it is one or the other. To use adapter "Remove Top Hook" put adapter single bar end in top hole of brush hog then use forked end of adapter to quick hitch at same holes with top link adjustment bar. Removes over length and extra pivit points.

I️ just recently bought the Speedco cat 1 quick hitch for my JD 4044M. One thing I️ saw you do was to disengage the latches before you connected to each implement. I️ watched videos on how to attach implements, and the speedco allows you to leave those latches in the locked position and as you raise the quick hitch, the pins push back the latch locks and snap back into the locked position once in place. I️ hope this small piece of advice helps reduce the number of times us bigger guys have to mount and dismount the tractors!

It looks like if you take the Extension off and then take the square stock off and Take those support brackets coming from back of mower to where Square stock bolted on. It will stay out with those Flat stock coming from back of mower. You may need different bolts one for each bar. Bolt it where that Square stock bolted. That's in the way of upper quick mount..Just a suggestion .

Never seen a mower with the support arms that move like that. I’ve only seen the auto adjust as I will call it on the top link hookup. If he drilled another hole and made those braces solid than I bet it would work just fine. It would just shift the give to the adapter.

I have used the TSC Q/H and I can appreciate the convenience when using Q/H compatible equipment.. However, using it with my land pride finish mower is a pain. The lift arms are no problem to hook up, but the top link no. The Q/H changes the geometry to the point that that the back of the mower is droopy and I had to go with the extender. The finish mower floats on the four wheels so there has to be some slop in that link. Also the drive shaft can get in a bind if I let the mower down all the way, so I have learned to elevate the front of the deck a bit as to not destroy the drive shaft. Now, after all that I have developed a crick in my neck so it is difficult the be able to visualize hooking up. Once i got the Q/H adjusted, I like it fine except for mower deck. I found a smaller version @ harbor freight that works well on my dad's old dearborn implements. Of course, looking back @ implement history, there was no compatibility what so ever, so I glad there is some now, thanks , great video ...

I was looking at the yoke on the brush cutter, and am wondering if you can move the bar from the lower hole in the yoke and put it in the top hole where you had the adapter assembly, then put the adapter assembly in the lower hole, which will keep it from pivoting down too far to catch the universal hook assembly, it's worth a try!!, great video!

For years I used a 1956 Ford 640. Pretty much for brush-hogging and firewood shagging. When I retired my wife bought me a John Deere 1025R with 59 hours on it. First thing I added was a SpeeCo e-Hitch. So much easier to swap out three-point attachments. The rigid stabilizer arms of the Ford I do not miss. I do have to move the top hook on the SpeeCo frequently so I got a set of clevis pins to make that easier.

  • @travisknutti9331
    @travisknutti9331 Рік тому

Although this was about the speeco quick hitch, I noticed how many turns it took for you to start your tractor. Given you're in a t shirt I'm assuming it's some what mild Temps out. It would be advisable to get yourself an ignition tune up kit so your not working your starter to death trying to turn the engine over. Yesterday's tractor or stieners tractor have tune up kits for about 40 bucks. They include a set of plug wires, points, dust cover, coil, and condenser for the distributor, as well as a new set of autolite plugs. The other scenario if you have done this already, then you may need to adjust your choke, to allow it to restrict air flow to increase fuel for better combustion on start ups. On a separate note on your clutch situation and how you said your either going or not going. Although this isn't ideal to be doing all the time, but you actually have the ability to let the clutch slip. It's okay to do this when you need to creep and ease into implement hook up. You will just have to have more finesse as the "release" of your clutch. Granted yes your throw out bearing is working harder, but it beats crashing in to stuff 😅
Anyway just a bit of advice from a guy who owns a 1969 ford 3000

  • @sparkplug0000

I manually roll my Ford 1920 all the time when hooking up implements. I do find that, in addition to having it in neutral of course, disengaging the range selector helps considerably. And admittedly I’m doing it in a barn with a level cement floor. But the older and fatter I get, rolling it becomes easier than climbing up and down onto it to move it under power.

  • @kleetus92
    @kleetus92 9 місяців тому

Does this model of quick hit REQUIRE you to move the levers to connect? They should be spring loaded to snap into place, when you pick up on the implement. To take it off, yeah, flip them over to get the wedge out of the way, but for hooking up, you should be able to just go under it and lift up and here 1 or 2 clanks when the pins drop into place freeing up the locks.

Awesome and you’ll learn to love it when it works and hate it when it doesn’t. I grew up on a farm without them and later we got them. Good level flat ground and it was usually good. Iwe had multiple tractors of different size and hitches were different widths and categories. Ground would settle and cause the implements to change angles. It was always something to make it fun. But we could usually get the top hook to go and pull it to the correct spot.
On your cutter move your bar that goes to rest to the top pin hole and and a bolt /bushing to bottom like your grader blade. Or using the bottom hole mount the bar to rear on the outside by welding ears on it.
Also your lower pins on the cutter need to have a “head” on the outside.
Once you get all equip set up for the hitch it will work fine and great.

On your brush hog. It's hard to tell in the video but could you move your square tube with the joint to the top hole where the 3rd link usually sets and then move your pin to the lower hole and capture it with with the quick hitch? Drilling is a little bit easier (and cheaper) then welding and if it doesnt work.... well you were going to have to have some welding done anyways.

Secondly, I never used the top link on our rotary mower so the rear wheels stayed on the ground(we had an 8' Deere on Dad's 3020).
The quick coupler works, but your implements must be set up for it!

Also, it looks like you need to shorten up your top link more... just an observation from the armchair, LOL!!!

It looks like you might be able to unbolt the square tube and move it up to where your top link pin currently goes. Hard to tell if the top hook on the quick hitch will reach the pin if it's in that bottom hole though.

dont use the top hook on the quick hitch when using that adapter piece. The U shaped end goes over the quick hitch and you run your top pin through that

Can you replace those arms running from the hitch to the back corners of the cutter with chains?

I debated a quick hitch for my Kubota B2601 and found it didn’t really help me. I’m not in a hurry most of the time and a rubber mallet on the lifting arms works fine for me. I spent the money I saved on lights for snow plowing and late night projects. Better investment

I shared your frustration, I have old implements and had to adapt several to fit. Absolutely worth the effort. A couple tips, I fabricated a double pin with a D handle to replace the two bolts for the top hook which saves a lot of time, and for the bush hog and finish cutter I use a loop of chain on the top link connection and just drop it over the hook. They don’t need to be rigid at the top link, they can give going thru a ditch and still lift the implements. Has worked well for years.

I have a 1968 IH tractor. I use a Cat II quick hitch. It works great on implements that are quick hitch compatiable. Not on implements that are not QH compatiable. I actually remove the QH to use those implements. Not easy (Cat II = much heavier) but the QH makes it so much easier on the ones that it works on. Pat's Easy Hitch might be a better choice for you
I actually plan to rebuild the hitches on the implements that are not QH compatiable. Not an easy job, but it will save mounting and dismounting the QH
Good luck with your plan. I hope it works for you

So Sam obviously i don’t have a tractor like yours , but I have worked metal a bit. So take with a grain of sand, but what i see the black part that you hooked your adaptor onto…. Instead of the adaptor as you said added a pivot point what if you made side plates that were longer weld them on to the sides with extra holes for adjustments. Then this would reach your top connector with out adding a pivot point and at the same time let you keep the original hole for other tools. I hope you get what I’m trying to say wish I could add a sketch. Any way without not being there may not work ? But you could mock up with plywood just to see if it aligned before committing to cutting expensive metal. Good luck!

This was 9 months ago so you have probably already figured this out. On your mower the top link was in the top hole and a bar from the back was below it. Swap them so the quick hitch hooks in the bottom hole.

Great video Sam!! I tried the quick hitch was specco also it hooked up Great to my box blade which is quick hitch compatible but not my other implements. Bought a swivel thing has 2 rings that swivel in middle worked little better but still a pain I sold mine to a friend just do it the hard way till I save enough to buy Pat's easy hitch personally believe that's what you prolly need also. Ask tractor Mike shows those on his channel will hook to any implements. Good luck. Thanks for sharing be safe have fun enjoy ya'lls family time and beautiful homestead
