  • We recently stumbled upon a brand new, sealed VCR head cleaner....from 1985. I decided to give it a shot....because why not?
It's old, meant for those old top-loading VCRs, and will probably accomplish nothing.

Sandpaper cassette! That what those cleaning tapes basically are. They eventually destroy not only the heads but the entire tape contact path. I am a broadcast engineer and when we were using videotape (not any more, now all server based) we always used Chamous sticks and 99% alcohol. But video heads are very fragile so it does take some simple training or observation to do it right.

I remember always finding excuses to use the drops XD. Would love to boot up my old vcr and watch some 90s disney movies :)

That sticker is for checking off a box each time you use the head cleaner, as you're only supposed to use it about 50 times before replacing it with a new one.

I don't think those things actually work. Blowing on an NES game worked better than that lol.

Not a gimmick and they do work if your heads actually need to be cleaned ie fuzzy or no video, you don't just use them for the heck of it. I will say I would never recommend the wet cleaners like you used in the video they are the oldest style of head cleaning tapes. The dry non abrasive scotch 3m brand is the best imo.

People.....no need to use one of these head TAPE cleaners to clean the head. I watched another video earlier today and opened my player up and cleaned the head. It was so damn easy. Now my VHS player is working great. No more black and gray baloney instead of the picture. Watch another video on how to clean the head. The person had a pack of cleaning pads things. I used a piece of a paper towel folded into a square with a small amount of alcohol on it and used a clothes pin I use to close my chip bags to hold the paper towel in place while spinning the head from the top. Do not touch the surface of the head with your fingers. Take my advise and just watch another video on cleaning the head instead. Don't go out and waste your money buying this head cleaning tape. If I can do it you can do it to. Unbelievably easy....... 5 min. from now you can be watching one of your VHS tapes if it is just a dirty head probem. PS....Unplug the VHS/VCR first.....lololol... Go watch the video
