Thanks Zoe Cat... balance is one thing that SUP will improve immensely! The act of just standing on glassy calm flatwater is constantly firing up your "small twitch" muscles. We spend all out time on flat floors, flat spaces outside and most seldom walk on uneven ground, so our ability to balance goes to sleep. SUP changes all that and brings us back to where we need to be.... it improves so many things, just by having those small muscles working for us again!

Dear Rick. I had to go back to work to raise money for a sick relative, was worth it, believe me, I had 4 jobs, worked every hour I could....long story short, covid hit, lockdowns and not allowed to swim, my dog died, got another pup, had to put in long hrs of training and such, needed mullah for something else, have gone back to work every hour I have and my SUP and surfing has suffered big time. Havent been back much on You Tube, never realised the anguishes you were going through. I feel for you, man. You're amazing and YOU CAN DO THIS! That's awesome James.... I am glad it worked out for him! If my bottom layer was solid, it would be finished by now. I actually don't have any subfloor at the moment, as I had to rebuild a lot of joists and wall studs. Total gut and rebuild.
😄 lookin good Rick. A little investment in some hard labour and you'll be surfing in boardies year round. Your little surf session has inspired me to brave the inland track up to the point for some long ones. The Point made it into a surfline report recently (though it remained un-named😉 ) we picked up a New Zealand cyclone swell, probably the best I've seen it up there though I imagine it must have been magic when you were here (surfline cyclone sunburn : the Queensland points)

Thanks for the awesome comment 😊 That is a really good suggestion..... there are many little things you can do to make this easier, so maybe I can put something together. I am 100% "all in" on renovating my new home in Florida, so not a lot of time... but this would be fun! until I make the video: Here's a couple of quickies (I will treat each tip as a turn to the right, just to simplify) 1- look where you want to go... the body follows the eyes --- this is the single easiest thing to do. Want to go right? Look to the right" 2- Keep your paddle on the right side ("turn side").... that will automatically turn your shoulders and start you body rotation to the direction you want to go. 3- keep your front foot on the center line of the board.... lean more on the back foot and lean slightly to the right

I would put the tracking tag from my SoloShot camera on them, so we could go over good solid footage at the end of the day. It would be fun to see the changes that would take place with that kind of concentrated instruction.

I feel for you Rick. You’re going to have the mother of all gaps between the bottom of the doors and your new subfloor😂. I’ve been in the building game for over 30 years and never seen a floor that’s been topped 8 times. All the best and keep us updated with the renovation and the occasional surf.
Thanks Marcel, your comment is much appreciated!!! the good news is that the bedroom on each end, had only a tile layer above the original, and the doors open in, so they are the proper height 😊 That step up where I showed the layers was actually taken from inside the bedroom, so there was a "step up" to enter the living space. Yeah... 8 layers was totally insane luckily the OSB/linoleum square layer was very poorly glued and I was able to rip the tile layer above it in much bigger sections, without chipping every single tile up. That was the "Yeah Baby" moment!!! I am going to entertain the mobile home renovation crowd with my rehab.... if I can find the time. (I have filmed every day, so I have the raw footage.)

I have been watching your videos for awhile now. I'm taking steps into sup surfing now because of you. I haven't bought a board yet because my budget is limited, but also im running into a tough time making a decision with size and volume. The problem is i am way bigger than i used to be growing up weighing around 270lbs or 130 kg. Any advice on boards? I have surfed my entire life.

It's all good! I am super stoked to have a place to work on again... too many landlords and rising rents. This project was expected when I bought.... all the flippers walked away, shaking their heads, and I said "Heck yeah... I'll do it!" The extent of the work is the only reason I could afford it... and my labor is cheap 🤗
