  • This is the second video of my photo trip to Svalbard. In this video I will show you an incredible encounter we had with a male polar bear on drift ice over 80th parallel North. He was eating on a big seal, probably a bearded seal, and we spotted him from a long distance. We carefully approached the bear with our zodiacs and spend some amazing time with this bear. While photographing him he jumped twice in the water and drying his fur on the ice. That was the moment when my wife Mona named him yoga bear.
Sorry for some shaky videos due to some movement from the zodiac.
I hope you like this video and might even hit the like button, leave a comment or subscribe my channel.
If you haven't seen part I make sure to watch it. Thanks for watching!!!
Phototrip to Svalbard Part III releases 14. August 2022.
Do you like to visit Svalbard and meet the polar bear? I really can recommend Arctic Wildlife Tours. They provide with the best guides and know how to find wildlife and approach carefully without disturbance.

What a fantastic photo opportunity. You must have been over the moon to find a large male bear feeding like that and in decent light too. With the interaction of the gulls and the antics of the bear cleaning and stretching itself, you must have had an absolutely wonderful experience.
    Great images and video.

Oh Wow. This one you have surpassed your usual high quality. Superb. I’m not jealous. Well yes I am. And all those Glaucous gulls and I think I spotted a single Ivory Gull too. (6 mins 28 secs in )
The way that bear behaved for you one would think it was in the actors union. Fantastic. Thank you can’t wait for part 3.

Ive been enjoying your Svalbard videos! We are going to Svalbard with Actic Wildlife Tours in June 2024. For a long Prime do you recommend a 600 f/4 or 400 f/2.8 for this trip? I can only take one due to weight limits on the flights. I have both 1.4x and 2x TC's available also. Thanks

Hi Darren. I just arrived back in Longyearbyen after a new trip with Arctic Wildlife Tours. This time we have seen a 3-4 month old polar bear cub. I just have the 400 f/2.8 and extender 1.4× + 2x, but most of the time I wished to have a 600mm. If you just can take one with you I would recommend the 600. If you have a 70-200mm I would bring for situations where the bear might come very close. I wish you a wonderfull trip. In summer time it's much easier to find polar bears than now in winter where we have a lot of ice. Best wishes from Svalbard 😊
