I got on and played VR for the first time in awhile. Took my P38 out and got 4 player kills in a row and still closed the game because now planes in VR look like a muddy smudge. Very disappointed.
I think the main problem is the target speed. For some reason Radar missiles trip up and wont track off the rails unless your closing speed is about 200m/s
Hands down the most well put together reviews for WT, especially for SB. Do you happen to know where to find the proper speeds to operate a given aircraft? It would be really awesome if I didn't have to perform some guesswork for how to fly the damn things. If I at least knew the proper speeds for sustained turn rates I feel like I'd be a lot more confident in my flying.
The speeds are based on comparisons with in-game data and the wiki page for the vehicle in the game. They are usually the most accurate for what you will get in the game itself.

F-8E should have RWR because in real life it does have one. I researched its files and information deeply into the internet, and I posted it in the forums of Gaijin. It will be changed soon.
Yeah, the real one had one for sure. As did most of the aircraft/jets which currently have none, that and flares were some of the most popular refits during the 60's and 70s.
@@LupusAries None of the F-4Bs that I flew had RWRs and we had no flares. The AirForce had the new stuff but the Marines never got it. They also had the real inertial Navs but we had the manual model that had to be corrected manually. One flaw in this video is the dependability of the AIM 9 missiles. They were notorious for their unreliability as were the AIM 7 Sparrows.
@@rudyyarbrough5122 Interesting, when was that? If you don't mind and it is not sensitive information still. The Sea Harrier FRS.1 got chaff via s Heath Robinson modification in the airbrake (pull airbrake to get one cloud of chaff, once) just before the Falklands War, according to Sharkey. But then I thought that was "them MOD" on a far more limited budget than US Forces. Fully agree on the missiles, their effectiveness is far exagerated, to the detriment of gameplay. A lot of people on Enigma's Cold War Server have stated they enjoy fighting on it more, because the missiles are less capable, and need to be flown into a good launch position. And it leads to more protracted Dogfight with the gun being used a lot. P.S. my first time firing a GAR Air Force Variant of the earliest Sidewinder from a Sabre in DCS was a rude shock! I knew from research that it was really bad, but one does not appreciate how bad, until one has seen it.
@@LupusAries I was in Vietnam in 1965 with the early F-4B model. We had almost nothing when they shipped us to the theater as far as equipment to support the mission. We actually got one of the planes from MD that was used in the record-setting process. It was like getting a sports car with a fleet of trucks. It had no external hardpoints and was very sleek. We sent it to Japan for a complete overhaul and upgrade to combat status. We were using electronic fusing on our bombs but they were faulty and several of our planes were damaged by early detonations. We went back to wire actuated manual nose fuses.
@@rudyyarbrough5122 Was that record setter fun to fly before the overhaul? Interesting about the electronically actuated fuzes, I had never heard of them. I just saw your video in my recommendations and I must say, I'm impressed. I'm more of a ground RB kind of fella, but after only a few seconds into the video, the effort put into it is very apparent. The presentation, format, editing and background footage are all top-notch. Liked and subscribed. Well done!
Thank you! It's especially awesome to see players who don't usually do sim enjoying them! As for RB, I'm planning to expand these reviews to include tank RB in the future - I just don't currently have the time to expand that much yet lol
18:30 if I had to bet, the -9C seeker was recalcitrant because you had (almost) zero closure. SARH seekers hate 0 closure and the same closure as the ground. The one time I saw you use it head-on, it locked almost instantly, and only missed because your target dodged.
A great cockpit view of the actions but in the cockpit, it is not jerky or confusing like in the video. It is like sitting at your computer desk and turning your head with no jerky movements. The flying is as natural as peeing and you never have to look at any instruments for information. When you see another plane you don't take your eyes off of it until you can put it on your nose and then you select the weapon of choice. I loved the cockpit chatter and the CGI was super. It doesn't quite capture the real feeling but is entertaining.
The only incidents I ever heard of wings failing on the F-8 were cases where the 2 position wing was not locked in which case the whole wing came off the fuselage under high G.
37 weapon options?! Madness! When the heck are we going to get weapons by hardpoint instead of this ever increasing dropdown clutter? More on track though, absolutely brilliant review of the aircraft. I can't wait to see you fly this bird more in the future.
Please can you do a video on the FGR.2 I’m failing bad and don’t know how to play it, it has good armament tho so yh if you could do a video on it it would be rly helpful!
Before watching the whole video: F8 is the best plane to spank mig23 with, since it outturns them (except on afghanistan where it struggles a bit more)
Any chance you good revisit the Mig23 and go over the 27? Maybe 27 for sim ground strike and 23 for fighter? I don’t know if they removed SP costs in Air Sim but if you could go over the 23 that would be great. And remember only if you want to as I don’t want to have you do something you don’t like.
are you sure the F8E can reach those speeds? Last time i checked the F8U could barely reach mach 1.02 at 5km in a straight line. I heard from an RB player that it got bugged a few days after release to the public server (which gave it the rudder twitch problem) Also the F8 rips easily because the elevator authority is a little too generous, it does something like 17 Gs of turning capability without trim assistance if your plane is to not rip. I've also not really had much issue with whole "likes to catch fire and fires are fatal" problem. From memory the plane's actually pretty tanky
The speeds are taken from the game and the wiki, so if something is off in-game it may not be reflected. Might be something I'll have to change moving forward. As for the fires. Youre lucky haha, I burned out a few times in the past two weeks.
yall know if the 2nd american saber has the radar gun sight that is supposed to improve accuracy some? the japanese variant seems to really dig the sim vids! i found ur video on it!

I feel it lacks the emphasis on the Aim9C as it is an EXTREMELY good dogfighting sahr missile.

Correct! I should have mentioned that I was only talking about the lack of RWR from the game's perspective.
The F-8E is my current favorite plane in-game!
Unfortunately, it has the wrong engine and radar
Lmao nice pfp
Pick the F-8H if it available. It is the F-8D ne F8U-2N with J-57P-420 that produces almost 20,000# of thrust.
Purchase cost: your left kidney. Spawn cost: the right one.
Great video as ever!

FGR.2 is 100% on my to-do list, fear not!
You need to rely on your missiles and radar in the fgr 2. If you're stock, I'd suggest going for ground targets until you get the missiles.
Yea the repair cost made me regret buying this heavily not only did I spend 1 mil but stock repair cost is 13k didn’t end well

Kind of strange the F4C is a lower BR than this…
sadly in game F8E should be renamed F-8D since the only thing it actually has from F8E is the bullpup capability and everything else is F-8D
Nothing says realism like going for the gun kill over the missile kill...

T16000M Flight stick, throttle, pedals, and a Rift-S :)
