Chorus:
I keep a close watch on this heart of mine
I keep my eyes wide open all the time
I keep the ends out for the ties that bind
Because you're mine, I walk the line

What's amazing is that Carl Perkins, the Statler Brothers, and the Carter Family were all headliner acts in their own right, and here they are singing and playing backup for Johnny Cash.
The Statler Brothers had their first hit in 1965 with "Flowers on The Wall" written by Lewis DeWitt but they didn't go out on their own until 1972. Tennessee Three lead guitarist Luther Perkins who was with Johnny for over 12 years had recently died in a house fire and Carl filled in until Johnny was able to hire a new lead guitarist- Bob Wootten.
It's the greatest album of all time. I remember seeing it on TV as a kid. Sometimes they have the CD for $5 in the bargain bin at Walmart.
@@trailwindz7833 Well I hope I can find that CD! That's a helluva deal!
@@jerrybrownell3633Bob Wooton is in this concert though, and Carl Perkins stayed with the band for years after bob joined
Easy to tell.Johnny wasn't feeling very well during this performance yet he gave it his all. Thats how important he felt this particular show had to go on.
This was before he was sober so he was probably going through some type of withdrawal at the time
@@blobfish4999
That’s probably my guess too. What a legend all these people were. My hat goes off to all of them
What makes you say that?
@@RobK32 Looked a bit under the weather to me...mayne nit.
I wish I could go back in time and rob a bank in California in 1967, just so I could be sent to San Quentin and see this concert live.
When your favorite singer was actually the greatest EVER! RIP Johnny Cash..
Beautiful
R.I.P. Johnny Cash ! ua-cam.com/video/Z5pAGvph8aw/v-deo.html *RED RIVER VALLEY* Johnny Cash *Guitar Solo Version*
Not the greatest Johnny Cash fan, and this is why. He really is a one man act. He don't need any of them.

I love Cash. I identify with him so much. Such a good person, but so hard on himself.
Johnny Cash and Carl Perkins, among the greatest!
It was my first Johnny Cash album. But, far from my last! Rest with June, big guy. You will always be my inspiration. The man in black 👏 👏 🖤
Cash with Perkins! In the prison! Got to love the 60s!
RAW FOOTAGE!!!! YES!!!!!! TAKE MY MONEY AND GET IT TO US ON BLU-RAY!!!!!
Omg please put it on blue ray or available to buy entire concert!!
They probably would have to find a lot of the missing footage and that would take forever
I simply LOVE The Man.
That was truly a captive audience.
ucctgg I see what you did there! 😉
They couldn’t have asked for their money back even if they didn’t like the show.
I could cry watching this. Grenada tv really need to release the entire concert
This is a timeless performance.
Lucky prisoners! Hello from Saudi Arabia, my favorite singers Johnny & June ❤️
Please more footage of live at San quentin in Remastered quality!!!
But in all honesty, live performances lose a lot of quality when the song is performed at an excessive speed, I would say almost unnatural. Greetings, friend. ua-cam.com/video/ScAgYdrN67w/v-deo.html *YOU ARE MY SUNSHINE* Johnny Cash *Guitar Solo Version*
@@FrancescoAlcozer Don't force us to listen to your sorry solo, Francesco.
@@GatorRock789 Thanks buddy, it's just a matter of taste.
@@FrancescoAlcozer Taste has nothing to do with not listening to your sorry solo.
This is a remarkable effort from a guy who has assembled images from tv show and album st quentin legacy edition
0:14 love Carl Perkins' upbeat tone on that guitar with the legendary boom chicka boom
This is so cool. This is the first time I have seen this clip. It's cleaner than the others in viewing (San Quentin Show). I read somewhere Marty Stewart paid someone a lot of money back in the day to get his hands on the missing tapes of the show. The Cash estate did great finding this
Yeah unfortunately someone made a fool out of Marty.
@@mattcravens2473why?
@@RobK32 they scammed him into buying "authentic" tapes of the show, that of course turned out to not be true.
This shows the world you and your wife first Love❤️ I wish I had something like that of my daddy and mother. My mother and daddy sang Christain country to our prisoners for 25 years, until mom went to heaven. I can tell you for sure, they are happy🌹✝️
These are icons of country music who care about people . All people and unlike a lot of artist of today poor people. And giving people a second chance. This is real country not shaking butt around on stage. And that there is how a real lady dresses , Not dancing around in your underwear.
I agree!!!!
Together, with Live in Folsom, theese are the best live Shows in the World of music ever, Johnny Cash, was for me, one of the authentic Artist in the World! I will never forget him! 🙌🏻♥️
0:59 best country drum solo EVER!! Not to mention WS Holland is right-handed, left-footed!
WS Holland Was The greatest drummer ever!
Father of drums
Rip Johnny Cash
Carl Perkins was there!!!! Amazing
Our heavenly Lord doesn’t exclude anyone of his attention and love. No artist should, either. Too few are those who think on prisoners. Johnny Cash did it and that is wonderful. My father sang in prisons, too.
June and Carter family are sooo adorable
Fabulous upbeat temple. Great songs
All time favorite thank you
Ring of fire for me 13abes
@@juanramirezgonzalez2213 ok tied for favorite 😁
When he covered nine inch nails hurt :)
@@juanramirezgonzalez2213 epic rendition, I can't listen to it anymore. Reminds me of my pops who I lost in 2011. Gods gonna cut you down is another epic song he remade. Shit there are so many another fav is One piece at a time. I am a total car nut which is the reason for loving the song
Sorry for your loss , yeah lots
A legend!!
What a shame that the footage of Carl Perkins was missing.
1:30 first time seeing the Statler Brothers in film in this show!...
Patriot I absolutely agree with you
@@franklinroosevelt3030 thank you Mr. President 😎
Awesome
Imagina como deve ter sido ver todos esses talentos juntos ao vivo. Demais!
Yes please more Johnny cash at st Quentin prison performering
Wow this is so cool!!! Couple of my personal observations:
1. Johnny was pure. Genuine. You could tell he was there for a reason, not to make money or be a star. So few people in music were ever like him.
2. That Eppiphone guitar and Fender amplifier - great combination
3. June was a little cutie in her day!
If only I had a time machine
Alice Quinn you would go back in time, murder someone just to get into this prison, see this show & completely mess up the space-time continuum.
I would be a officer that was there or an official that was at the show
wow i never seen this video
johnny cash my best singer
I've never seen the video for this clip, but it's amazing. Amazing quality too!

Awesome.
Johnny's long time lead guitar player Luther Perkins had recently died in a house fire and Carl ( no relation to Luther ) joined the Tennessee Three until Johnny hired a new lead player- Bob Wootten .
Carl was also the rhythm guitarist I guess for a while. I actually want to have a Carl Perkins part in my future Cash Tribute Band, N.R Cash: Back in Black.
And both of them are in this video
I love June Carter she was a grate singer
Can't hide the truth!
Super,tento konec jsem nikdy neviděla,díky❤

What a revelation 50 years on! I've always wondered if Granada Television had extra footage not used in their 1969 documentary. Do you have any other footage from this concert you could upload, please? Where did you acquire it?

Where is that little part in which he thanks the warden of San Quentin?
When the inmates boo him and Cash said "away you dont really mean that" to uproarious laughter. That was earlier during the show.
There's no footage there for that, not yet anyway
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
He died this day 16 years ago.
1969
anyone know why the Carl Perkins missing footage?
No
Probably because the tape broke the footage is from 1969
