i like that Audi is designing their EVs to look and feel like a normal car rather than going hyper minimalistic or hyper complex, and like other manufacturers are doing, i think making EV versions of normal ICE cars is the best way to go aesthetic wise, as one of the major turnoffs for me when it comes to EVs are how basic a lot of them look.
I 2nd that. Improvement is definitely needed if they want more people to invest in electric. At least the onroutes along the highway in Ontario now have chargers but not enough.
IDK if you guys would know this yourselves, but electric power is negatively impacted by low temperatures, and I know a lot of canada has permafrost underground, which is where the cables are that run from power stations to chargers, so is the distance from power stations to chargers possibly part of the problem with how glitchy your chargers are? On the subject of the US reviewers mentioning charging, I live about 40 minutes from The Capital Building in Washington DC and electric charging is at most major grocery stores (depends on size of store, but most have 2-6 charging spaces), so IDK if you guys in Canada have chargers at grocery stores or not, but maybe try to think about charging anytime one is available in a parking lot instead of only charging once you're low and having to specifically look for a super fast charger every time. I think the idea has been that charging isn't like gas stations since it can be done almost anywhere at some rate, so try to remember to get into a habit of plugging your car in each time you leave it.
The reason that American car reviewers don’t whine about Canada’s crappy charging infrastructure is that Canada’s crappy charging infrastructure is way, way, way worse than America’s charging infrastructure. Canada and USA are 2 different countries, and our charging infrastructure is way better.
@@moogle68 guess you haven’t seen the insanely long line for charging stations particularly in California where many electric cars are. There power infrastructure can barely handle it now. What about when there’s 100,000 more electric cars that need charging?
People don't use frunks in most cars because you have to open the hood and then open an additional lid below it. I use my frunk in my model 3 all the time for stuff I don't want people to get to if they were to break the glass, and also for take out or leftovers (so the smell doesn't permeate the cabin).
People don’t realize how useful a frunk is until they have one. I use my 2018 model 3 frunk all the time for the same reasons. When I think about buying a new model 3, I’m discouraged by the fact that the frunk is smaller after the heat pump update
I DONT understand all the hate with the ID4. I drove with my friend from Florida to Myrtle Beach(500 miles) in one and it was amazing. The infotainment didnt have any issues and since he was an actual OWNER, not someone testing it for a few days, he had gotten used to where everything was in the infotainment and there were few if any slowdowns. I believe they've also updated it since then with more speed. Also suspension wise, it was great. Stiff on twist curves and soft but firm over bumps. Its very solid riding. Was super quiet and in particular it had amazing headlights that were great for night driving. We had to stop and charge it 2 times on that trip and each stop was about 30 minutes or so but it was pretty much just plug and play. He plans to hold onto it even after the warranty expires, and if I was in the market for an EV i would definitely look over the ID4. I think you guys are being more than a little unfair to that car. I've seen a ton of them all over my city and the owners seem to be happy. Doug Demuro seems to agree on that as well.
Me neither. It’s a good EV. Jakub in particular seems to have a crazy irrational hate for it and criticizes it very unfairly. Yuri seems to think it’s fine and criticizes it where it’s fair.
They missed the ball on this one! The Id.4 is extremely comfortably, smooth acceleration and all this capacitor touch bullcrap is just that. It works just fine. The price point is completely different!
ID4 is an ugly looking car. That's my first issue. I just don't like the exterior nor the interior. And this is in the same price point, so might as well get the Q4 E tron.
I agree! I just bought mine AWD and it’s amazing! I considered this Audi but honestly the interior seemed boring. And the looks of the id4 what are you even talking about?! She’s gorgeous!
The problem is Ontario. We took our Bolt out to eastern Quebec this summer and it was like time traveling to the future. Way better charging infrastructure and reliability. Hit problems only when we returned to Ontario and realized we needed to think about route planning again. You should do a review in QC!
BC is pretty good, too. I rarely have had an issue in almost 4 years. Although Petro-Canada is avoided at all costs. They don't care. Meanwhile, a call to BC Hydro will get a charger reset/rebooted and they can initiate a charge remotely. I'm sure gas pumps were a bit confusing in the early 1900s, too. Maybe people should just roll with it and be less entitled to everything all at once.
I have a 2019 Audi E-Tron that I love. I got it used and it was a good deal. The range is terrible, yes, but you need to drop the "full tank" mentality. You can charge at almost any destination. So you're never at the bottom, never completely full. It helps that I live in Vancouver which has a lot of chargers which I realize isn't a reality for everyone but it works for me. The car is super luxurious, drives like a dream, has tons of room and looks great. It is super heavy so it doesn't feel as nimble as other German cars but it is still very comfortable.
A lot of reviewers compare the Q4 to the original. I have an e-tron 55 2022 (just before they announced the q8 facelift) and the driving difference between the Q4 and the original e-tron is massive. The air suspension alone is night and day. The interior quality is also completely different. There's so much hard plastic in the q4 vs the original e-tron. Heck people don't talk about how capable the original e-tron is off-road. Like - I can take it everywhere my Land Rover Discovery could go.
@@issavibez394 How do you even figure that? When most electricity is produced burning fossil fuels, so-called, in the first place anyway, I can not see the logic in that argument. On top, here in Denmark most of our locally produced electricity is produced on two huge coal powered plants, one basically in Copenhagen City center and the other at the outskirts of our second biggest city, Aarhus. Basically, not even the particulates in the air argument has a leg to stand on for EV's!
I'd look at the stats of how many people charge at home. I would guess most people who live in condos or apartments probably shouldn't get an ev due to the charging problem. There are hardly any charging stations where I live yet there are a ton of teslas and evs. If it was that big of a problem, you would think there would be less.
@steve louie ev are a disappointment lol so many of them are just failing miserably have u seen what happened that new electric hummer ev its best tested on a highway trip and completely failed in the middle of the interstate lol 😆 🤣
After 13 months and over 20k km (plus 60+ videos) I’m still loving my Q4. I’ve got a 40 S-Line (rwd) so it’s not quick but for a family car it’s fast enough and no slower than my old 520d. I picked this over the ID4 and Skoda Enyaq partly due to looks, HVAC controls and the infotainment system. Audi’s MMI and Virtual Cockpit work really well and are tried and tested. Anyone coming from another Audi won’t have a steep learning curve to get used to the Q4. I think this is a great move by Audi. There’s nothing here to scare off ICE drivers (local charging infrastructure aside) in the showroom. It’s not a crazy electric car with an Audi badge, it just an Audi that happens to be electric👍🏻🏴
Have had the Q4 e-tron for over a year now and I am super happy with it. Got the s-line edition with sports setup, which I believe makes for an excellent driving experience (given that it is a SUV). You said that there was nothing special about the headlights - I think that they are exceptional! The matrix LED headlights does a superb job at night - newer experienced anything even close to that. Hope you will soon get better charging infrastructure in North America. In northern Europe it has become quite good over the last couple of years and now is not a concern at all.
Guys, if the battery is cold af and has a high SoC, you don't get max charging speeds. One additional note though, VW/Audi isn't shipping battery preconditioning yet, so even you navigate to a charger, the battery isn't heating up properly like the systems in a BMW, Mercedes or Tesla are already working.
It’s not cold af. We’ve had the exact same situation with an Ioniq5 at this charger and we even spoke with some senior execs at electrify Canada that told us some of the chargers could be partially broken without any public indication. Hence, the 150kw charger directly beside the 350kw charging at a faster rate
@@TheStraightPipesPlease keep hounding the execs at Electrify America/Canada on behalf of all us EV drivers. Their infrastructure is absolute shit. I use to defend them but they have completely fallen apart here in the states this past year. EV drivers tend to be defensive over anything negative regarding EVs bc they believe in the better, greener future but we need to call out these companies if we want them to get better. Infrastructure is the only thing holding mass adoption back. It needs to be reliable and easy enough for my grandma to use, that’s the true test. Bc at the end of the day, EVs shouldn’t just be for EV enthusiasts who can put up with EA.
@@TheStraightPipes sorry my language was propably a bit harsh. ;) The charging situation in Canada is looking pretty dire, nevertheless at 40-50% SoC you'd probably see 80-100kW under perfect conditions and not the advertised 135kW peak. The Ioniq5 is even more impaired by a coldish battery - as far as I know, Hyundai is finally is rolling out an update for preconditioning. Some charging station providers in Europe are displaying, what the car is asking for and what the charging station is able to deliver. I think this should become a standard in the industry, so customers know, if there's something wrong with the station or the car.
@@TheStraightPipes the charging rates vary based on how full your battery is. If your battery is low it'll charge much faster. When your battery is half full it won't charge fast
Yeah, it’s not even close to being as “bad” as they’re acting like it is. It’s a good EV. I understand some criticism of the ID.4 but it is not a bad car.
@@nothere572 Agreed, they even said that they tested the RWD ID4 and they compared the speed to the AWD of the Q4 and not the RWD of the Q4. Kinda unfair to compare.
I drove one when I was in the market last year. It was ok to drive, just meh compared to other cars I was cross-shopping. Maybe because they only had shipped the rwd variant at that point, but they seem to have the power deliberately gimped at takeoff. Plus the infotainment controls are abominable, borderline unusable.
Agreed. I did a test drive of the Ionic 5 and ID4 in the same day and thought ID4 was good; they were able to make it feel like a VW. The infotainment system on it was a big negative I will give you that. I recently went from electric (i3) back to ICE (GTI) in part because a lot of the issues you discuss with the charging network in Canada. And I live on the west coast where you would think it would be good considering the political climate and the actual climate.
Lots of hate for the ID.4 (my friend loves his) and electric charging in general. I have a Mini Cooper SE and a level 2 charger at home. Fast (enough) charging is not a problem. I've also had better luck than you with public chargers (EV-go in the US).
Sorry to hear you guys continue to have issues with charging infrastructure. Here in California I've having zero issues charging my i4 M50 at Electrify America
I'm all in for daily EVs, but that lack of a useful charging network confirms the pont on The Grand Tour Season 2, Episode 1, "ICE is the Past, EVs are the future, but Hybrids are the present 🧐" Also I really like how the Audi look like EV versions of normal cars as it should be :),
I own an EV and I really appreciate you guys calling out the charging infrastructure. The fact that Tesla, a single company, is getting it right vs. all the competition should be embarrassing to legacy auto makers.
Since when are car brands responsible for fuelling your car? I never heard of Toyota gas stations. As soon as there is money on the road (EVs that need charging) the industry will follow. Here in Germany public CCS chargers 150kW and more are far FAR more abundant than Tesla chargers.
@@hkad6252 Electrify America/Canada is a subsidiary of VWAG. Their chargers are a crapshoot, roll a dice and see if you're lucky. You would think that all the cars under the VW umbrella would have no problem charging at their own chargers but that's not the case.
@@benliu6420 Yeah I agree thats pretty awkward. I was saying one company can never pump out the volume of chargers we need and operate it. Like chargers at all super markets. The free market will have to do that anyway.
I own a Q4, and in NY, DC fast is pretty much non existent unless you're a Tesla owner. I love the car, and can charge at home - but we still need an ICE for trips. EVs will not succeed until the network improves. Period. EV range degrades 15-20% at temperatures below 20F, which I think is pretty good compared to my previous EV - which was around 30% at less than 30F. We have to remember that even ICE vehicles see a decrease in fuel economy in the cold temps, but if you can't charge Level 2 at home, this type of EV will probably make you mad.
Well, otherwise you would also have to leave your gear and grosseries in either the tunnel or the open bay of a truck. But, it is bizarre to me, that virtually none of the European car makers can find room for a frunk. Even on EVs based on a shared platform with ICE and hybrid cars, whit a long bonnet.
I don’t use the frunk because of the inconvenience of the under-dash lever & under hood release like an ICE. It’s not convenient for frequent access so I just keep emergency stuff there (extra charge cables, tire patch kit, etc.).
I really wanted the Q4 but Audi ditched their reservation system so dealers here in the PNW are marking them up $5-$10k. The equivalent Q4 to the ID4 I wanted would've been $17k more after the cheapest markup I could find. And that's before taxes. I just couldn't justify that.
In Illinois. I paid $5000 on a contract for an Audi Q4 E-tron (switched it to sportback recently) in Jan 2022. The contract added $5000 onto the price in case of delays. I may win out in the end. I am still waiting.
Reviews like this are proof that EV charging networks and EV range still aren't good enough. Maybe in a few years (after solid state batteries are implemented), EV's will actually be worth it for most people. Thanks for continuing to show these problems!
obviously that depends on the country and the cars; EV work just fine in Norway ... more than 90% (!!!) of all new registered cars are all electric, not even counting hybrid electric ones. And guess what: Norway is a spread-out country with low population density and very rural areas
I really wish our respective governments (US and Canada) would have worked with the auto and power industries to set up working, national charging networks BEFORE they required manufacturers to start making EVs. But that would have been logical, and governments don't work that way...
We love our ID4 GTX. Not sure what you're on about. Yeah I would prefer physical buttons, but haven't really missed them for a 2000 mile roandtrip so far.
I think in the US it's not much better. Very limited information, I don't have EV, but all reviewers that ever did actually mention struggled with this. As a car enthusiast, loss of manual is hugely sad for me for the future, but unless there's drastic improvements to charging, EVs are a non-starter for me. Give me plug-in hybrid to "top off" in a few hours to give me basic commuting range and then gas for trips all day.
@@richardnavratil9661infrastructure takes time for rn the ppl buying EVS are still early adopters and they’re gonna have to deal with the inconveniences that come from that
@@Carfan678 For sure they are. I'm saying, that's one of the huge obstacles to mass adoption. Regardless of how many articles come out that x% of new cars are now electric.
@@Carfan678 That's the thing, there's no incentives to the EV. Its ALL compromises right now. First owner won't save anything in the long run. In fact, they will still pay more for the inconvenience of being the first to own an EV. The only advantage is the 0-60, but that's only on the sporty versions. These pedestrian EVs, don't even have that.
I rarely use my frunk but I feel like it's an absolute requirement. Extra storage space is always welcome and it shows the company put thought into the design instead of just throwing batteries in a ICE platform
Frunks are overrated, cars like this and the ID.4 have a much shorter hood than cars like the Mach E, meaning they can fit more interior space in the same footprint compared to an EV with a frunk
It’s actually the opposite. You usually get a frunk with and ICE platform because there is no engine. Tesla did it as a gimmick and for looks reasons, longer hoods look sportier. This is an EV only platform, which uses space extremely efficiently. It has a short hood because it doesn’t need it, and instead allocates it to interior space. It would be nice to have a little cubby to store your L2 cable under the hood though.
This literally has the same power as the ID.4 AWD but is slower than the ID.4 because it is heavier. 😂 At the same time, the RWD ID.4 is cheaper and has more range while still being faster than the average compact suv. Not everyone needs more performance and instead may place more value on price and range. I appreciate criticism but it should be balanced. This sounded like 2 guys who don’t know what they are talking about, you can do better. 😉
I really like the videos these guys make, but this one has a huge flaw. The title is about comparing the ID4 to the Q4 but they are comparing two wheel drive to AWD. Until they drive the AWD they shouldn’t comment. In electric cars, AWD usually means an extra motor, so it’s a whole different deal. I’m disappointed in these guys. That said, I agree the the Q4 is much nicer and I wouldn’t buy the ID4 just based on the switches and infotainment system as I have an anti asinine rule. Which means it annoys me when manufactures make things worse just to make them seem more modern. However, here in America, the ID4 qualifies for the full tax credit and it’s the only “moderately” priced suv to get it so I think they are going to sell as many of the ID4 as they can make.
I use my frunk and it stores my tools, snow brush, air compressor, charging cables.. that way my trunk can be used for anything else.. vehicle related supplies go in the frunk.. I know quite a lot that love using it.. as for our charging infrastructure it does need to be improved.. we need more gas stations to be involved to start converting some spots for EVs and possibly reduce their gas pumps as the switch in vehicles continue.
When I drove a PS2 for a while the fronk was perfect for leftovers from restaurants. I never eat them, for starters, and I never smelled them in my car! It was perfect.
This is a shame to see that the charging infrastructure around Ontario still has a long way to go. Not sure about the situation in British Columbia, where I visit fairly often. As someone who lives in California where EV chargers are virtually everywhere in the cities, suburbs and frequently available even in many rural areas, it's easy to forget that charging infrastructure is far from being guaranteed whenever you drive away from home.
I originally ordered the regular SUV despite my dislike of these cars. Too big and I dislike driving behind them. They block the view. So I changed my order to the sport. It seems to have a lower profile and everything else the same. Still waiting. Originally made a contract Jan 2021!
Your title says 2023 but it looks like the 2022 model with the 10.x inches display Vs the 11.x display in the 2023 model. Can you please confirm? Thanks.
Re: Boost - it's just Physics. As the battery SoC decreases, the battery pack voltage drops. The same current (Go pedal) with a lower voltage = less power. So...state of charge drops -> Volts drop -> Amps drop. All that means less power (Watts). Watts = Amps * Volts
In the US they have a $950 black optic plus package. I want this for the flat bottom/top steering wheel and the sport front seats. Downside is I do not prefer black interior. Too hot in the summer and it shows dirt more readily. I want the parchment, but the sport front seats only come in black. Sport seats are supposed to be superior. The brushed dark aluminum inlay and black exterior elements I do not need but it is part of the package. Thoughts?
A level 2 charger which runs off a 240v outlet charges most of these things in 8 hours. The expensive level 3 chargers that you have installed do it much faster, but if all you need is overnight you don't need anything special.
The slow charging was likely due to the temperature. I saw 6C on the dash at one point. There may not have been anything wrong with the EA chargers. You saw the max charging speed in your session after the battery temperature increased a little. My Kona charges at a max rate of 77kW in the summer, but in the winter, often starts at 24kW, and climbs to around 45kW after the battery warms up.
They also need to improve the infrastructure in apartment garages via incentives to retrofit older buildings and by making chargers in every parking spot mandatory in new builds (including houses). If the gov't is going to ban sales of ICE cars in the future, where the heck are the millions of people who live in apartments going to charge their car? We're going to be fighting each other at the stations (the ones that work, anyways). They need to get ahead of this pronto.
Don't use the DC fast charging network like gas stations... the charging infrastructure size and reliability just isn't there yet, its early days... charge on L2 at home, if you can't, don't buy an EV right now. DCFC should be for roadtrips outside your home city only.
@@TheStraightPipes yep i get it, i'm just stating that for potential new EV buyers who think (or are lead to believe by their salesperson) that its as simple as gassing up like they've done for their whole life, like the Polestar guy. I've been driving a short-range EV (i3s) across Ontario from London since 2019 and have not been stranded at a DCFC yet, just need to pre-plan ones trip and always choose locations that are reliable based on Plugshare and locations that have another nearby DCFC in case your first choice is dead/blocked/in-use. EV's are not for the masses yet.
Skip the ID4? Lol it’s literally the same car except for a nicer interior, and it costs like $12-15k more than the ID4. If you can live with the ID4’s interior, just get that and save the $$$…
@@avis1978Nope. I’d buy the Q4 over a GV60, the GV60 is ugly and the dealer network is god awful compared to Audi’s, the GV60’s quality is pretty good but not as good as the Audi’s. The ID.4 is also a better value proposition than any of the Korean EVs and once again has a better dealer network. Teslas have good software and powertrains but the rest seems like an after thought.
I’m sorry but that amount of hate for the ID.4 is unwarranted. It is by far not the “worst car ever”. It’s a good EV, good range, charges fast, drives smaller than it is, comfortable. It’s also considerably cheaper than the competition, even compared with the cheaper IONIQ 5, it’s still less expensive, has more power and standard features. Along with being cheaper, it charges better than the Mach-E, has more room cargo room than the IONIQ 5 and a lot more than the EV6, can tow more than all of those, has the cheapest AWD model, most ground clearance, etc. Just because it has some stupid infotainment controls and bad software (it has been updated and is significantly better) doesn’t invalidate all of the things it does do well. I understand the criticisms you have with it, but it is most definitely better than what you’re acting like it is.
@@TheStraightPipes It really isn’t. Talk to all the owners that enjoy theirs. Acting like a car like the ID.4 is “the worst car you’ve ever driven” makes me honestly question how reliable you are as reviewers, there are plenty of worse EVs and cars in general out there. Like I said, the infotainment sucks, but they updated the software on newer models which helps a lot and having a mediocre infotainment system does not ruin an entire car.
Guys, PLEASE keep calling out these Canadian EV charging companies! As an EV owner, I want them to feel shamed into providing better service. Seems to work with the Out of Spec channel in the US. I haven't had that many issues like you guys have, but it needs to get better.
VWG and Hyundai/Kia and maybe others have these regen adjust paddles. I haven't used it but my inclination is that I'd hate this. It's too fiddly. Much prefer regen to be handled via a dedicated setting or just tied to the drive mode, and I'd prefer a standalone 1pd toggle. Set and forget.
I use the paddles ALL the time. Regen in the city, sailing on side roads and the motorway. I love it, I hated you couldnt turn off regen when I test drove a Tesla.
@@hkad6252 Everyone's different I guess. I'd find it annoying I think. I haven't turned off 1PD since I turned it on, even though in my car it's just a toggle. Even on winding roads I keep it on and just use the throttle pedal to control the car's oversteer/understeer. Works pretty intuitively for me.
@@hkad6252 True, but regen is important for efficiency, and I was under the impression that you had to use the paddles to get the car to regen, as VWs (I think) don't offer a 1PD setting. Maybe I don't have that right; if I'm wrong please educate me.
@@MLHunt All VWs also have B „gear“, which switches between max regen and sailing. So not a menu setting but with the gear lever instead. Also every EV in the world except Tesla has brake blending, which just applies regen when you press the brakes. When pressed harder and max regen is reached the friction brakes are added. I have no idea why Tesla does not do that. Saving costs? So no, you dont need the steering wheel paddles to regen, just use the regular brake pedal.
You probably didn’t get a good charging session because the battery was too cold. Unfortunately you didn’t talk about charging pre-conditioning but it seems it does not have it. You should have drove it a bit harder to warm up the battery then plug in the charger. This should yield better charging sessions.
I had drive this Q4 and the regular E-tron and i Found that this one feel HEAVIER on the steering... i don't know if it's because of the air suspension on the regular E-tron VS the suspension of the Q4... my only concern was the low capacity of towing with that model and i found the interior too small... i'll wish that someday we get a Q5 eletric instead... because the size of it, fit more my need...

I love electric cars and even bought a 2016 E-Golf that had a range of 82 miles. We could never find a working charger and had nothing but anxiety. Until we have more chargers and charge that actually work, I pollute again.
Has anyone figured out WHY these chargers have such a high failure rate? *CERTAIN* networks are reliable and maintained. Feels like these chargers are set up by the same type of contractors who pave public roads: overcharge, do a rush job right before the deadline, use less material so that it'll need to be redone in half the time it is supposed to, and have a very loose definition of "smooth"
I really don't want to be that guy to say "Just buy a Tesla", but.... I never had any charging issues at all with my Model 3. Charging on the superchargers is an absolutely seamless and very convenient experience. I really don't know why anybody who buys an electric car would buy a non-tesla and go through this hassle with hundreds of separate apps and accounts and broken unmaintained chargers. I don't understand how these luxury brands are not embarrassed to offer such a bad charging experience. It is pathetic really. I am not a Tesla fanboy and would actually really like to get something different next time but this charging hassle is keeping me with Tesla.
Tesla is not a viable option in Canada at the moment. A base model Y starts at 85k vs something like an ioniq that is in the 30-40k range, or this Audi that is in the 60k range. The supercharger network is way better, but it's a hard sell for a 25k premium. Especially when 99% of your charging with a BEV should be done at home.
@@shaneb9160 That of course makes sense. Where I am Tesla is not much more expensive than the competition. The Audi and the Ioniq 5 are even a bit more expensive than a Model Y.
This really shows the strength of Tesla. It isn’t really about the cars itself now. Yes the Tesla’s cars are cool but their supercharger network is still the biggest strength. There are cooler EVs out there now but unless you are lucky and are in NA which is adapting the Tesla connector, you will be stuck using CCS stations which can be great at 350Kwh or terrible at straight up broken.
out of the MEB SUV's - get the Enyaq - it rivals the audi in terms of build quality, interior style and ambience, has more space, is more efficient, and looks better (which is pretty subjective)
Love your videos, but I must say that the charging infrastructure issues you complain about is not an issue everywhere. The reason that American car reviewers don’t whine about Canada’s crappy charging infrastructure is that Canada’s crappy charging infrastructure is way, way, way worse than America’s charging infrastructure. Canada and USA are 2 different countries, and our charging infrastructure is way better.
because no one buys electric unless your a millionaire and if your that rich who cares you charge at your 13 mansions
Look at the owner forms. It’s not good.
Quebec is a different planet for ev
vive le Québec, osti!
That's very interesting. I've always heard that Ontario is so much better than QC. I guess not in EV charging.
Try Manitoba for more suffering.
It is super heavy so it doesn't feel as nimble as other German cars but it is still very comfortable.
it’s ugly AF
A lot of reviewers compare the Q4 to the original. I have an e-tron 55 2022 (just before they announced the q8 facelift) and the driving difference between the Q4 and the original e-tron is massive. The air suspension alone is night and day. The interior quality is also completely different. There's so much hard plastic in the q4 vs the original e-tron. Heck people don't talk about how capable the original e-tron is off-road. Like - I can take it everywhere my Land Rover Discovery could go.
I like that you guys speak about charging problems
- EVs are big decisions.. cool to have the good and ALL the bad in the vids
Always
Good n bad sides to an EV still bad for environment just not as bad as diesel or gss/petrol
The US doesn't get matrix LED headlights sadly, due to the outdated road rules.
I’ve driven the ID4 I thought it was a pretty nice experience tbh plus the turning radius was insane
@@crisheath7498 I just wish west Canada had an nba team (and I guess more charging stations lol)
I think it's a nice looking car. Far better than new BMW models. I think it's a handsome svelt car that is understated in it's "EV-ness"
The Straight Pipes should start their own charging network in Canada.
Lots of hate for the ID.4 (my friend loves his) and electric charging in general. I have a Mini Cooper SE and a level 2 charger at home. Fast (enough) charging is not a problem. I've also had better luck than you with public chargers (EV-go in the US).
The amount of hate of the ID.4 from some journalists is ridiculous. It’s a good EV, everyone I talk to that has one loves it.
Sorry to hear you guys continue to have issues with charging infrastructure. Here in California I've having zero issues charging my i4 M50 at Electrify America
@1:11 the bar on ID4 is set so low that basically anything else is better, wow 🤣🤣🤣 I like these guys
Always honest 🤷♂️
@TheStraightPipes A year out of date honest.
I use my frunk all the time on my R1T. I think the powered hood is definitely the barrier to using the frunk.
Personally would go for a Skoda Eniaq if I had to choose a model from the MEB platform
No Skodas in the Americas unfortunately. We can only dream…
I love the design, makes me think about the a2 if it looked good.
LOVE THE SHOW GUYS👏👏👏 YOUR PRODUCTIONS ARE ALWAYS A JOY TO WATCH 🙏🙏🙏...HAVE A BEAUTIFUL DAY EVERYONE ✌️
I don’t own an EV but I am curious about the day 2 day of owning. This is the best video I have seen so far on just what it is like.
Watch all our ev reviews. Mach E etc
Thanks for continuing to show these problems!
if all the car companies just come together and work, they can all sell significantly more cars. relying on 3rd party sucks
None of these issues exist with Tesla Superchargers.
obviously that depends on the country and the cars; EV work just fine in Norway ... more than 90% (!!!) of all new registered cars are all electric, not even counting hybrid electric ones.
Damn charging in Canada sounds frustrating af
In Ontario. Elsewhere it’s actually really good ! 😊
It would be nice to have a little cubby to store your L2 cable under the hood though.
a frunk is literally an empty engine space lol
I always thought frunks are a result of bad design. Empty space under the hood could be used for more space for people or cargo inside the cabin.
That engine sounded epic!

I haven’t seen one of these driving around Aiken/Augusta GA. I see every new car because I’m always looking.
Id4! For some reason felt way better than the Audi🤷🏻♂️
Should I get this or a Kia Soul?
Best charging experience period is level 2 charging at home while you sleep. I have ID4 AWD and it has the same power as the Q4 e-tron AWD.
I use my frunk and it stores my tools, snow brush, air compressor, charging cables.. that way my trunk can be used for anything else.. vehicle related supplies go in the frunk.. I know quite a lot that love using it.. as for our charging infrastructure it does need to be improved.. we need more gas stations to be involved to start converting some spots for EVs and possibly reduce their gas pumps as the switch in vehicles continue.
not sure why u saying it looks better than an ID.4 the shape is exactly like an ID.4 just with a different grill
When I drove a PS2 for a while the fronk was perfect for leftovers from restaurants. I never eat them, for starters, and I never smelled them in my car! It was perfect.
Use plugshare as it's open sourcing charger issues so you can see the last time someone used the charger and how it went.

Nice video. I just can't get down with coupe SUVs but I'd like to get a hold of one of these and review myself!
I originally ordered the regular SUV despite my dislike of these cars. Too big and I dislike driving behind them. They block the view. So I changed my order to the sport. It seems to have a lower profile and everything else the same. Still waiting. Originally made a contract Jan 2021!

I never thought of a charging station not functioning..great point
In the US they have a $950 black optic plus package. I want this for the flat bottom/top steering wheel and the sport front seats. Downside is I do not prefer black interior. Too hot in the summer and it shows dirt more readily. I want the parchment, but the sport front seats only come in black. Sport seats are supposed to be superior. The brushed dark aluminum inlay and black exterior elements I do not need but it is part of the package. Thoughts?
Wow the chargers in your area suck. Here in my town of 40k people there’s over 20 fast chargers
Tax credit for installing a home charger would help.
Plug in a night, full tank in the morning.
A level 2 charger which runs off a 240v outlet charges most of these things in 8 hours. The expensive level 3 chargers that you have installed do it much faster, but if all you need is overnight you don't need anything special.
Every single automaker needs to adopt NACS for charging asap.
Yessuh 💪🏾🚀 love the content y’all keep it comin
Yes. And we are showing the nightmare potential for those road trips
@@avis1978Nope. I’d buy the Q4 over a GV60, the GV60 is ugly and the dealer network is god awful compared to Audi’s, the GV60’s quality is pretty good but not as good as the Audi’s.
No, it’s terrible
@@TheStraightPipes It really isn’t. Talk to all the owners that enjoy theirs. Acting like a car like the ID.4 is “the worst car you’ve ever driven” makes me honestly question how reliable you are as reviewers, there are plenty of worse EVs and cars in general out there.
@@MLHunt well no one forces you to use paddles if you have them.
Does the Q4 front end look like a GMC Terrain Denali to anyone else?
You probably didn’t get a good charging session because the battery was too cold. Unfortunately you didn’t talk about charging pre-conditioning but it seems it does not have it. You should have drove it a bit harder to warm up the battery then plug in the charger. This should yield better charging sessions.
Hope electric cars go down to regular car prices eventually, seams really nice but still more inconvenient and expensive than a Q3 or Q5

@@joesmith9216 My polluting what the huh?
Awesome video! would you guys be able to review the new Mercedes EQB 350?
Has anyone figured out WHY these chargers have such a high failure rate? *CERTAIN* networks are reliable and maintained.
Feels like these chargers are set up by the same type of contractors who pave public roads: overcharge, do a rush job right before the deadline, use less material so that it'll need to be redone in half the time it is supposed to, and have a very loose definition of "smooth"
My neighbor has a electric Audi loves it but says the battery drops to 60 percent with ac and he can’t drive it far so there’s barely any chargers
I don’t see what’s so special about this car
the only people who complain about no frunks are non ev drivers owners
Is it as good as a Bolt?
You can't really compare a luxury car to a regular car... apples and oranges.
@@JustMe99999 yes you can this is a car with similar features and lacking some one just costs less.
Audi makes great looking EV vehicles maybe the best looking
Ford isn't bad. Activate, plug and charge using the Ford app on at least a couple of networks.
If y’all helped get rid of the capacitive touch buttons on VW’s, can y’all do the same for that stupid push button shifter on Hondas?
I feel like this was more of an ID4 slander video than a car review 😂
Most of the ID.4 slander is unnecessary too. It’s a nice car.
Slander means they're lying.
You might mean "slamming" which means to insult(?)
Try the Nissan Ariya too. Better quality and reliability and thousands of service centers if you ever have a problem.
This really shows the strength of Tesla. It isn’t really about the cars itself now. Yes the Tesla’s cars are cool but their supercharger network is still the biggest strength. There are cooler EVs out there now but unless you are lucky and are in NA which is adapting the Tesla connector, you will be stuck using CCS stations which can be great at 350Kwh or terrible at straight up broken.
bro that intro song really slapped
out of the MEB SUV's - get the Enyaq - it rivals the audi in terms of build quality, interior style and ambience, has more space, is more efficient, and looks better (which is pretty subjective)
Send the Enyaq Canadian link
Anyone that watch the first 4 min can understand 1 of the main reasons Tesla will keep kicking ass in EV cars for a couple more years.
Love your videos, but I must say that the charging infrastructure issues you complain about is not an issue everywhere. It might be an issue in Canada and some states in the US, but I live in Southern California and it is not a problem at all for me. I own a 2022 Mustang Mach E GT Perf and I charge at public charging stations 100% of the time. For sure, gassing up an ICE vehicle is a heck of a lot easier than charging an EV even in LA. But its totally not as bad everywhere as it seems to be from your videos where you live. I think it is important, though, that you talk about the problem so that your viewers know to consider that issue and their community when purchasing a lot of the awesome EVs that are on and coming to market these days.
Looks great, but the charging hassle is NOT FOR ME!!
Is there an AM/FM radio?
My 2019 Nissan Leaf charges about the same speed as this Q4.
EEEE-xcellent Video.
