I have served beside Gurkhas. They are the finest troops. Brave, dedicted, honourable and loyal to the extreme. I am glad they were on my side...!! They deserve better from the UK government. They deserve citizenship.
If you are willing to put your life on the line for a country, yes you deserve citizenship. Look at the fact that so many native- born citizens don't want to step up to defend their own, then how many immigrants are granted citizenship without doing anything to serve their new Home.
As much as it pains me to say it - but the French have the concept of "French by spilled blood" - whereby if you fight for France and are injured - you are automatically granted french citizenship.
As far as I'm concerned volunteering to fight for my country automatically makes them British and the UK their home. To think we use to not give them citizenship is disgraceful.
During WW2 my father was attached to a Gurkha brigade in Burma, he described them as utterly fearless and was so thankful that they were on our side. He also kept a kukri as a memento from those times.

After 31 years in the Military, I can attest that the rulers and measurements are definitely a part of bootcamp. A soldier works tirelessly to perfect their kit. Ur Mom the original settlers of the British Isles were the Celts. The majority of British people today are directly descended from these original settlers who arrived in Britain 7000-8000 years ago via a land bridge. It is likely they were here even before that as the figure 8000 years ago comes from simple tools found in multiple dig sites across Britain. Even in England a country considered to be Germanic, the majority of the genetic markers in the English peoples DNA is actually from these original settlers only around a third of the English DNA is from the Anglo Saxons the normans and the Vikings had absolutely no impact on the genetic make up of the English. In other words the British have been in Britain longer than the Japanese have been in Japan and even longer by some 5000 years than the Maori have been in New Zealand they are entirely native to the British isles and there genetic make up is completely unique and not replicated in any other ethnic group even among similar groups such as other Europeans.
@wearealltubes lots of modern "scientific" experiments regarding genialogy, sexuality, and psychology are complete bunk with political motivations.
