George Lynch is one of my favorite guitarists. Dokken had a lot of awesome songs Heaven Sent, Dream Warriors, Breaking the Chains, Alone Again and many more.
This band was never given their proper place in the 80's as they should have been in my opinion. Still listen to them all the time! Thank you for doing my era of the 80's and appreciating it as you do, it is much appreciated! I need to go put some vinyl on the turntable now, keep enjoying!
Very underrated if they could have stayed together and not split up for about six years their next album would have out them rite up their with all your big name bands although I think they deserve to have already been their love dokken even their new stuff
Have a picture of the drummer on my wall to this day. I blew it up. They were filming a video down in New O back in the late 80s. He came out n we all took a picture together. Cool moment in time. It's been on my wall every since.
Fun fact : the guitar player , George Lynch was in a band called Street Boyz. Gene Simmons from KISS was going to check them out at a club in L.A. . The opening band was a then unknown Van Halen. Simmons caught Van Halens set and was so impressed he offered to help them make a demo tape. Ironiclly he didn't stick around to hear Lynch's band. The rest as they say is history.
The secret to the hair? Bend over at the waist so your hair is hanging down, and hit it with 2 cans of Aqua Net. I wish I had bought stock in Aqua Net in the 80s (then sold it immediately when Nirvana released Nevermind). Don was one of the best singers of the era. Don and Jeff were a great vocal team. This band had it all and kind of messed it up. Another big ego band that couldn't get along. Good catalog. Great live shows back in the day. Breaking The Chains, Alone Again, and Too High To Fly are good songs.
DOKKEN has a lot of interesting musical footnotes attached to them. They were in Los Angeles in the late 70s before the whole radio metal thing really blew up, so they were kind of it ground level. There guitarist George Lynch auditioned for Ozzy more than once I believe and apparently was accepted as the official replacement for Randy Rhoads after his passing, but for some reason it went downhill and Ozzy ended up getting Jake Ely instead. Don himself sing background vocals on the classic Scorpions album "Blackout", as cloe) with havin vocal problems with the time. The first version of docking recorded a record in Germany and released it over there before hitting the state, and that band featured the bassist who's going to be in rat. The drummer Mick is from around here, Auburn California. And as a matter of fact right after this Aerosmith tour they did I got to jam with him in his parents garage, on his younger brothers drum kit I was friends with his younger brother and he invited me out to meet him when I was in high school. Real nice guy, first rockstar I think I ever met, and he was all sunglasses and Doritos and Light beer for breakfast, so of course we were a little bit in awe. But he was a good dude. Doc and wrote some really radio-friendly metal in their day and they were great musicians, the shame they couldn't keep it together better than they did although they have still released a pretty impressive body of work years after their first break up.
Thats right and around the time when lynch auditioned for ozzy, jake e lee was playing in ratt. When he joined ozzy he told warren demartini to join ratt.
I got to know the Dokken guys after they refomed in the 90's, they were always a great band and also pretty cool guys. George is playing with plenty of people, Don is still plugging along, Mick has retired and Jeff is now playing with Foreigner. It's called a "Drum Cage" and they used Aqua Net Pink Superhold on their hair.
So this band had a video…it showed that awesome TAMA cage drumset on a flatbed truck driving thru the streets….I saved my money and bought the first TAMA cage in Phoenix! Still have it today….I could not resist after seeing this glorious drumset😆
Always rocking with dokken got to love big hair and leather pants 80s was all about fun and no auto tune kick ass band 80s music rules today's music sucks
I can tell you how to do the hair because it is how I wore mine back then. Blow it dry, then scrunch hair mousse all through it. Then take a round styling brush and roll sections of hair one at a time. Spray those sections with hairspray while still in the brush. Then blow dry the sections while hairspray is still wet. Gently remove the round brush from the hair. Do all that one three-inch section of hair at a time. Blow-drying the hairspray will freeze the style into place. If you don't blow-dry the hairspray, the hair will fall limp despite the hairspray. The blow -dryer does the magic. After all that, go over the entire hair with hairspray. No need to do more blow-drying. It was the epitome of hair fashion back in the eighties. A lot of people laugh about it today, but it was the height of "cool" hair back then. Plus, that windblown look brought out a beautiful face into prominence. It showed more of the face, with the hair brushed back from it. Check out the Heart video called "These Dreams," with the blonde Nancy Wilson singing the lead vocals. Focus on her hair and you will see what I'm talking about.
Dokken was awesome, for another killer track, try Too High to Fly, it flat out rocks out. They were excellent both time I saw them, Don Dokken is very underrated. They are NOT Hair Metal but a legitimate 80s hard rock/metal hybrid who had real chops and some damn fine songs. They were even great when George Lynch bolted for awhile and Reb Beach kept the flame going. Enjoy! 🎵🎸🎤🎹🎶
The best band in hard rock to come out of the 80s they maybe were not the biggest band but the most talented musicians absolutely love all their albums and they are still making new music today ROKKEN with Dokken
“Look at them pay-ants!” Lol, you guys never fail to entertain. I actually get just as much enjoyment from you guys as I do whatever you are reacting to - sometimes more. Back then, we used to call the apparatus the drums are attached to, a “cage.” The drummer and bass player had funny personalities. Sadly, I think the singer has been having terrible difficulties with his voice. The guitarist is still a monster.
I'm sorry to correct you ,Cuteness. That hair isn't teased, it's downright pi$$ed off. I personally think the amount of hair spray these bands used significantly contributed to the hole in the ozone layer.
@@epnlvr9790 I agree. I saw them around the same time when they were opening up for Aerosmith. Unfortunately they were turned down so much being an opening act. I would have loved to see them as a main act.
The only song of theirs I'm familiar with is Dream Warriors, and that's only because it was featured in the end credits of A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors and the VHS tape had a music video with Freddy Krueger joining them lol!
The younger generation has no idea what good music is. I'm glad to see young people watch these old videos just to get a sense of what it was like back then. But it's nothing like being there and experiencing the music first hand. 🤘🤘🤘🤘
Amazing band and vocals. Don Dokken was one of the best singers of the time and George Lynch on guitar was looked at by many as the best around. Then Jeff Pilson on bass and backing vocals and Wild Mick Brown on drums and backing vocals, the band Dokken was pretty hard to beat and my favorite. The band imploded at the peak of their popularity and while selling millions of records, due to big egos and in-fighting. They were ready to sign a new record contract for Motley Crue kind of money and the band broke up instead. Their record company could not talk them into staying together.
Great band great performance, only odd thing about this live version is when the chorus comes in, they have some sort of layered vocal effect added. I don’t know why they decided to do it, as all the other songs they did live on that night didn’t have any effects. Maybe they were trying to replicate the studio version too much.
Clicked on this just because it said dokken... Then immediately thought why do I give a crap what these 2 are think.. They are Probably wonderful people.. But looks like they weren't even born when docking toured the stadiums. .
Lots of aqua net to get the big hair dokken beyond awesome band better than motley clowns 🤡 George Lynch beyond awesome guitar player 🎸💯💯 Jeff pilson beyoy awesome Bass player 🎸🎸🤘 and don dokken beyond awesome Singer 🎤🎤🎤 and mad max Mick Brown killer drummer 🥁! I saw this tour back in 87 i was 20 years old 🎸🤘🤘 and saw them again in 88 @ the monsters of Rock 🤘🤘🤘 those were the days 💯🤘🤘🤘
The reason they weren't as successful as bands like Bon Jovi is because of their guitar player, George Lynch. He's what set them apart from being just another fluffy hair band.
George Lynch is one of my favorite guitarists. Dokken had a lot of awesome songs Heaven Sent, Dream Warriors, Breaking the Chains, Alone Again and many more.
Absolutely! Mine as well, not given enough dues or respect back then but I am still addicted to them...have a great one!
This band was never given their proper place in the 80's as they should have been in my opinion. Still listen to them all the time! Thank you for doing my era of the 80's and appreciating it as you do, it is much appreciated! I need to go put some vinyl on the turntable now, keep enjoying!
A phenomenal concert - its version of "When The Lightning Strikes" is mind-blowing
this!
In my opinion, Dokken just might be the best hair metal band that were so underrated
#1 in my space
Very underrated if they could have stayed together and not split up for about six years their next album would have out them rite up their with all your big name bands although I think they deserve to have already been their love dokken even their new stuff
Meh
Man.....I was so into Dokken in the late 1980's!!!! I went to your play list, and there it was...some Dokken!!!!
Dokken is an AMAZING band!
Dokken was simply killer!
You guys would have loved the 80's...so much great music in that 10 year period and the concerts were unreal!!!

Mr. Scary himself, George Lynch. Randy Rhoads gave him that nickname.
It's Not Love from that same show in Philly 87 is great also . The official video from the streets of L.A. on back of truck is cool ,also
Now that one is my fave. All time.✌️

Have probably mentioned previously, but absolutely love the intro music. Effing solid 🤘
Lynch is one bad assed guitarist! Check his work in Lynch Mob
Yes, my favourite Hair Guitar band! Thanks and ❤ from Canada.
Great song and reaction. The 80's truly were the best times.
Los vi en directo junto a Kingdom Come en los 80's y fue un gran concierto
Always rocking with dokken got to love big hair and leather pants 80s was all about fun and no auto tune kick ass band 80s music rules today's music sucks
A very great band .
The drum cage I think is what your looking for lol George lynch has had several solo projects lynch mob,lynch/sweet,and kxm a super group
I’ve seen Dokken 16 times over the past 38 years. Dokken and Ratt were the two tightest bands from the 80s.
Now George is such a great guitarist, the whole band is fantastic
Great band. Excellent musicans..!
dokken is my fav band of this genre - keep it coming
Another amazing band seen. It was just a pain to try to record this during radio play. Welcome to the late 80’s

drums are on a Tama Power Tower Rack also called "A Cage"

Yeah Don's voice is terrible now.
Dokken are just superb🤘
Forever rokken with Dokken! 🤘🔥😍

I was at that show at the Spectrum Awesome!!!

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
This is the history of metal ahah 🤟🧚♀️
George's solo was not as tight as it could have been. Definitely need to hear the studio version to really appreciate the song!
🔥🎸🔥
true but the mixing in this show is way rawer than the studio version
@@epnlvr9790 I agree. I saw them around the same time when they were opening up for Aerosmith. Unfortunately they were turned down so much being an opening act. I would have loved to see them as a main act.
Come on, Lynch is amazing and they are only opening, not given half the respect they deserved.
@@Triumph-nz8pt Triumph is a great band also. Unfortunately I missed seeing them "live"...
I dont trust people who say don dokken in the 80s was ugly, btw im dokken’s biggest fan and im 13!
The only song of theirs I'm familiar with is Dream Warriors, and that's only because it was featured in the end credits of A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors and the VHS tape had a music video with Freddy Krueger joining them lol!
Must do INTO THE FIRE...
Mick Brown is surrounded by a drum cage. 🤘😌
It's called teasing and Aqua Net

Bought the album Breaking the Chains when I was 14 in 1982. Was their best album IMO
Listen to “Paris is Burning”, the intro w/George Lynch is so amazing!
Lots of Aqua-Net hairspray back then.
“Great job”……”Thank you!!!”
Donnie Dokken was a killer vocalist💪
They were opening for Judas Priest here. Saw the show 2 nights before in Jersey
Ladies and gentlemen, please, welcome George Lynch on guitars
Brings back memories
The lead guitar player is MR. LYNCH. DAVID LYNCH I BELIEVE.
Jeff Pilson is now the bassist of Foreigner
Aquanet. Bands bought it by the case.
Just...awesome. Dokken is one of my favorites. Have you checked out THE HUNTER, FELONY, YOUNG GIRLS, BULLETS TO SPARE?

That is a drum cage (2 level drum rack)

Love dokken
Studio Version I prefer. IMO. Because of the vocals.
GeorgeLyncH 🔥🔥🔥
Dokken, La Guns, Tesla and Ratt are the best 80s bands by far. Motley blows, the NJ guys blow.
You need to react to the cover version of this song by the music group, The Party
Lynch's guitar tone was the shit.
Prime time Dokken was great Kiss of Death is awesome too
Dokken in their prime.
I want to hear Mercyful Fate, Princess from Hell!
Do you mean the drum riser? Or the drum kit itself? @5:40
The drummer is in a cage setup
Do you mean the drum riser? @5:40

The reason they weren't as successful as bands like Bon Jovi is because of their guitar player, George Lynch. He's what set them apart from being just another fluffy hair band.
Hair metal
Dokken Was Way Better Than Motley.
Just Sayn !!!
I agree 100%
I hated Dokken so much I paid see them 12 times 😂😂😂 best band ever
you lost me with "hair bands"
Geez his vocals are awful here...he's a great vocalist though. Try the studio version or another live.
