The M50i with that N63 engine sounds dirty and angry whereas the M60i with that S68 engine sounds like someone has put some cotton wool in that exhaust system. Still I love both of them very much, good daily driver cars with enough power that you need. 530PS(390kW) and 750nm of torque.
I definitely agree however, after driving the M60i this past weekend sheesh what a nice sound when you change gears, not as loud though, but still insane
@@JustinOnCarsdo you still think the sound is adequate ? I was really interested in the m60 but all the exhaust notes ive heard have been disappointing. ( coming from a 2021 m550)
Hi Timothy - Thank you very much for your Comment. I truly believe that the way things are moving forward and sound in cars getting pushed more and more through the speakers i honestly do not think that the performance and the drive should be left out. This car still sounds insane when driving and pulling away etc. Just not as loud as the previous Gen, but such a smoother car and so much more refined at the end of the day just the total experience if that makes sense? Look I am crazy about a Loud car, but I am also a drivers person and these BMW's never disappoints and always improves. @@timothyho2081
M60 is a smoother drive with the 48v Hybrid battery, but the sound on M50 is Insane beautiful compare to the M60. M60 while driving sounds Great though then it has that M sound which is very nice as it is the S68 engine
This is not where the difference lies. It’s in the technology which in the 50 is analogue as it should be for basic functions. In the new model you need to go into your menu to adjust the climate in your car while doing 70 mph .
Very true, but that is the same for all new BMW's though. with the X5 M Performance the main difference is the technology in engine etc, but for the tech inside you definitely right with iDrive 8/8.5 and soon 9 the big difference is in the iDrive. remember even with analogue you still needed to press a button to adjust climate now you just press a button on the screen which is in reach anyway and in eye sight while driving.
Hi there, tha nks a Mil for the comment. Where are you based? Yeah a lot of people do not like the new screen actually - i know all car manufacturers are going to have to change soon enough due to safety etc.
You and a lot of other people too. I just finished buying a cpo 23 m50. Hard to come by, only 1 within 200 miles of my location that was a 23 with 10k miles as of today.
I was considering that until you realize that the 60i offers nothing more than just a facelift and makeup. Sure you get a “M” S motor but out the box the 50i is a more overall idea of what an M car should be, similar to how the 760i is. The N63 makes the new S motor sound like it went woke, and also is a better build motor. I could go into a tirade of explaining why. I’ve driven a 60i for a week and I didn’t get a good result. It just fell flat because of how it sounded first off. I wasn’t a fan of the facelift for the reason of the headlights and taillights, the stiff ride for it being a M-lite, and again; the car sounded like shit. I’m not paying $100K again for something that sounds worse the a X5 50i from 2016-17, and is basically marketed for that category. BMW went backwards to me with the new m60 in my honest option. I was gonna pull a trigger and buy a new m60i but then I realized that I have a 50i and I picked up a 22 X5MC for less then a brand new 60i, with less then 15k miles. Both cars being within the same price range of picking up new stock x5s all together and maybe add an extra few steps. This is coming from someone that got rid of his e46 pre face lift for a newer zhp. Only to sell that a buy a pre face lift m3. My word of advice is to keep your 50i or trade it for a X5M/C or just not even get rid of it. The 60i is truly a M-lite because it falls flat. Sounds like shit, looks ugly bmw wise and is now trying to be the X5M but isn’t… Trading a m50i to a m60i is just blowing an extra 20-30 grand and your picking up a car that falls flat out wrong. If your profile picture matches who you are: go ahead and blow 30k or you could just take that money and put it into a X5M. He’ll sell your 50i and just get a M.
@@Froggy1000 Hi Froggy1000 thank you very much for the in-depth comment, I really enjoyed reading your comment and it makes so much sense to me. I would Much rather go for the X5MC to be honest with you. I also feel that the M lite has become a very soft part for BMW and it kind of ruins the whole M experience and I do not like that, The M340i is the only one that actually makes sense to me as the M340i and M3 are worlds apart and that is fine, but still having the M lite badge is a no no for me. I am a true M fanatic and will always stick to an M car even if it is a pre-Gen compare to an M-lite. So I 100% agree with you there. Even the X5 should just have the 50 badge on it not have an M-Perfomance badge as it is not an M it is just the highest spec in the X5 and then you should get an M. BMW hurt the brand with that move in my honesty.
@ 100% agree with everything you said. Having owned many bimmers; I love the M50i but it’s no X5MC. Nor is the M60i. But trading in a m50i for a 60i in my opinion is a step back. We’re talking generations that are the same; just facelift. BMW made it so that people who wanted a X5M could get something like that, but called it the m50i or m60i. I like to compare it in differences by the e90s. You can get a E90 335i but it’s not a E90 M3. BMW changed to make a medium. If they did this 12 years ago you’d have a E90 with a weird abomination. This would directly undercut the E90 M3 sales as everyone would want the cooler 335i 4 door sedan.
It is unfortunate with all the rules and regulations with noise etc. The Car just got better, but the sound is more quiet yes, but when driving it kicks in a Bit then you hear that V8
M50i sounds so good
M50i nice rumble 😮 ✅️
I 100% agree on that
N63 v8 ❤
S68 sounds like i6 😢
How to change please....
Hahaha only after Motorplan you can change, but standing with the car makes a massive difference let me tell you.
I have the F15 X5 xDrive35i with M Performance exhaust, for 6 cylinder is sounds pretty good
I Can just imagine I have never had the opportunity to test drive the 35i X5, Must be a dream

The new interiors are a joke. No buttons. Hate it. Love the exterior and engine but the interior is hideous and hard to use

M50i but its just abit too loud but definitely sounds better

I have a m50i with downpipes and resonator delete. I barely drive it because I don't want to upset the neighbors with the cold start.
