I don't see it that way. If Billy didn't have this problem most people wouldn't go through this trouble. It's sad but it's the truth. I still have both of my legs, but I can't imagine how hard it is to look at other people doing the thing you love while you can't do it no matter how much you want to. He has to live these emotions through other people, it's not easy.

This is why im so amazed with Billy - loosing a part of your body is not easy mentally nor physically - and i remember when they told me that i burned 70% more energy a step, and i only lost one leg - Billy is on another level.

I also thought it was cute that his dog was trying to be sympathetic by limping too. I don’t like how some people think just because you’re disabled that means you’re unable to live a fulfilling life. A girl named Brooke Ellison became a quadriplegic at 11 years old. She successfully graduated high school and went on to Harvard and graduated with amazing grades. I’m so glad he was able to race again.

As an amputee of 10 years (left leg above the knee) at the age of 64, I find this young man to be an inspiration to anyone in this position. I was very positive in my attitude and was walking again within 6 months due to two wonderful young ladies. But unfortunately I was then under a person who took no notice of things that caused me problems. I persevered for almost 5 years. After a number of bad falls due to poor fitting, that caused me to not be able to support myself standing. I packed up the leg and told them where to stick it. I have been confined to a chair and gopher since then. I am still positive have settled into a comfortable life.
I live independently in a seniors village in my own unit. I have a routine where I get out every day on my gopher and travel 25 to 30 Km. I am very independent and enjoy my life.
    Cheers Mike from Adelaide S.A.

Or conversely, a prosthetic good enough to react correctly to foot peddles…I don’t know. The biggest problem is if the car is designed to accommodate him from the steering wheel, would it change his advantage with the other drivers…would FIA accept it? I don’t know. Billy, at the height of F125 shifter karting 1990-1999, here in America I contested all of the Southern California series having only one leg. I lost my left leg in a helicopter crash. I was working as a Hollywood Stuntman at the time. Of all the formulas I drove, F-Contential, F-Atlantic, it was driving shifters I found to be more brutal and technical to drive smooth and fast. As an amateur driver, I won 11 out of 12 races. as a Pro 3 out of 7. my first full year. After that, I moved to the longer tracks which Myself and my Teammate Gene Sigal dominated. As an amputee, the biggest issue I had was keeping my butt planted in the back of the seat under hard braking. I still had my right leg so I welded the master cylinder onto the right frame rail. As for a throttle Dave Miller at DMC Racing Anaheim, CA fabricated a paddle that covered the backside of my wheel from 9 to 6as if the wheel was a clock. It worked magnificently. Dave does master quality work. Billy, If you want to drive, seriously, that will to do so, can only come from a burning desire within you. As an amateur driver, I used a fold-up trailer and a Honda Accord to pull my kart to each race. 99% of the time I went all by myself. I had nobody to help me unload, set up the Easy-Up or to help me tune. I wanted to compete so bad I was there to learn. My motivation was my driving force. Billy, without the inner fire to succeed and win...to believe in yourself you will become frustrated and quit driving. But think about what you can accomplish with that energy put to good use. If you want to talk I can relate to what you are going through better than most. I am also a motor builder and have built 13 land speed records GP Bikes and contested Moto GP as a builder for John Hopkins.
If you need someone to help you make sense out of all you/we are going through and uplift the minds of other handicap individuals who want to race competitively here's my number, Steve Solo 949-391-0229 We can also start a school for handicapped individuals who want to learn how to drive competitively....to pay for our racing. You are lucky to have survived your crash, as was I. Perhaps we were both put on this earth to raise awareness showing amputees can compete and win against able-body people. Call me and let's change the world.!

June 24 2019 I met in an accident. A taxi driver did a U-turn and almost end my existence. Even up to this day I don't remember the accident happening at all. I woke up in the hospital feeling a lot of pain and I was trying to figure out if I fell off my bicycle or my motorcycle.when the visiting hours came I later found out what took place while I was heading back home on my motorcycle. I didn't know that three days had past and I can't remember anything that my family members said that I told them, they said that the first day when they came to see me I was saying that I need to pay my rent. I can't believe I could have died and all that was on my mind was to pay my rent which is due on the 25th of each month. I am much better now but my scars are very much visible and I've accepted that I have a few scars but I also have my life still.

Wow, I’m at a loss. This video just came up on my feed. I stopped watching most motor sports around 2016, except for Supercross, motocross and mx gp in Europe. I had no idea about you or your accident Billy. It seems that you are a rare breed young man. With the trauma you sustained, never allowing it to depress you or to deter you from your goals is just amazing. I’ve tried to raise my son to keep striving for his goals as well, no matter what obstacles are put in front of him. After watching this video with him, I see the expression on his face, and I feel he finally sees what overcoming adversity looks like. Thank you for this, your drive has touched another young mans life. Even though you probably would never meet, you have turned on something in my son that nothing can extinguish. God bless you for that.

i have a condition called Elhers Danlos Syndrom. its a condition that makes my whole body less strong, so muscles, skin en organs are a lot more weak than 'normal' people and that makes racing karts really hard because my energy level is very low(because of the less power in my muscles). But im racing in Rotax Senior class and i love it. i keep fighting every time i get on track to get better and better. I knew that this documantery was online but never wanted to look at it because i thougt i maybe get emotional. But now i watched it and never skipped a second, and yes i got emotional but jesus man, what a man you are. There is so much spirit in you. It motivates me so much to get everyting out of my, not only on the track, but also in life. There are so much lovely things you can do with a handicap but that doesnt make it less fun.
I wanted to say you're a huge inspitration to me as a racer but also as a person, and many others with me.
    cheers Billy and keep drivin!
