HI Oscar, have watched your videos at least 2 times each so far over last week or so.. I am not a musician per se, some guitar, some piano, amateur wanna be dj, all for fun. I am a photographer and graphic designer and my work is music to me because it has movement, light, dark, substance, feeling... .on and on. I put together a music studio bit by bit because I love all this stuff and all the books, videos, so called free tutorials.. good grief, basic confusion..Your method is concise, effective, meaningfull, FUN and realistic and it makes sense to me. I dont like talking bad about anyone but the gazillion videos on youtube "that are so so terrible just a waste of time.." (stop). Thank you for putting my faith back into something I had almost given up on. Please dont change..you are a great teacher..I will be signing up for your online classes, this morning in my jeep listening to great music...'It finally made sense- I listened, instead of being on the outside of the music I went inside the beat and it finally clicked in my brain like the natural click of my camera" (wow so much to learn).
Going from counting the beat to transcribing (dance music) is something I'd like to see more on. For example, once I learned about polyrhythms from your channel, I still have no idea how to approach counting them in a live track.
Hey galaxy! When you say transcribing do you mean in sheet music notation? It's important to note that the counting I describe above is assuming that you use 4/4 time (like most dance music). And then over that 4/4 time you would play a polymeter (polymeter is the more correct term for what I described in the polyrhythms video - check the Andrew Huang video to see the distinction in detail). Those polymeters could just be written as dotted notes or whatever is appropriate, as notes on the 4/4 grid. I'm not sure if this explanation was helpful 😁
It still amazes me how much our innate biological sense of time is measured at the most fundamental level by exposure to the heartbeat of our mother in the womb...and this simple connection to our origins drives the entire history of music.
Phrasing and dynamics would make a good video. It's hard to break away from thinking music is made up of 4 beats and dancers think of it as 8 beats. I'd like to hear how hairpins fit into techno which usually isn't all that dynamic.
probably a beginner question but since downbeats are always kinda put in the rhythm correlation by our brain, does that also apply to the upbeats? u showed that u can easily leave out every 2nd downbeat, but could you also leave out every 2nd upbeat for example?

This is one of the first thing I ever learned in music. Watched this for review. I love the way you explain these concepts
this is genious! I'm a dj and don't intend on making music (for now) but it's so helpful! thank you

Thanks a lot, good information.
Good stuff
Kick, hats and other percussion can go wild, if you have dancable tempo, backbeat snares, and kick on first downbeat. But I might be wrong here
I like your videos thank you
I love u bro.
Big like
💚
As useful as this is for producing, I'm gonna send this to sooooo many DJ mates that have mastered matching bars for not quite figured out phrases.

nvm u explained it at the end. But I guess that type is definetely more uncommon in any electronic genre
do you stream from time to time?
Not at the moment! Too much media creation already 😂
