There really is no replacement!! Nicko was one in a zillion and stands alone atop metal drummers! ❤

You're right, the biggest ones will be hard to replace. Big shoes will be hard to fill. 🙌🙌

I think he’s the best at counting in a song in a different tempo to the song itself. He’s unsurpassed at that.

they replaced him with a drummer Harris already worked with for years so its not like a total newcomer

He is not being replaced. He is still a member of the band. He is being replaced live because he is no longer touring, but he is still in the band.

Mad respect for Nicko McBrain. Best live drum sound I’ve ever heard. Incredible drummer. I hope he can keep himself busy and enjoy retirement. Life will be different now for sure. 🙏

Been a Maiden fan for nearly 40 years and I love them dearly. Having said that, I believe it might be time to call it a day. I watched part of Nicko's last gig in Sao Paulo and, to be honest, they look tired and just going through the motions... I get the same feeling with AC/DC, whom I also love to bits, but... what is the point of going on? Obviously they have nothing left to prove. Also, there's no doubt that they don't need the money and just tour for the fun of it and clearly they still fill stadiums but.... I don't know.... Perhaps it is different for the new generations, but for the fans who have been there practically from the beginning like me, seeing them play now and remembering those gigs in the 80s brings mixed emotions.... I have plenty of respect for them for keeping Maiden alive and not giving up but, to be honest, I don't see the point of dragging themselves on a stage.... and I insist, I love the dearly. They have been a massive influence as a musician and they will always be a part of me and many fans...
    Just my opinion

I agree. Whenever a major member leaves a huge band , it’s never the same. To me this is like If Charlie Watts would have retired from the Stones.

STFU!!!! Bruce keeps touring on his own and is killing. NIcko even toured as warm-up where he played the entire setlist. Adrian keeps playing on his own. Steve keeps touring with his band.
They are stronger than ever and probably will tour one last time before stopping, but that will be in 2 years! STFU, if you don't want to see them don't go, no one will miss you!

Place your hands folded together, as if in prayer, in a bucket of water, then separate them. The time it takes to fill the void with water, is how long it takes to replace a drummer in a band. Look at Foo Fighters and the irreplaceable Taylor Hawkins. The only revenue coming to bands these days is from live gigs, so sadly it's rock 'n roll until you die. The band will never be the same again, it will be different; whether that is good different, or bad different, is in the head of the fan. Good luck Nicko, you deserve some time off, otherwise, what has it all been for.

Depends on who the drummer is. In the hair-metal 80s most HR drummers were completely generic and totally sucked, and the session guys who sometimes played on the albums couldn't always tell who had played on what _part_ of the albums. Lotta bassists were exactly the same. But bands with their own actual sounds, like Maiden, Rush, Zeppelin, Dream Theater, etc, don't replace any member so easily, if they dare to even try. Bands like Foo and Maiden are high-demand gigs and those guys know a lot of people. Dawson, Jannick, Bruce, and Nicko himself knew the band before they were IN the band, and I think Adrian was another case (Murray knew him). Auditioning sucks and is a last resort.
Don't musicians still get both mechanical and performance royalties? And merch? And whatever DIY/internet stuff they can come up with?

Well when maiden replace Bruce now that was a bommer but we all knew that he will be back but for Nicko yes I heard his struggles and keeping it simple u will feell the different vibe of the band his presence is very strong well thank u nicko for making maidens songs playing very onboring and very technical playing them differently fills every time and showing me how to sound like a double bass with one pedle blessings brother

@@mmestari Actually he probably was, as his input would be hugely educated and he's apparently still in the band as such. And being who he seems to be, he'd have led the charge to find a replacement, and likely had a few suggestions _before_ his stroke, because he saw a day like this coming.

@@hugolafhugolaf maybe but not really necessary. If Nicko can pull off the intro to where eagles dare on a four piece kit im sure Simon can do just the same . Even the late Clive burr didn't have a massive kit. It's was big but not like Nicko has in his set up. But it's each to their own. What the drummer is comfortable with .

I gotta say it's a little bit of a strange pick, but cool for him. I would rather someone less known be picked than someone already insanely famous, or some famous persons son.
