    *Tips aside from those in said video*
    1.) Even if you show up with a few people, be sure to form an actual squad that will stick together in a game. The amount of rental groups I see show up that immediately go tearing off across the field in all directions only to get a pod dumped on them by the veterans is endless. Find with and stick to a team.
    2.) Communication! Talking with your team about the locations, movements, and bodies left concerning the other team makes or breaks most victories.
    3.) Speak up to the referees if the teams are unfairly grouped. Cannot even begin to tell you how many times we get some teenage ref who doesn't care in the slightest about what's happening on the field and throws all the custom marker guys together and then all the rentals together. It's no fun for anybody when that happens.
    4.) Buy a Guru stand for your gun (more for those with their own gear) I seldom shamelessly plug a product, but you don't want a custom set up you spent hundreds on sitting on the crappy wooden/plastic benches at the field. Get a real stand to spare your rig from nicks and scratches.
    5.) If you're out of paint, either ask for more from another player or walk off the field. You're not helping anyone just sitting there.
    6.) Ask the referee, in front of everyone at the beginning of the game if "bunkering" is allowed. "Bunkering" refers to when an opposing player runs directly by you (within 3 feet usually) and shoots you up at point blank range as he runs by. I've seen a number of new players quit paintball for good after not knowing that could happen to them and getting lit up like crazy.
    7.) *Buy twice the paint you think you need* overshooting, in general, is a tough habit to break for new players. You feel powerful and experienced racking off 50 shots at the break of the game.....then realize you only bought a bag of 500 for the entire day. Just buy a case of paint (2K rounds for the uninitiated)
    8.) Mentally prepare yourself to deal with alot of shouting, profanity, and generalized bad attitudes. Idk why paintball has become as such, but there's *a ton* of players who are yelling, swearing, and generally having terrible attitudes all day long unless things go there way. If you're offended by that sort of thing, this probably isn't the sport for you.
    9.) Wear appropriate clothing! Shorts and a tank top will have people personally gunning for you the entire day just out of sadistic pleasure. Ask me how I know :/
    10.) If you're serious about paintball and enjoy it, just drop the money and invest in your own gear. The costs of rental gear, admissions, etc stack up pretty big after a few weekends. If you can simply save roughly $600.00 you can get a decent electronic marker, hopper, compressed air tank, and moderate mask. If you can save up to $1,000.00 or more, go for it. You're throwing money away otherwise.

      Just getting into paintball and your last comment helped a lot. Had some apprehension about dropping hundreds of dollars on the sport but hey, I love it so oh well.

    • @JamesSmith-gk8sz
      @JamesSmith-gk8sz 3 роки тому +4

      @@kevinkingston4780 Glad to hear it man. As far as gear is concerned, if you're not planning on joining a professional team, running tournaments or other competitions, a full set up of moderate to solid gear will run you around $1500 when all is said and done.
      I procured my gear a piece at a time over a year and a half, so don't get the impression I'm some baller who dropped almost 2K at once. My personal recommendation for a marker that's mid level, that I currently own and has never failed me once, the *Axe 2.0* marker. If you're still trying to save, the Axe Mini GS is like $200 bucks cheaper and still a great gun.
      Other than that, do your own research and find out what's best for you. Final pro tip (out of personal experience) *buy decent paint* and stop cheaping out on white box stuff. Modern day electronic markers have what's called "eyes" that are sensors which let the gun know when a paintball is in the breach ready to fire. If you buy crappy paint, it *will* break in the breach, and cover the "eyes" so that your marker will default to only shooting so quickly because it can't see what's going on.
      Personal recommendation: Valken Graffiti. I shoot this exclusively through my Axe 2.0 and it works flawlessly. $60-$70 a case? Yes....but trust me when I say there's nothing more frustrating then watching paintballs fly in all directions or break in your barrel during game time. Hope this helps Kevin, you're the man. 😎

      Hey James, just a question for number 8. Is it more so people just going around using profanity and showing general anger if the round or match goes poorly? Or is it someone specifically targeting another person by yelling, getting in their face, or insulting said person?

    • @michaelfrazier3471
      @michaelfrazier3471 2 роки тому

      @@Mister3Pac people getting upset when the game goes poorly for them. I have seen people get mad when obvious cheating occurs or getting shot when your out because someone shot before they looked. But in all the years I've played paintball I've never seen it come to blows. Just the typical arguments that take place with any sport. All in all paintball players are a pretty classy group and are always willing to help better your game with tips and tricks.

  • @walkereugene

    1. If you lose your barrel bag, but have a swab, just stick that in the barrel. A lot of places let that fly.
    2. If you have a microfiber cloth, either keep it in your pocket or secure it to your waist with your harness. If your harness is velcro, it won't go anywhere and its a quick grab.
    3. My swab usually falls out of my swab pocket so I keep it in my regular pockets. Not what they're meant for, but its worked the best in my experience.
    4. This is kinda cheap, but wear tons of padding. I have a padded jersey and I use arm pads (for slides, dives, etc) and you'll get bounces like crazy.
    5. If you get hit and you're behind a bunker, just wave your hand out of the bunker for a quick sec, YELL that you got it, and you should be fine to walk off.
    6. Wear cleats. I wore my work boots (they were 8lbs each lol) my first time playing and my legs were sore for the next 8 days.
    7. Probably the best piece of advice: Make friends with the regulars and referees. They'll take care of you and watch your back. You'll learn a lot, too.
    This is all I've learned from playing a few weekends with my buddy who's been playing almost 18 years. It helps when you have a buddy who's been playing so long because you'll learn everything they know. Most of what I know is from him and a few things I was able to teach myself. Just get in there, have fun, and know that it's not meant to be taken seriously!

    A couple of other important things:
    1: Bring snacks and plenty of water. Especially if you're playing outdoors in the summertime, you're going to want to keep yourself hydrated.
    2: wear appropriate footwear. Doesn't have to be anything fancy but for the love of god, don't go out in sandals or runners that are held together with duct tape. . . The only injury I've ever had in 20 years of playing, was a concussion I gave myself because I tripped while wearing some really beat up old running shoes. After that I immediately went to Walmart and spent fifteen bucks on a pair of soccer cleats. Easily one of my best paintball purchases, and my greatest paintball regret was not doing that sooner.
