I have seen a couple post on here with people struggling with limited budgets and I just wanted to add a couple of suggestions: Today for around $20.00 maybe a little less I just put on a big pot of Vegetable soup with ground turkey. I bought 2 pounds of turkey yesterday at Aldi's $6.99. Frozen vegetables 12 ounce were 96 cents each X 3 ( 2 green beans, 1 frozen broccoli. 1 onion I bought a bag for less than $3 but you can buy just one onion. I had home canned corn from 2 years ago and home canned potatoes also 2 years ago that I added. I had frozen zuchinni from last year that I added to the pot. This makes about 10 quarts of Vegetable soup. Add a grill cheese sandwich or crackers. I know it's 10 quarts because I am using one of my pressure canners as a stove top pot today. You could also add some store bought kidney beans or any kind of bean. I am a widow now so this is enough soup to last me for a month I freeze in single serving trays.. this batch I am sharing with some of my neighbor kids but I will still end up with enough to have this at least twice a week for a month. Oh I forgot I added 2 jars of spaghetti sauce and a jar of home canned tomatoes from my garden from last years harvest . But it is definitely a budget friendly meal and allows for some savings to buy other things for the week/month. I also bought peaches this week at 99 cents a pound (fresh) that I have sliced up and put in the deep freezer for winter. I am on social security too and people question me at times how I can live on for them a very small amount of money.. I own my home that's a big help and it's a tiny home 672 square feet so my utilities are low we each have different challenges but I wanted to share for others to get some ideas. I will also share separately a budget friend desert. I also wanted to mention Sams Club has 4 pound bags of mixed vegetables for $6.98 that would really be a savings on making the vegetable soup without having to use to many different veggies if you can't afford them.. check with your friends or church members if you don't have a membership and they do and see if they'll pick them up for you. Blessings. Anna In Ohio
The big issue is so many Americans can't/don't cook and it's astounding how much they spend on food. I'm Caribbean and we always ate well on a budget. People complaining about food cost but never cook. Amazing
Budget Friendly Desserts: Depression Era Peanut Butter Cookies: 1 Cup Peanut Butter.. 1 Cup Sugar.. 1 Egg. Mix and Chill. Roll in to balls, dip a fork in sugar and criss cross the cookies, bake at 350 F for 12 minutes. Gelatin at Krogers is $1 for a small box. It makes 2 1 cup servings = 50 cents a serving. Darn it use to be 33 cents a box not that long ago. Aldi's is 85 cents now I believe. Anna In Ohio

I was canning up some pear salsa, and I literally thought the beeper was my beeper that went off, LOL! Great haul, that's a really good idea for those pint and a half jars as drinking glasses. I might just have to get me some of those! Good video!
I think we all need to try and look at the long haul. Like you said, though...pay the electric before the groceries. With a family your size and growing boys and girls a box of cereal might make it thru one breakfast..might!! 😊😊 😊 great video.😊😊
You do great Janice, you are wonderful the way you budget and prepare such good food for your family. Wow girl, I’m so proud of you. You are a blessing to your family.
Even though you went over budget, you were still wise to go ahead and buy the things that were on such a good sale. You know you'll eventually use those things and that will end up saving you money in the long run, especially if prices continue to climb. I'm 68 years old and learning some really good things from you! Blessings to you & your wonderful family! Love watching your videos! 😊
Can’t remember if you’ve talked about it but date sugar is awesome too. It’s just dried and finely ground dates. It’s delish. The syrup can be used as sweetener or like molasses etc.❤
Please don't worry about going over budget. especially when you found some great deals. You you can make up the difference in another month or so. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Hi Janice, I just wanted to let you know that I read a while back the price of olive oil was going up. The reason being drought. The crop has been cut in half because of this. It is sad, but unfortunately we have no control over weather. I have tried to adjust my intake by using other alternatives. I pray you and your family have a wonderful and blessed week. ❤
I also treasure my pint and 1/2 jars from my Mom from many years ago, Love them, also the 1/2 pints, they sell for a lot on eBay, I do get those white lids, two sizes, easy to throw in dishwasher, since I don’t can anything. Got those at Rural King.
When freezing flour, you only do it for a week or two to kill any live bugs or eggs that are in it. Then it is fine to go into your regular containers.

Good job. We have switched to using butter just for baking and margarine for toast. It helps a little. You got some really good deals. Olive oil is cheaper at Aldi, but not sure how it compares to your price. So thankful for our garden,, store discount which gives points on their store card, loss leaders and being able to keep protein, fats and veggies in the house. So blessed. Every day we see what needs used up from dinner the night before and we add a meat or whatever to go with it.
Until today I never realized you live in Cape all my family came from southeast Missouri small world ❤ I have fond memories of going to my aunt and uncle's farm . That was 60 plus years ago
Hi Janice, hope you are all well. I use date syrup as a substitute for honey, mainly on porridge and cereal for an anti inflammatory diet. In the UK i dont think we use very much maple syrup but again i guess it would be a great substitute. Its very sweet so less is probably more! With love, Gail xx
I just made your lasagna soup recipe and it was very good so thanks for that recipe. I make cinnamon rolls all the time. I use to cut them with a knife but I tried cutting the rolls with thread and now that's the only way to cut them now. So much faster for me.
i a senior citizen, things are getting way out there, i can tell you i only have $183 to spend a month for groceries. i eat alot of leftovers for sure. i can't afford azure standard or sams club or cosco the memberships are rediculous. i go to walmart, krogers, save alot, aldie.
To save money I have been buying only mark down meat and I always check out each stores markdown and clearance items many items are not closed dated. My best deals and savings come from Kroger. I quit working in May of 2020 at the age of 66 I've shopped this way for many years
Its just me and hubby, grandson some wknds, and more days in summer hes 15. The prices are ridiculous! Luckily we grow a lot of food, and our own meat. But all the feeds went up and stayed up mostly. We had to raise our beef/pig prices. Now our pasture is dried up from drought. Feeding steer more hay we have to buy. I also date my items but im going to start adding the cost on the things i buy as well. Finding 25lb bags of sugar has been sketchy at walmart. Azure would be an hour+ drive for me. I do coupons, sales, discount store and can spend about 400 a month and a lot of it is filler products corn we dont grow, snack, nuts, milk, flour sugar, etc. You do a great job and i dearly love your vids!!❤😊😊
I watch Our Small Footprint, she is in Australia. She has noted that inflation has hit the hardest on fats. She uses ghee, EVOO and coconut oil. Dairy issues with some family so butter is not purchased. I found it interesting.
For date syrup - try searching for Chef AJ recipes, eg her German Chocolate Cake. Or the "i love date lady" has an article on substituting dates in your recipes (including date syrup). You can replace sugar with it 1-1 but might need to adjust moisture levels.
Dear Janice and friends, please note that I found a better deal for the extra virgin olive oil. It is only 1.5 L in Amazon for 10.63 USD which would mean 21.26 USD for 3 L. Amazon Fresh, Extra Virgin Olive Oil, First Cold Extracted, 51 Oz (Previously Happy Belly, Packaging May Vary). God bless you all! My family loves watching your family as you exhale the good perfume of Christ. May God in Jesus name provide healing and prosperity to all your family and viewers. Love. Anabella W.
Just wanted to let you know that with Walmart Plus they have shelf stable hash browns (same brand that you use) for $21 for an 8 pack, that is $2.63 each. Available only online.
I only use olive oil for flavoring these days and I don't cook with it any more. But I buy the best quality, single origin I can afford. A little goes a long way for me since I'm one person. It's obviously different for your family! I think your buy on your oil was a good deal but I don't know what the label says but it looks fine, and I like the glass bottles! Don't know if the prices have risen in anticipation of a failed or poor crop.
Some ideas for date syrup - zucchini and date syrup bread, date syrup cake and glazed caramel sauce...you can make brownies and date syrup and banana cookies! You can use it in granola too! All the prices on food are going up in the UK, electricity going up 10% in October... crazy crazy!
We’re a family of 3 and I pretty much cook from scratch, since I’m home all day. Man it’s hard… everything is so expensive. We pretty much stop going out to eat, to help us out. ( we eat out 1 or twice a month). My budget is $550 a month.. not including non food. We buy a 1/4 of a cow from my neighbor yearly and we get raw milk and cream from my other neighbor, and we have chickens and we try to grow as much as we can during the summer, and I spend end of summer early fall canning.
These grocery prices are getting so out of hand. Being a senior and on a very low limited income, about all I do purchase is what's on sale. Thank God that I am able to go to Sam's Club with a friend every month because it's a hour and a half away from us. I do a lot of comparison shopping. If I can save $5. or so by going to another store here in town for a sale, I'll use the extra amount of gas it takes to get there
For date syrup- you do 2/3 c if recipe calls for 1c sugar (in baking) If recipe calls for honey or molasses do equal amount of date syrup as the recipe calls for the others
Janice everything has gone up and i am a person that can not have sugar, yeast, milk, wheat . I to have to be careful what i eat so all the special foods cost even more.
We don’t have the hash brown potatoes in our Sam’s. Yikes😳😳44%! I stocked up on some groceries and baking needs at Sam’s it cost $765.11. A single can of cheddar cheese 6 years ago… $4.00 now $20!!
If you shop Dollar tree, they have smaller cartons of shredded hash browns, same cooking method, add water etc. for 1.25 a carton is a awesome for shelf stockpile
Prices are crazy. I'm so thankful my freezers and pantry were fully stocked before I Iost my husband in July. When you go from a weekly pay check to no paycheck then to a fixed income, you really have to plan and watch for sales, markdowns and meal plan.
Hi Janice, I just checked the olive crop production for this year over in Europe. It went up by 9 to 10 %. Some over sources will say 12%. However, it's still 28% lower than their average over 5 years. Yikes!
For years I've frozen my flour before storing. The other day I threw 50 lbs. away because it was full of tiny little black bugs. I keep asking myself if I actually stored some w/o freezing first. I can't imagine that I did, buy why the bugs this time??? I've read that "Cloves and bay leaves act as natural repellents to weevils and also cloves of garlic." Before buying more, I'll scruband bleach the tote I keep it in and pray it won't happen again.
When I freeze flour to kill potential eggs, I only purchase 5lbs bags, no larger. I will not put multiple bags together because that defeats only purchasing 5lbs bags. Many "experts" say 3 days is sufficient, but I leave it for a full week. When I pull bag out of freezer, wrap it in cloth towel to absorb any condensation. Do same thing for rice, corn meal, etc.
I love the dates at Aldi! They are a little cheaper than Sam’s. Also, Parmesan cheese is often included in the Kroger sales, which normally makes it around $3.32/lb. The sales ads this week are lackluster 😢

I love the pint and a half jars. I use them for pasta sauce. Just the right size for my husband myself.
Just wanted to let you know that with Walmart Plus they have shelf stable hash browns (same brand that you use) for $21 for an 8 pack, that is $2.63 each. Available only online.
We want to see Sarah canning tomato sauce
In Australia the olive oil from Costco is 75.00!
Wow!
Yup and $18L on sale in supermarkets minimum. 😢
Love your videos
Look at your yearly saving budget and how that work out this year!
I just watched a clip about cooking oils going up in price. It’s everywhere in the USA 🇺🇸
It’s everywhere around the world! 😢
Good morning janice❤
I loved this. Great sams haul.
We have all been there with blowing the budget. It will even out later in the year. The items you bought on sale you don’t have to buy now❤
i noticed the same thing at my kroger today on olive oil.
Use the chocolate stars for your cookies! Way cheaper and they taste good!
I have started to buy avocado oil, which in my area seems to be a little cheap.
These grocery prices are getting so out of hand.
Being a senior and on a very low limited income, about all I do purchase is what's on sale.
Thank God that I am able to go to Sam's Club with a friend every month because it's a hour and a half away from us.
I do a lot of comparison shopping.
If I can save $5. or so by going to another store here in town for a sale, I'll use the extra amount of gas it takes to get there
Hi family how come you buy store bought butter, when you have a cow?? Dont you get butter from daisy the cow? Xx
They like to stock up on sales.
For date syrup- you do 2/3 c if recipe calls for 1c sugar (in baking)
If recipe calls for honey or molasses do equal amount of date syrup as the recipe calls for the others
Janice everything has gone up and i am a person that can not have sugar, yeast, milk, wheat . I to have to be careful what i eat so all the special foods cost even more.
Think of past savings, balancing out your overage this month ❤
We don’t have the hash brown potatoes in our Sam’s. Yikes😳😳44%! I stocked up on some groceries and baking needs at Sam’s it cost $765.11. A single can of cheddar cheese 6 years ago… $4.00 now $20!!
If you shop Dollar tree, they have smaller cartons of shredded hash browns, same cooking method, add water etc. for 1.25 a carton is a awesome for shelf stockpile
I like the dollar tree containers...just 2 of us at home. Nice stock up price.
Wow on that olive oil! I actually thought it was expensive last month then decided to do more coconut oil. I’m dreaming of azure coming up here!
Yeah, you will definitely love Azure! I know they've expanded quite a bit, but they've just not made it to your area yet. Hopefully soon though! :)
@@ozarkfamilyhomestead yes at least they are in our state now!
Prices are crazy. I'm so thankful my freezers and pantry were fully stocked before I Iost my husband in July. When you go from a weekly pay check to no paycheck then to a fixed income, you really have to plan and watch for sales, markdowns and meal plan.
So sorry for your loss. I’ll pray for you. ❤
We just made 8 1/2 pints of raspberry jam with the same 5lb box of raspberry pieces. Great quality!
Oooooh, I can definitely see us doing that! Raspberry jam sounds so, so good. Thanks for the idea! :)
I know the feeling
It's the same in the UK everything seems to going up.
Janice do you have access to other places that will ship to you?
Hi Janice,
I just checked the olive crop production for this year over in Europe.
@@deeengstrom2055 freezing helps kill the weevil eggs that is in all flour. Maybe you didn't keep it frozen long enough.
Kroger has digital coupon for butter for $2.79 last week..missed a good stock up
Except for the clubhouses, I’ve been having trouble finding olive oil. I wonder if there’s a shortage of it .
Janice let me know about the jars im wondering about them. Things are going up like crazy
@@grandmashomemade9204 I have used them for canning. They are beautiful.
Date syrup is yummy in coffee! It's kind of caramel -esc. I think you can use like you would honey it make syrup vs sugar.
Thank you so very much for sharing that idea! I really do appreciate it! :)
I love date syrup. Don't even use any of the other syrups anymore. Mostly use it on pancakes, etc.
Hi Janice. Inflation is absolutely HIGH since 2021. And yes, getting worse DAILY.
I love the dates at Aldi! They are a little cheaper than Sam’s. Also, Parmesan cheese is often included in the Kroger sales, which normally makes it around $3.32/lb. The sales ads this week are lackluster 😢
