Just turned 80 and had a total hip replacement in October....was not moving for over a year. Started doing these exercises about two weeks ago and I am feeling sore but much better. Keep me motivated...too easy to sit down and forget it. Thank you for your easy pace and lovely voice....no one yelling at me!
Just discovered this video. I'm not ur target audience, as 'only' 52, but I have fibromyalgia and get very stiff and tired. I have been doing pilates once a week for a couple of years and it really helps. This session is well within my comfort zone, not too strenuous, not too long and it really helps mobilise my stiff spine. Thank you.
Thanks for sharing Catgirl. Really pleased to hear it worked for you even though you're a youngster 😉 I made the Senior Sessions to help anyone Senior or younger who just wnats to work at a slower more steady pace with less intensity. I onthe young side too at 56 but rather enjoy these sessions as they always feel like a treat to the body. So glad it's helping you manage your condition. Keep up the great work 😊
Since I started following you and doing this 30 minute of standing pilates, My strength and balance have improved tremendously, I'm 70 years young and in excellent health, I have incorporated your 30 minute pilates with my 30 minute low impact walking cardio, I really enjoy your easy going style makes me want to continue each and every day. Finding you has been a blessing, thank you!
i started 2 weeks ago today ....i've now completed 14 days in a row....am pleased with your various routines...thanks i do the seniors 60+ ...I'm 85 this month...your videos keep me going..
Thanks Lauren, I just found your pilates workout, my first pilates session ever at 75. I was nervous because I need a knee replacement but you described how to modify the lunge👍. So the session was challenging in good way and felt great at the finish 🥰 Jan
I'm a Locked down 75 year old and I 'd like to thank you for your standing classes. So good for strength and balance and really complement my existing exercise interests. So pleased to have found you.
Did not work out for nearly 3 weeks taking care of my dog. Went to a yoga class last nite and everything HURT. Today, back to my loved Pilates and chose this video. Were things tight - oh yes, but worked gently thru it. This was the absolute right thing to do.. my gratitude 🙏🏽
I’ve done these exercises for 37 days in a row and I’m hooked! Still wobbly but a lot better!! I’ll be 60 next month and wish I’d been doing these for ten years!! THANK YOU, Rachel!!!
Thank you for filming the standing Pilates routines for seniors! I've been doing them for two weeks and already have strengthened my ankles and improved my balance. Don't laugh but I was looking for help with balance on my horse. I though what better way then a standing routine that includes strengthening the ankles, knees and hips with the added bonus of balancing. A must try for all equestrians!
I can't believe I found this! I was just talking to my physical therapist about wishing I could find Pilates without having to get onto the floor. I'm 65 and used to do regular Pilates, and have missed it so much! So grateful to you!!! *People might want to keep something like a chair handy, or do the exercises near a wall, in case they lose their balance.* Also, those with arthritis in their back need to consult their rheumatologist before doing forward bends. I was told to avoid those. Back extension is okay, but not back flexion, as flexion puts pressure on the discs.
Hello and thank you for your message, So glad you enjoy the workout and my standing Pilates exercises. Good point on keeping a chair handy, and yes do avoid flexion if you have been told to do so. I have included it as I don't find it an issue with general arthritis but you must avoid flexion if you have osteoporosis as flexion can cause stress fractures in the spine. I do have other videos without flexion if that's what's needed. Back extension is excellent and it's something we should all be doing more of in these days of technology. With best wishes, Rachel
Oh wow! Thank you so much for sharing your story. I am beyond happy that you have felt the benefit already and hope you will continue to take this workout regularly. Keep up the great work! Best wishes, Rachel
There are a lot of videos on UA-cam and articles on the internet about how Boxing can help improve Parkinson's. I got a bag and some teenage girl size boxing gloves and have been punching.
Hi! I'm 67 and have Parkinson's. I can't seem to stick with any exercise b/c I get stiffer and get more pain the next day. I just tried this and I made it to 11 min. I will try to do some again later. Hopefully I will be able to stick to this. :)
Again! I am so glad I found you. You are the perfect instructor, voice, style, . Since i have not gone to the gym, since March 2020 Have tried several of your videos, all I do is walk at the park and your videos. I used to work out 6 days a week and was lost , not knowing what I was going to do. And then, MIRACLE, I found you! I will be 80 years old October31( Halloween)! Thank You, please be safe.
This warms my heart! Thank you for sharing Mora and Happy Birthday- sorry I saw this so late but I'm doing a high Five for you right now! 😘 Take care and keep up the great work, thinking of you, Rachel 😊
I’m 74 overweight and out of shape from too much inactivity during the COVID-19 quarantine. This 30 minutes is perfect for me. I’ve shared it on my Facebook page.
Thank you so much Carol. Really glad to hear this is perfect for you, I plan to film another one in the next two weeks to give you all some more variety 😊
As a 65yr old who's noticed her steadiness is not as it was I've found myself hooked after a week of exercising along with u. My legs may wobble but my determination is strong lol...I've subscribed. Thank u so much.
I’m thrilled to have found you. I’m only mid-50s but suddenly, I felt like I was becoming an atrophied blob and losing muscle quickly. This was perfect for me - just enough to feel challenged, but not so difficult or exhausting that I was discouraged. This will become part of my daily routine and hopefully I can graduate to more challenging videos. Thank you.
I just want to loudly echo everything Lori said (hi, Lori). I took my first pilates class last Sunday and I liked it, except for I realized I have no balance and my range of motion is not what it was 25 years ago. So I was very happy to find this gem. Thank you! I plan to so it every morning and maybe even get my husband to try it. You have a very soothing voice, too.
I am 72 years old and have COPD. I wanted something besides breathing exercises to help me with renewed energy and balance. I was so excited after doing these for the first time yesterday. It completely changed my mood and I felt happy and energetic. Thanks so much for this. I am determined to master those standing balancing moves! Thank you so much!
I’m so appreciative and I’m working with and benefiting from tremendously. I’m 79 and sweating with you workout but enjoying tremendously .Again thank you!
Hello, I'm 62, I was in a previous life athletic, exchanged that for being overweigth. In my last checkup the doctor suggested pilates and I found you. Thank you, followed this class for the first time adn made me realize how out of shape I am now. You got a fan! I will continue following you in your classes. Thank you indeed.
Thanks for sharing Francisco, really hoping you're still practicing pilates with me! Keep upo the great work, Pilates will improve your strength and flexibility, go for it!
I am 76 and have balance issues so when I found this class at the start of Lockdown I decided to give it a go. I have been very pleased with the progress I have made, so thank you!
This was just what I was looking for. I'm 77 years old and was extremely fit until last year when cancer struck and my major surgery made it difficult for me to do floor exercises anymore. I'll certainly be trying your other routines.

I lost a lot of myself caring for my husband (Alzheimer's) and haven't been able to drum up enthusiasm for routine exercise. I happened upon this video and decided to give it a try this evening. I love it and have it bookmarked to do again tomorrow. Thank you!
Gosh you are a good person, taking care of someone you love who has Alzheimer’s is one of the most difficult things to do. Great that you are trying to take care of yourself...that is so important! 😇
Not a senior, but I’ve got chronic fatigue. I used to HIIT, body weight strength train, and cycle a few hundred kilometres every summer. I haven’t been able to exercise for a few years, but I’m going to try this kind of Pilates twice a week. This one was almost too much but I kept moving without pushing myself. Thank you for planning easy and gentle exercises.
Hello and welcome to the channel, sorry to hear about the chronic fatigue, it must be hard for you and I want to help you as much as I can. Here are a few suggestions of great workouts that are short, will build muscle and strength but are not too taxing on the energy levels. I hope they help. pilates really is wonderful for managing many conditions. I hope you find these help you feel good in mind and body. I am in my mid 40's and had total hysterectomy 6 mos. ago, and I am experiencing surgical onset menopausal syndrome. Your video has helped me greatly, today. I will do the rest when I get from work.
So glad I found you. I am 65 and coming to realize some of my old workouts are too intense. That you for having classes that are good but less taxing on our bodies. with covid-19 around I don't have the gym to go to so these classes are very much appreciated.
I am 59 - looking forward to the big 60 in November. Loved this class and feel so loose and chilled now . thank you so much from down under for all the time and effort you put into your classes. So well explained and I just love that accent,

I am 55 and very out of shape and fitness. I am so glad I came across your video, started it today, although very wobbly, it has actually made me feel so relaxed. I am going to do this daily, until I am more fit to do more strenuous exercises, thank you so much, dear. Really love your video❤
Wonderful! I am so glad to hear that. Just take your time and remember every time you do the video you are helping yourself get fitter and feel better. 💐 Keep going 🤗❤️
I have just started Pilates at the age of 79. I go to one class a week and use your videos for the over 60s as much as possible. I appreciate the effort you have put into making these exercises for us oldies. I have weakness on my left side so stand near a support just in case. Thank you Rachael.
So pleased to have found you, Rachel. I really miss my equipment Pilates class and find floor exercising online difficult. Your standing session is perfect for this 70-year-old in lockdown. More please!
Hi Catherine, Thank you for your kind words. I taught apparatus classes before the lockdown but have moved online and my clients now do mat work classes from home. The standing workouts work really well for those who find floor work difficult. There is a new standing workout going live tomorrow, so let me know how you get on. Rachel
Thank you, Rachel, I enjoyed your pilates class for seniors. I am 77 y.o. young and trying to keep moving every day with either walking or doing yoga and pilates.
Hi Rachel! I am almost 80 and used to go regularly to a Pilates class which shut down just before Covid. Am terribly unfit and have started to feel my age. On browsing I happened on your video and decided to have a look I think I may be hooked! Going to give this a daily go and hope it changes my life! Thank you very much..
You are so welcome and I really hope it cvhanges your life too. It's a lovely one to do on a regular basis, no lying down, lots of great exercises and the breathing you'll remember from your pilates classes pre covid. Thanks so much for sharing and enjoy the sessions 😊
Hello Rachel, I did your standing Pilates for seniors, I never realized how out of balance till I did this. I'm not going to lie, my body is stimulated just for doing this once. Thank you for sharing this. I also want to request more of the back pain it's my weakest part, aside from having bad balance. I will continue to work with your videos, I've told some of my friends as well. Again thank you so much.
Those exercises for stiff shoulders are what I need. Like a lot of people today I spend time o. A PC or laptop and I feel so stiff in my shoulders. Plus the gentle pace and recognition that our bodies need that in the later years. Thank you Rachel.
Hello Rachel, I'm new to your channel but just wanted to say how glad I am to have found you! I'm 55, not quite a 'senior' yet but due to putting on menopause weight, plus a disability, I'm now rather unfit with stiff & achy joints. I have started doing your standing pilates for seniors and the chair-based workout for painful knees and am already feeling the benefits after just a few weeks. I love your teaching style- you explain everything so well, and are so encouraging, and I really appreciate that you have many classes for all sorts of injuries and conditions because sometimes even 'normal' beginners classes are not completely suitable for those of us with physical challenges. Thank you so much for making such high quality classes available for everyone, I hope to continue to enjoy them for a long time to come! x
Hello Gill and welocme to the channel 🤗 Thank you so much for your lovely message, I really appreciate the feedback and am delighted that you are enjoying your pilates with me. I think the Senior sessions are a great place to start, keep going with them as they are all beneficial, functional sessions and as you are experiencing you are already feeling the benefits. Wonderful! Keep up the great work and know that you will continue to feel better and better with each session xxx
Hi Rachel, my wife Louise and I are doing this and other classes every morning to get us fit and stronger during lockdown. Your classes are excellent and you are such a calm and supportive instructor. This is our morning schedule: First element - Rachel - 10 minute standing strength, balance and coordination class Second Element - Joe Wicks - 20 minutes HiiT class ‘PE with Joe’ Third Element- Rachel - 30 minutes standing class. It’s is your Pilates classes that are making the real difference with my core strength. We are hooked and will be back every day. Take care.
i usually do a Modern pilates class twice a week but at the moment the gym is closed. My husband and I have just done this work out and found it be very good . Thank you Rachel

I’m 63 yrs old and I love this. It would help at certain positions ,you turn to your side so that we can see your back and so we know we are not over arching and hurting our back. Thank you. Will try to follow you daily.
Thank you. I am 77 years. Today was my first work out with you . I was introduced by a close male friend and, so I thank him. However, I have one vein in my left leg and, circulation is a problem. I intend to stick with YOU. Again, thanks for taking time for us Seniors. Stay good.
I’m not a senior but after some injury to my hip/core about I struggle with my balance and core strength. This has been such an excellent step back into the fitness world. I feel so much better already.
I've been doing these 3 weeks now. They've helped ever so much with my strength, coordination, and balance--though I still have far to go! Thanks so much for this wonderful course!!
Wonderful! Thank you so much Ken, that is great to hear, and you are most welcome. I really appreciate the positive feedback. Keep up the great work! Best wishes, Rachel
Hi Rachel, because of covid, and cancer treatment which ended a year ago, I stopped going to the gym. I'm feeling stiff and achy in my joints so I thought of yoga and happened to find your videos which suit me perfectly. I hope to see more of you. Thank you!
I have just found this site, I’m 71 and have been doing these exercises every day for the last week. It’s brilliant for stretching and balance, thank you so much.
Most helpful for posture, I noticed that I was standing straighter after the session! And, slowly my balance has been improving. Thanks for putting these exercises together.
Rachel, Louise and I are delighted to see you reach and probably exceed that magic 1 Million views of this workout. You must be very proud of the support you are providing to us newbies on the Pilates journey.
I just turned 63 and four years ago, I broke my ankle. My balance has never been the same. Grateful to have found The Girl with the Pilates Mat. Working on improving my balance with your guidance.
First time doing this - really enjoyed it and planning to do loads more. Am not yet 50 but my joints feel like those of an 80 year old 😢 These are gentle yet I can feel the work out. Thank you 😊
Thank you so much for this workout. I knew my balance was bad but realized it's actually terrible so I am going to practise this daily. Thanks again Rachel!

So happy I found these videos. I have Lupus and most days I’m very stiff and sore. These videos help to gently wake everything up and I feel so much better all day😊
Rachel, you've been keeping me going since the beginning of the pandemic! Getting into pilates with your wonderful videos has been the best gift to me during these challenging times! I'm in my early sixties and have definitely improved with strength and balance. Also, because I had ballet lessons as an adolescent, your style has a natural appeal for me! Thank you for everything, and hope you are keeping well! Best wishes, Laurie
Wow, I'm in my 50s but have arthritis in the feet and am getting ever stiffer all over the body all the time. Just found this video by chance and gave it a try - and it's great! The balance exercises were a real challenge, but I'm going to repeat every day and see how things improve. Thank you so much!
Hello Helen, and a very warm welcome to my channel. Really pleased you enjoyed the session and do repeat it as often as you want to - it’s a great one for strengthening the body as well as improving balance and core strength. Keep up the great work 😊
Hi Rachel Loving your exercise videos... I'm 62 consider myself pretty healthy and fit, but have always hated exercising and found it tedious. However, I decided to try your videos because I know deep down I should be exercising more to maintain and improve my fitness and I now look forward to following your instructions several times a week. Love your teaching style... instructions are clear and concise and your voice is soothing and encouraging. Thank you. Kind regards
Hello from Miami, Florida...Thank you for these videos! Finally a pilates workout that I can follow i'm 68), it's challenging yet gentle and it's really helping me get through this difficult Covid social distancing period.
I am 82 and recently experienced muscle pain where I had a hip operation 7 years ago. Doctor prescribed painkillers but after doing your routine every day for two weeks the pain has almost gone and I do not need to continue with the medication. I shall continue with this routine, then when I am happy with my progress will start a new routine with you. So glad I came across your video. Rosemary
Hello! I love the idea of a slow standing flow. While I am not 60+, I recently survived two health challenges last year. It is hard trying to find exercises and stretches that I can do with a limited equilibrium. Thank you for the sessions!
I just started doing this routine a week ago. I do this and the mat video on alternate days. Thank you so much, Rachel. I am already feeling improvement in my balance and endurance. This is now part of my daily routine, and exactly what I was looking for. You rock!

Thank you so much for this video. I am In Isolation due to Covid-19 so having access to this video is excellent. Am over 70 and recently overdid exercise on my rowing machine and ended up with lots of aches and pains and barely able to walk so am using this video to try and get my muscles less stiff. This is my second session and it's working. 😗🤗
Oh I love that Maja! How wonderful, keep going and do let me know how you both get on. I'll try and film another one very soon! Best wishes to you both, Rachel
Thank you for this. Wish I had found you sooner. I am regaining my muscle memory after a broken thigh bone and these exercises are really helping me. Only on Day 2 and I already can do more of each exercise than yesterday. Keep up the good work. Jan. (Age 67).
Hate to get too excited about anything BUT this seems to be just what I need! This doesn't hurt me, like so many exercise routines do ( even yoga) and brings back the childhood dancer in me! I feel happy and love your voice!

This is excellent exercise for seniors like us
Did not work out for nearly 3 weeks taking care of my dog.
Melinda thank you for encouraging me
Loving your senior workouts - nearly 70 and in need of flexibility and balance so doing mat workout one day and standing workout the next!
Wonderful xx
Thank you for filming the standing Pilates routines for seniors! I've been doing them for two weeks and already have strengthened my ankles and improved my balance. Don't laugh but I was looking for help with balance on my horse. I though what better way then a standing routine that includes strengthening the ankles, knees and hips with the added bonus of balancing. A must try for all equestrians!
Well that's certainly a first for me - loving that this has helped with your balance on your horse! Thanks for sharing! 🤗
I'm only 37, but I'm very out of shape due to injury and weight gain, and this is perfect. So happy I found it.
How are you doing? Do you have updated to encourage us who have same problems? ✌🏼🙂
👍❤️
My first class and I loved it. I'm 77 years old and have Parkinsons
This is incredible and I feel a difference already. Thank you.
@@Felicity701 you go, girl!!
Again!
I am so glad I found you.
You are the perfect instructor, voice, style, .
Since i have not gone to the gym, since March 2020
Have tried several of your videos, all I do is walk at the park and your videos.
Enjoyed this exercise thank u I am 65 yrs old
I’m thrilled to have found you.
Exactly what I wanted to say!
I feel the same. Hit my mid 50s and I feel suddenly like a different person.
Hello Kathy, how are you doing?
I’m so appreciative and I’m working with and benefiting from tremendously. I’m 79 and sweating with you workout but enjoying tremendously .Again thank you!
Wonderful! So glad to hear you are enjoyingmu sessions. Take care and keep up the great work xx 😘
Thank you I feel energized.
This was just what I was looking for. I'm 77 years old and was extremely fit until last year when cancer struck and my major surgery made it difficult for me to do floor exercises anymore. I'll certainly be trying your other routines.
Hello Joan, ☺️ how are you ?? I hope you're good and safe. Honestly I must commend you've got an amazing smile.. I was so touched to read this Joan, I hope you are going from strength to strength to strength and am so glad to hear how the standing work is helping you ❤️💐
I lost a lot of myself caring for my husband (Alzheimer's) and haven't been able to drum up enthusiasm for routine exercise.
Have a wonderful day, Rachel ❤️

I am 78, I started these exercises two weeks ago and feel so much better. I try to do 20 minutes a day.

This is a great class to do for standing and balance ,particularly if space is limited too....either at home or on holiday ...Thank you xxx
So glad you enjoyed it 🤗
I’m so grateful you are including seniors in your program! I’m definitely in!
why do you guys want to be called seniors? what is wrong with just 'older people'?
I have just started Pilates at the age of 79. I go to one class a week and use your videos for the over 60s as much as possible. I appreciate the effort you have put into making these exercises for us oldies. I have weakness on my left side so stand near a support just in case. Thank you Rachael.
So pleased to have found you, Rachel. I really miss my equipment Pilates class and find floor exercising online difficult. Your standing session is perfect for this 70-year-old in lockdown. More please!
Hi Catherine,
Thank you for your kind words. I taught apparatus classes before the lockdown but have moved online and my clients now do mat work classes from home. The standing workouts work really well for those who find floor work difficult.
There is a new standing workout going live tomorrow, so let me know how you get on.
Rachel
@@TheGirlWithThePilatesMat That's marvellous news. Might any of your Zoom classes be suitable for me as well?
Hello Deborah, how are you doing?
Thanks. Perfect.should have been my warmup pre tennis lesson, but rain has stopped play. This 76 year old feels great benefit.
That's great to hear Alison - thank you too! ❤️
This is our morning schedule:
First element - Rachel - 10 minute standing strength, balance and coordination class
Second Element - Joe Wicks - 20 minutes HiiT class ‘PE with Joe’
Third Element- Rachel - 30 minutes standing class.
It’s is your Pilates classes that are making the real difference with my core strength. We are hooked and will be back every day. Take care.
hi Stephen. we didn't like Jo wicks becaus no stretching, warm up or cool down. Essential anyway but even more so I THINK IF OLDER !!
The work out was brilliant and as I am in the sixties age range it certainly makes you feel better mentally and physically.
i usually do a Modern pilates class twice a week but at the moment the gym is closed. My husband and I have just done this work out and found it be very good . Thank you Rachel
Hello Bronwyn, great to hear from you and thank you very much for the feedback. I'll be sure to add more soon, in the meantime do check out my other workouts, I have standing as well as contemporary pilates on the channel. Hope you are safe and well, best wishes, Rachel
I’m 63 yrs old and I love this. It would help at certain positions ,you turn to your side so that we can see your back and so we know we are not over arching and hurting our back. Thank you. Will try to follow you daily.
Hello Lynn, how are you doing?
I love your style and voice. I feel so blessed to have a private workout any time I want it with someone so awesome! :) So glad I found you.
Hi Rachel, because of covid, and cancer treatment which ended a year ago, I stopped going to the gym. I'm feeling stiff and achy in my joints so I thought of yoga and happened to find your videos which suit me perfectly. I hope to see more of you. Thank you!
Thank you Diana, so glad you found my videos helpful. keep up the great work 😊
I have just found this site, I’m 71 and have been doing these exercises every day for the last week. It’s brilliant for stretching and balance, thank you so much.
Most helpful for posture, I noticed that I was standing straighter after the session! And, slowly my balance has been improving. Thanks for putting these exercises together.
2nd time doing this. 1st time I could only do about 15 minutes. today I did the whole 30 minutes. thank you.
Linda, first time doing it and only made it to 11 min., but will try more later. I could feel my body starting to "wake up".
Thanks for that lovely comment Kathryn! 🤗

Five out of seven days this first week and seeing improvement with my balance. Still a long ways to go but I’m encouraged.😊
I wasn't sure what I would find while searching for stretches for seniors. I feel like I hit the jackpot! I have heard about benefits of Pilates but I can't do floor exercises so this is perfect...thank you!!
So happy I found these videos. I have Lupus and most days I’m very stiff and sore. These videos help to gently wake everything up and I feel so much better all day😊
Hello Donna, how are you doing?
Rachel, you've been keeping me going since the beginning of the pandemic! Getting into pilates with your wonderful videos has been the best gift to me during these challenging times! I'm in my early sixties and have definitely improved with strength and balance. Also, because I had ballet lessons as an adolescent, your style has a natural appeal for me! Thank you for everything, and hope you are keeping well! Best wishes, Laurie
Hello Laurie, how are you doing?
Wow, I'm in my 50s but have arthritis in the feet and am getting ever stiffer all over the body all the time. Just found this video by chance and gave it a try - and it's great! The balance exercises were a real challenge, but I'm going to repeat every day and see how things improve. Thank you so much!
Joined today for the first time.....Lovely intro into pilates for a 62 year old!!
Hello Helen, and a very warm welcome to my channel. Really pleased you enjoyed the session and do repeat it as often as you want to - it’s a great one for strengthening the body as well as improving balance and core strength. Keep up the great work 😊
This exercise is perfect for me, stretches all my muscles and makes me ready to start my day, thank you! I am 75.
Wonderful!
Hi Rachel
Loving your exercise videos...
You rock!
Hello Mary, how are you doing?

Thank you so much for this video. I am In Isolation due to Covid-19 so having access to this video is excellent. Am over 70 and recently overdid exercise on my rowing machine and ended up with lots of aches and pains and barely able to walk so am using this video to try and get my muscles less stiff. This is my second session and it's working. 😗🤗

I Love this Lady! she gives great cues and The senior series is wonderful! I'm slowly getting stronger again and have been building up through her exercises
Hello Marie, how are you doing?
