1977 I was 17 and my uncle bought me my first beer in a bar and this was the first song I heard on the juke box drinking my first beer in a bar. Miss you Uncle Royce. Love the Kendalls!!
right on!! special times like these are priceless!! YOU';ll see him again 'over there' when the time comes,in the meantime he's ONLY a thought away!! honor him with a good cold one, once in awhile:-) Peace Love and good music!!
15 in 77, spent most of the Summer at Grandpa's hauling hay. Rediscovered country music that Summer and this is one of the songs that I couldn't get enough of!😁
Family harmonies are untouchable. Some songs are best as a male-female duet meaning a father-daughter or brother-sister. Listen to "I heard the bluebirds sing". Marty Robbins does a good version as do Jim and Jesse. But neither male version can touch the versions by Jim Ed & Maxine Brown (brother-sister) or Hugh & Maria Doherty (Father-Daughter).
Watching the video you can see Royce look over at his daughter while she is singing and smile. He was admiring her accomplished vocal skill and he was proud father. R.I.P. Royce
Royce was a total champ of a harmonizer/backing vocalist. He sticks to her vocals like velcro... you don't even notice him, it just comes at you as one smooth sound.
You remind me of my aunt. She was in her late teens or early 20’s when this song was popular. I was about 4 and I remember watching them sing this live at my grandparents house one Friday night. I asked her if she liked the song and she said “I do like it. But I know I shouldn’t.” She was also raised Southern Baptist. My mothers family was Jewish so I never understood why she would feel guilty for liking a song, lol.
They played at kain yuk territory a theme park in western ky and I was playing fiddle and mandolin in some of the shows in the park working my way threw college when Royce's winked at.me while I was playing I went home and got a friend to put my name on my guitar just like his lol
I saw Jeannie and Royce at the Rehoboth Fair 1988. They were the sweetest people. At the end of the show when they took pictures and signed autographs, they really took their time. You could tell they were genuinely enjoying themselves.
Sure do miss this old great time country music these days on the radio. These were the glory years, what talent and passion! Love and miss you Jeannie and Royce! Thank you ever so kind people for sharing your gifts with all who feel uplifted when you sing!
I can't believe our best and ever country singers are disappearing in front of our eyes. Who's going to sing for us. They're the best voices I have ever heard. So sad to see them go. They're missing in action.
People don't record country music like this anymore is becsuse the meth smokein youngsters don't get off to it,they would have boom box booming ,something that don't make sinse
I just love the “Old”Country. The “New” Country sounds like regular pop music to me. Although I was just telling my sisters yesterday that the words in those songs really had an influence on me as a young to teen growing up in the 70’s girl. I sometimes wish I didn’t listen it in away.
😮iv had a great breakdancing career but iv never forgot my roots..I'm a true country boy..chopping wood and bailing hay...heven is definitely just a sin away. In my world.. ...heavens always a sin away for me
I haven't heard this song in years. I stumbled back into it this last week and it's part of the songs on my iphone plus several more of theirs. I also found "I Swear" by John Michael Montgomery..I sung this song to my sweet hubby Jerry after a near fatal wreck that put him in a wheelchair for life but together Jerry and I made it. I simply titled my faves under The Kendall's so I have them to listen to when I want a lift up. Jerry and Sugar Bear are happily watching Dale Earnhardt Sr race in Heaven with the Angels. I plan on joining Jerry and Sugar Bear and Dale Earnhardt Sr and listen to the beautiful music and watch Dale race to win with Angels. Thank you. Gloria and Bear
One of the duet legends whose music will live forever in our hearts and Heaven. Jennie's voice remains beautiful and Royce sings in Heaven always to be cherished by God and the Angels. The Oppermans from Tx
That was my favorite song the year they came out with it!it is very true and meaningful just like all of the old fashion country and western songs! I would do anything to have them come back!👍💞🙏
I met Jeannie and her dad back in 1985 or 86 in Abilene Texas, she was a very cute young lady. I found this UA-cam video while watching old country music, I am glad I did, thanks UA-cam
Love this classic hit song, like when first came out on radio stations. Back then. So glad got chance see them in concert, once in life time. Favorite music artist. Thank You.
I was assigned the NATO Headquarters when this song came out. I was a member of the Rhineland Baptist Church then, Paster Roy Griggsby heard me singing this song while I was dusting the piano and he said “You can’t sing that trash in here” I said “Why not Pastor, God hears me sing it all the time, besides it’s a Gospel song” he just shook his head.
I had forgotten how fantastic they were! Bought their records and albums. What a great blend of voices her lead is always pitch perfect and her dad's harmony is perfect as well. Thank you to whomever uploaded this great video!
Nothing left but good memories about the music back then. I don't know why but the country music always sounded better in Colorado. Came from the same source but for some reason it just sounded and meant more in Colorado.
Had the Privilege.of meeting them and Freddy Fender in Brownwood TX in 1979 when I DJ'd/MC'd a Show they put on at the Brownwood Colliseum. Super nice Folks, and very Down-to-Earth. Come to find out, her Poppa hailed from the Jonesboro AR area...where I used to run through when I was a Younger Fellow.
I'm old enough to remember this song. Had a lot of controversy around it as it was a father and daughter singing about adultery. It was the 70's after all.
You are wrong as hell! The song is about premarital sex not adultry, and to insinuate otherwise is just pathetic, they were a good Christian themed duo. So go spew that vile crap somewhere else
Jerry and Sugar Bear and I miss you Royce. One of the best duos whose music makes me happy again. Thank you for this wonderful video as I once again have it in my Kendalls collection to enjoy!
Been watching late night tv and an advert for "Superstars of Country" which had a quick clip of this song. Thought it was catchy so of course looked it up on youtube. Glad I did, its a catchy tune and she has a lovely voice.
Who's still loving this in 2024?
Me!!! I was a DJ in the 80s in Waco, TX. Played and loved all these classic country sounds.
me......
I am
Ever since I was little, I've loved this song.
Me at 79 in the UK.
A million times better than today's country music, absolutely classic.
Absolute classic, sorry
I heard this song so long ago it’s on a cassette I still own, it brings back so many memories, what a wonderful song.
It's a fine song. And I prefer cassettes. Lighter to carry and good sound.
This song tells it like it is in LOVE....

What a GREAT GREAT memory.
Much love from Mobile Alabama.
I love this, I saw them on Hee Haw when I was little, I'm 59 now and I still love it. God bless you ❤
Same here, I loved Hee Haw when I was a kid .. Roy Clark and Ace Frehley were my heroes at 12 :D ... other than mom and dad, of course !!
@@lucasvonbraun Ah, the good Ole days 👍
Traditional Country is where it's at. The stuff radio stations play over the air waves today doesn't hold a candle to great country songs like this.
So true.
Oh boy,are you right !!!
You mean today's "music" from TrashVille ?
agreed totally with you,
Ran away at 17 to Delaware Ohio and at this restaurant they were playing this song. I loved it.
First song I heard in a bar jukebox was tight fittin’ jeans…
I am from worthington but left for nyc when I was 17. Didn’t know folks run to Delaware but if they were playing this song, I just might’ve…
I was born in the 60's great tunes and still listening!!!! 2024
Me too
Same here! I was born in the 60's, the Kendalls was one of my favorites!
He had to be one of the proudest dads in the world to be able to join such a talented daughter on stage......RIP Royce
I might be 24 years old but I’ll take old country music any day instead of this i drive my daddies truck crap they play on the radio now
I hear ya..... new Country is like crappy rock, with stupid guitar solos. It's not like back in the day.
Don't take me wrong, I'm a fan of old Country and Classic Rock. I don't care for the blend. But I guess, it's evolution ;)
Great song. Sung by a Father & his daughter.
Love it.
Jeannie has one of the most underrated voices of all time, just incredible
It's a little grating actually.
I always thought this song was inappropriate for Father and daughter to sing. imo.

A GREAT Father and Daughter team!! Love their songs! :)
Hello 👋 how are you doing?
Country music today can’t compare to the Kendall’s. Pure . Basic. Story telling at its best.
I love this song. When I was a kid (born in 1969) I listened to it over and over. I still have the record.
Ok folks. This is called talent
Damn straight
You are 100% correct.......
Royce was a total champ of a harmonizer/backing vocalist. He sticks to her vocals like velcro... you don't even notice him, it just comes at you as one smooth sound.
I agree
One of my all time favorite country songs. Great Daughter and dad harmony. The catchy parts are when they run one line into the other without pause.
Raised Southern Baptist, I've always been a bit shocked by how much I LOVE this song!
My late mother, who put the "Baptist" in Southern Baptist, would sit at the piano and play/sing this one. Just a catchy tune.
Well my southern Baptist grandmother loved it too. That's why I'm here. I miss her❤️
LOVE is here!
Im a recovering Baptist.
Her voice is heavenly
He was her father. Her mother didn't want her to go out on the road unless her dad would go along to take care of their daughter.
And he sings softly to let his daughter have the shine. Respect that.
They played at kain yuk territory a theme park in western ky and I was playing fiddle and mandolin in some of the shows in the park working my way threw college when Royce's winked at.me while I was playing I went home and got a friend to put my name on my guitar just like his lol

I never heard that before
They came to Uniontown Pa back in 1980. I was a 5 or 6 year old boy who wore out a lot of record needles playing this single
I saw Jeannie and Royce at the Rehoboth Fair 1988. They were the sweetest people. At the end of the show when they took pictures and signed autographs, they really took their time. You could tell they were genuinely enjoying themselves.

Lot of Great Voices there , but the time has changed
Why can't people record GOOD Country Music like this any more?
People don't record country music like this anymore is becsuse the meth smokein youngsters don't get off to it,they would have boom box booming ,something that don't make sinse
People can record music like this ,but it want sell
Meth heads don't like country mucic,it don't rattle their brains like the boom box does
It is because people like it too much.
