The moment Justin, Sue and Feena climb on top of The End of The World and watch a whole new world beneath them... Well, I'm speechless. One day... perhaps one day...
Many people say JRPGs promote escapism and they only suit teenagers best. But don't we have the right to dream of something greater than the cruel reality? I am now in my unemployment crisis and all I can think about is getting a damn job. I miss the days when I still had the courage to dream of something "crazy", like Justin did when he determined to pass that wall.
Grandia = When games can't get more grand in terms of emotions, gameplay, story, enviroment, love to detail.....this list could be endlessly continued.....
Eleositripolh So? ^^ Final Fantasy VIII is pretty great as well, the one is better in some terms, the other in some other, both can outshine each other in certain aspects.
Personally I see Grandia as the best RPG of the PS1, when it comes to the actual game. There was never a better version of the ATB-system, a fixed group at all time (yet changing) with very individual roles, multi-component-bosses, etc. Seeing as how it became pretty much forgotten, while the hyping of FFVII gets bloated seemingly with no end, I get sad every time.
Well, ALL opinions on games are subjective, but as someone who only played both FFVII and Grandia for the very first times as an adult recently... my experience was that FFVII became what's probably my favorite game of all time while Grandia was only about average to me. One of my problems with Grandia is that most of the characters save for Justin, Feena, and maybe Rapp are only ever with the party for fleeting periods and never get any measurable character development. This is opposed to FFVII, where a huge cast of characters bands together long term and EACH one gets their own backstory quest and has a deep past of HEAVY, emotional problems that shape their personalities. Whereas Grandia has... a couple teenagers with a crush on one another? Another HUGE issue I had was the linearity at the end. In FFVII, you had a GIGANTIC game world to freely explore the further you progressed; in Grandia, you only ever get access to a small handful of towns/dungeons at any given time, and you're funneled into pretty much one claustrophobic dungeon at the end with NOTHING to do but grind and finish the game out. Crippled the sense of freedom and exploration I long for in JRPGs. This isn't meant to be an inflammatory trashing of Grandia; I just want to offer my own perspective on why FFVII may have garnered so much more fame (which I believe it deserves, actually). I'm actually pretty fond of Grandia overall despite the things I dislike about it, and its battle system is really fantastic indeed.
the whole theme is just scream in your heart "its time to go adventure!!!!" it just so magical when you hear it like seriously you can just pop this when you are on morning jog and it feel like you are running toward something amazing
This game took me on an adventure, I laughed, I cried, I missed my family and friends. This brought it all back running around town with my legendary (Wooden sword) and shield (Pot lid), adventures with Sue and fighting to save the world with Liete and Feena.
Ryudo the Geohound also have Adventure but... to escort Elena of Carbo Village to the Holy Cathedral, fight alongside with Millenia against Darkness Valmar

Games like Grandia make it worth still having a PlayStation 1 or 2 just like Chrono Trigger makes it worth still having a Super Nintendo. Long live Grandia!
In fact, this game was first released for Sega Saturn. And if you try Grandia II on Dreamcast, you'll feel a real pity for the short lived Dreamcast. With games like Grandia, Sega did have quite a potential.
I literally started tearing up when I heard this towards the end of the game. All the party members you’ve met along the way telling you that you’ve come too far and accomplished too much to give up now. There is a destiny only you must fulfil. So powerful
This theme was my embodiment of hopes and dreams of the future. They're dead and buried now, but this song will always be a part of me. Thank you, Grandia. You were my first true JRPG, and I love you for it.
This game lulled my childhood, it's a master piece who give me the desire to travel and discover the world. 20 year later i still listening to his theme.
So glad I picked this game up randomly at a random gamestop at the mall on a whim, didn't hear anything about it. Something about the game when I picked it up and read the back of the box. Sometimes a game just calls out to you and it fits you, like when you pick a pet. '98 was a good year..
What an incredible intro to a game really sets the tone for adventure, I never knew why they never made a prequel about how Justin's father found the spirit stone, imagine Justin's father and Java setting forth to discover New Parm, being attacked by Lily the Skull and she joins the party they meet Mr. Gauss in New Parm and establish the adventurers society together
Playing the HD Collection on Switch right now and this game alone is definitely worth the 40 euros. So glad two UA-camrs I watch raved on about this game for years and made me wanna get it.
Genuinely my favourite Game of all time. Characters personalities so wonderful. Gameplay: battle system fun and engaging. Music epic as we can all hear. This game and soundtrack put me through so many emotions, and I loved every minute.
I lost count of how many times i played this game. Every few years this song pops into my mind. I literally get teary eyes and feel the urge to go on an Adventure with my boys and girls. I boot it up and have a fantastic time everytime.
omg i remember when i played this for the first time. the story, environments, character interactions, great story....no game like this exist today. you felt so involved and really cared for the characters.. makes me cry... best game ever!!
I actually get goosebumps up my arm from listening to this, brings back so many great, joyful memories. It saddens me to think that there will probably never be another game I enjoy playing as much as Grandia, it was the game of my childhood. I just wish they'd made actual Sequels/Prequels to Grandia, instead of Grandia 2 and 3 (one that actually shows what happened to Justin's dad, and one hundreds of years later when the tales of Grandia are just a legend.)
I see what you mean, but Grandia 2 was also phenomenal despite not being related plotwise. It had it's own plot that was very interesting, and with a major twist near the end that was pretty shocking and that I did not see coming. I have not played Grandia 3, but I've heard that it doesn't quite measure up to the previous titles and was a little disappointing.
*+Golusion* You realize that calling someone or something "sick" is bad, right? Using slang that sounds stupid certainly doesn't make a person sound smarter.
The point when someone notices that the American language and humour actually has "fucked up" over time XD , maybe I can feel you bro. (People who are unbearable with criticism likely want to stop reading this comment now...) I don't like the American profane way of bad language and expressing feelings either, even alone the innecessity of it. Sometimes it makes me feel bad or insulted and regret reading it. Horribly enough, that a few american-wannabe post-teenagers in europe even try to immitate it.
Just because a word or phrase doesn't make sense in your lexicon does not make it any more or less "smart", especially if it's an expression of appreciation. You could say that it's less sophisticated, sure, but that's a petty thing to complain about in the comments section of a UA-cam video.
I played this one not too long ago and this game is so massively overlooked in the conversation of storytelling in games. My god this game is so comfy and enjoyable to play. I'm very happy to see this game being out on PS4/PS5 as well for more people to enjoy!
I have it and loving every minute of it. I played both 1 and 2 briefly, but couldn’t get into them at the time. Now, they feel right at home on the Switch when the RPG market is flooded with lackluster and watered down titles. Going back to the olden days of the great RPGs is a breath of fresh air.
I absolutely LOVE this game! Such a awesome adventure that the game lets you explore! You start off as someone that knows nothing but you empirically learn and eventually become a full fledged adventurer! Not to mention the gameplay and plot are pretty awesome! Grandia is a must play for anyone trying out RPGs!

Greetings Grandia fans, I have news. If you're interested in hearing from the original voice cast? The voice of FEENA & LILLY (Angela Anderson) is doing a live interview on Twitch March 27th! Full details can be found here (www.reddit.com/r/grandia/comments/t9lzz5/voice_of_feena_lilly_to_do_a_live_interview_on/) and my previous interviews are here on my channel! Much love
