How did these two fishing rods do in your back back. How did you pack it? Inside? Outside? Do they have bags to enclose them in? These look like really nice setups.

I've had the Emmrod system for about a decade. Hands down the most versatile out there. Virtually indestructible, they have many different styles and configurations. I've used reels from ultra light to a 4000 series. Fresh and salt water. Panfish to Snook! This year I'm focusing on land a Bull redfish on it!

I have an Emrod Kayak version for 10 years plus. Friends laugh but it never broke and I caught more fish in boat and shore than most. Use 40lbs higher braided line and you will amaze anyone!

Good vid and comparison. For years, I used an old fashioned CB antenna as a backpacking fishing rod. The spring provided just the right "give" and the long base was simple to tape a reel on. I removed the end eye from an older broken rod and used it on the tip of the antenna. It made a good, light, very packable rod and reel. I caught many fish on that ultralight rig -- including an 5 lb. catfish.

I'm surprised you didn't show how the Emmrod is broken down and stored. I use to sell them and that was one of the neat tricks to show for getting a sale. People didn't think the rod tip came out. Twist, pull out, reverse tip and it slides on making it even smaller in length to fit inside a backpack or even your pants pocket depending on its size. Expensive, yes. However it's one of those things you'll be glad you spent the extra money on.

I have had the Emmrod for a few years, and LOVE it. However, I recommend the spin-cast version. Spinning reels are nicer, but when jamming in a backpack, the bail can get bent or broken. So you either need to keep the reel in a case of some kind, or just get a more sturdy reel. The spincast version allows for the reel handle to be easily removed, and then the whole thing goes into a pack without worry of breaking.
Also, Diawa makes the "Mini-Spin." The rod breaks down into five pieces, and the whole thing (including reel) goes into a small plastic case. It is nicer to fish with, but takes more effort to put together or take apart.

I have a couple Emmrods. They are particularly good for fishing from a canoe when there are a lot of overhanging trees. There is actually a "slingshot" technique you can use to shoot your lure in low. I also use a Ronco Pocket Fisherman just for laughs - it's actually pretty decent.

Great video, myself I have done research into the Emmrod setup, and though yes it is more expensive but is more versatile in with what you catch. They say they can catch up to 25 lb fish on the heavy action rod. That system along with appropriate reels and line weights, and of course a variety of tackle, you could have a setup that will bring in everything from the smallest bluegill to the biggest largemouth Bass. That versatility makes Emmrod a winner.

My favorite rod is the Eagle Claw Pack Rod. It comes in it's own aluminum tube with a screw on cap and a sock to put all the rod parts in. The great part about the Eagle Claw rod is that with the bottom piece, you can put it on either way. One way is for a fly fishing reel, the other way I use a bait casting reel. Spinning reels don't work well at all as all the eyelets are too small for the loops the spinning reels make coming off the reell spool when casting.
I think I've go 5 of those Eagle clay rod kits now. I find them at yard sale once in a while. I see the aluminum tube first, pick it up and shake it a little which tells me whether or not the 4 rod pieces are in there. If I hear that lovely sound, I take he parts out and check out the eyelets. Eyelets can be replaced fairly easily. Check the rod itself and see if there are any cracks.
I've picked these up for $5-20. Walk away with a big smile on my face.
I keep one with each vehicle and also with my CamelBak Muleso it's always with me when I'm going for a hike.

Let me just say that I respect and appreciate your service in the military thank you. I have watched a couple of your videos where you are discussing the problems you are having with UA-cam. I had always watched what I was interested, wanting to learn, in and not what was entertaining. That is how I came to subscribe to your channel. I feel you are one of the best teachers on UA-cam, and I learn easily from you.
After listening to you talk about UA-cam supporting some channels more then others I was shocked at myself for being so gullible. I started paying attention to how many commercials were posted on the videos that I watch, and how many times I see certain videos come up on UA-cam posts. I have always wondered how some channels have 100,000 views when just posted and others have a few. Everything I heard you say was in fact correct. Therefore I have decided to support your channel more ie entertainment type videos. I am a retired nurse starting to prep and bushcraft. Even though I have camped my entire life. I would really like to learn more about fishing. Thanks again. 👍🏻

Great video as always. Wish fishing rods and reels increasingly shedding weight as the years go by, there is very little reason NOT to carry some type of fishing gear near water. I opted for a telescopic rod to suit my Alvey sidecast (not sure if These are very wellknown in America) but these 2 spin rod/reel combos that you demonstrate here are an extremely easy and effective way of having a little bit of fun, stress relief and catching yourself a meal or 2 or 3, and possibly saving your life :) I would be all the more poorer in life for not having learnt how to fish :) TY Corporals Corner!

Good video. I love the Super Duper for Trout. I was disappointed that you handled the trout and threw them back. I was taught that if you handle them (trout) with your hands, you remove some of their protective coating so you need to keep them. Just my two cents.

    • @lancestoll2704
      @lancestoll2704 5 років тому +3

You were probably taught that because it's a really good attitude to have about handling the fish. If your gentle and careful you can pick up a trout and release it without harm, but there's nothing wrong with your way of thinking about it

I like those rods but prefer my setup.
6.5 ft telescopic rod and some heavy duty elastics to determine length.
I wrap from the back of the reel up the back spine and around the eyelets from both sides of elastic.
    Works great.
Pole can be 3ft to 6.5 ft and still collapses.
25 bucks for decent setup minus lures.

    First of all;
I am absolutely thrilled that you used a Super-Duper as a lure.
I was born in 1964, and haven't heard that name in decades. Bravo!
    Secondly:
I like the (guessing at the spelling) M-Rod design, because you have a choice of rod strength. You're right about the cost versus options evaluation.
One of my all time favorites is a solid pan-sized rainbow.
However, if I can swap the rig out to land a decent Steelhead, I'm all in.
    Especially, for an ultralight rig.
    P.S.
    Nice camera work.
    Carry on ...

Heads up Cpl, bass pro shops has a travel rod available for less than $100 named Fish Eagle. It’s a 4 piece rod that ends up 7 ft light action. It comes with a very stiff travel tube and a roll up sleeve all pieces fit into and then slide into the tube for protection.
The fish eagle rod series has become my favorite fishing rods and personally I rank them at the lower end of the upper crust. St Croix type etc.
Paired with a Mitchell 300 or 308 they are pretty hard to beat and the tube straps nicely to my back pack.

Sweet. Looks like the m-rod would make a good setup for ice as well.

SEN SATIONAL! That was awesome. been a long time since I had a good spot for fresh trout. Roll them dudes in some flour and corn meal with a little salt and pepper. Fry 'em up in some peanut oil.... Backwoods feast for sure! Thanks for sharing bro! Oh yeah, the fishing rods were cool too!!

i used to fly fish and i would always take a telescoping spinning rod along with me in my pack for deep water fishing. the one i have now cost 30$ and i think i got it at walmart. they are a little longer than the ones you show here but they are still easy to pack or attach to the outside and keep the reel inside.

Thanks for just getting me totally excited. I fly out next week to Denver. Then spending the next week and half exploring the mountains, up into WY and Medicine Bow NF. Skipping the fishing and focusing on small game hunting.

Since River Cane ( looks just like Bamboo except with a crease on one side) grows abundantly where I live, I just have a basic fishing kit with a spool of line, some lead sinkers, bobs ( I use corks ), hooks, and steel leader line ( okay, I also have a little, air/water tight tube of blood dough balls and some lures), as Catfish, Bass, Perch, and tons more, etc...... are very abundant way up here in the rural Great Smokies, and you can go in the woods, find any creek/stream/river and look under rocks for Crawdads [Cray fish]), and every pond is about sure to be brimming with Trout, Bass, and lots more. I just make a cane pole, and pass the line on top of a finger and when I feel a tug I gently bring him in, give him slack, bring in more, you know how you do. Been doing this since I was a kid, along with hunting and tracking, plus taught gun handling, maintenance, how to hit and get what I aim for, etc........ starting very young, and I had a great teacher ( my Grandaddy, a WW2 combat Marine). I think I stand a good chance of wilderness survival, especially when I grew up learning wood/bush craft, and I'm an experienced street fighter ( grew up white in a 76% black city where you better know how to fight, spending my summers here in the rural mountains hunting and tracking with my friends here). Like your videos CPL Kelly, and thank you for your service, Semper Fi (you are U.S.M.C. , IIRC , right? ). Blessings to all our brave Soldiers, Marines, Sailors, Airmen, National Guardsmen, Coast Guardsmen, Fire Fighters, and those in law enforcement who are GOOD cops ( who seem to be in the minority nowadays, but they are there I promise, and they have helped me, even defending me from the bad cops and standing up for me in court. It's too bad that the majority [at least a great many] ruin peoples' perception of cops, leaving the good ones with a thankless, difficult, and dangerous job and people treating them like " leave me alone until I need you and then you better be right there. Poor good cops), and, when they're bad they're really bad, when they're good and cool, they're really good, so bless the good LEO, they should set the example for others to follow
