- To this day The King of Fighters 13 trials are still the most difficult to complete of any fighting game. It was over 10 years ago I recorded and finished these and now it's time to see if I can do it again. We get right to it with Leona and Ash which are regarded as the hardest characters to complete the trials with. Do I still got it?.

"We need our game to look like Ape Escape" had me dying
Yeah but ultimately the reason SNK changed the artstyle is because it was so much cheaper and easier to render 3d models. Those hand-drawn 2D sprites from XIII are absolutely gorgeous, but also incredibly labour intensive.
Kof 13’s sprites actually used 3d models as a basis which were then drawn over with pixel animation. This is because stand-alone pixel art is much more expensive and the models can be tweaked until they’re ready to be drawn as 2d graphics.

This game has seen a rise in popularity over the past couple months, but man the fact that there wasn't already a KOF XIII Unlimited Match or something blows my mind.
I know this needs a re-release with rollback at least digitally but hopefully it gets a physical release at least by limited run. And then I personally would like a unlimited match version of kof XI and NBC with roll back. Those were both excellent games with tag.
Only dream match games get the re-release treatment really. Doesn't help that the sprites took then a lot of time and investment just to make one character. Now imagine doing that level of polish for a series with over 100+ characters.
@@jaderabbit898 But keep in mind KOF XII was considered a "Dream Match" game and that was pretty much a prototype for what KOF XIII would become. Plus it doesn't have to be sprite based, when I think of a KOF XIII enhancement, I'd go for a graphical style similar to what we see in the KOF AS mobile game, or the hidden fg gem Xuan Doh Zhi Wang. On a side note, KOF XIII characters are actually not sprites. The characters are actually rotoscoped 3D models twitter.com/maximilian_/status/905199526079733760, it's insane.
@@bwareist Holy crap I did not know that. But yeah, it’s a shame because XII originally was supposed to be the end of the Ash Saga and XIII was probably meant to be the Dream match before it got hit with time constraints and made the switch.
A rerelease with some tweaks and rebalancing as well as rollback would make it worth the investment.
This brings me back to my 3ds days when i was watching your SSF4 Trial vids because i wasn't sure if i was doing them correctly.

23:45 Yes, still remember the famous game of Ash vs Iori, Ash did a long ass combo with like a million inputs and didn't kill, Iori counter with a short ass combo with maybe 10 inputs and killed Ash.
This GAME is one (if not) the best fighting game ever made, because of the art, diversity of characters and gameplay, and specially for the heart put on it.
It failed imho because of Netcode, and because of players (or community) like JW, Daigo and other known figures didn't support it, or at least didn't recognize it at its real value... and unfortunately it's too late for them now to try or have fun with its trials....
I need to point that Vesperarcade was who brought me to this masterpiece with his old trials video, Thanks MAN.

I always watch your old KOF 13 trial videos in 0.25x speed to see if there is a trick i am missing. I had no idea you had notes of them in the description until i watched this video lol and i watched them like 50 times each. Kudos to you for being able to talk while executing those ferocious trials.

A beautiful game that almost nobody played. I remember my nephew and his crew complaining about the motions being needlessly goofy and not worth learning because unless you were at someone's crib, you couldn't play the game anyway.

I found this game hard but I watched VA's tutorials and I got better at the game I also watched alot of tournaments and learned alot from pro-players plus this game was always hype at Evo especially at Evo 2012 and Evo 2013 the former was one of the best top 8s I've ever seen and it was the BEST top 8 of that year.
So this game was always regarded as the hardest fighting game for trials, and I always agreed with that assessment - it's definitely harder than GG and the Blazblue games, which are also very hard - but I think it now has competition for that title with the little known Koihime Enbu Ryo Rai Rai. Without doubt I think Koihime has more extremely hard trials than KOF XIII, and the average difficulty of trials 8-10 for the various characters is definitetly higher in Koihime, but I'm still not sure if the hardest trials in Koihime are harder than the hardest trials in KOF, namely Ash's trials.

Leona's and Ash's trials truly are the hardest ones this game, but I find Leona's way easier than Ash's. Probably because I'm a pad player since this era and because I was a Leona player.
Btw, KOF XIII is the best 2D fighting game ever made, IMO.

He included that in the descriptions of his KOF XIII Trial videos from way back when, with the game unsurprisingly ranking the highest out of the games he's covered at 10 out of 10, second place being BlazBlue at 9.
I think even now, with all the other fighters that have been released since then, this game would still boast having the most unforgiving trials out of any game.

I know I'm commenting really late but I completed all the trials as of now and I did that with an Xbox 360 pad's d-pad it was hard but man it feels satisfying once you land a big boy hd-combo in this game played this game alot online on Xbox Live and Steam and won alot of matches and I had alot of fun Kof XIII is my favourite in the series alongside XI and 2000.
My favourite team to play was Reg.Kyo/Ash/Benimaru and I completed all of their trials and all 3 of them were hard but Ash was in a league of his own and Kof 13 has the best trials in any fighting game.
I wish I was sorry for my trials here being so infamously hard, but it does take practice to hit hard while looking like you're not taking it seriously ♪

I did them on Xbox 360 with a pad 5 years later I completed them all again on Steam.
The trials in Kof XIII are the best trials ever.
Needs an unlimited match addition with roll back.
If execution was a little simpler this combo system could give KI a run for it's money.

For KOF XV hype, I decided to try to do some of the KOF XIII. I attempted Kyo, EX Kyo, Takuma, Mr.Karate, Iori, and King. I finished none of them, the farthest I got was Trial Nine with Ex Kyo but my finger couldn't get the hang of Rekka whiff HD Cancel DP and then having to repeat it three more times. Glad I attempted though, it showed that I actually improved on my execution over the years.
what made KOF 13 legendary is the sytem and its mechanics, i dont think KOF XV can surpass kof 13

@@KINSkully I'm kind of a noob in KoF 13 trials, but I think I could be of some assistance with Ex Kyo no.9.
KoF 13 has lenient input buffering (Thank God). So I'm guessing your problem is doing ↓→ after DP without activating a super... maybe. The trick is this: after a DP, input a punch (without any direction) and you'll get the initial Rekka. Then follow up with usual ↓→P (it's usually delayed slightly). All you just have to figure out is the timing of each button press.
What do you use? Controller or stick? I use keyboard.

Kof xiii was so beautiful. The trials were so damn hard they only had achievements for 200 trials complete, not all :D.

WTF?! The trick to that Kim combo was to hold back?! There's some fun combos in these trials, but details like that with no explanation whatsoever are infuriating.

I’m too used to doing these trials that hearing these button pressed I can saying, I dropped it.
I still throw this one in just to drink in the art design. I am painfully horrible at it but that means nothing when you are just enjoy the entire offering. Kaphwan's pants alone display my point. I have been playing him for years but this game showed the depth of character within art and system design. Just my opinion.

I cannot understand the notes about trail 10, if I hold back charge when going into HD mode, I will walk back, or If I cancel early, ash won't move forward( where's my auto dash from HD?) and hard fireball second hit won't land.
OK I got it now, need to HOLD back charge thorugh the HD dash.

The lv 9 Kim Trial was not so hard at the start if you were holding back all the time :D. I watched all the tops players dothing that i was like wtf and the i discovered the trick.

Game "failed" because sadly most people's perception of 2d is that its "old" and outdated. I remember people calling it a super nintendo game when it first came out. Netcode would of been cool for those of us that liked the game, but it wasn't the reason it failed at all, look at KOF 14 or even Samsho, they have trash netcode and yet sold way more than KOF 13. Hell, the most popular "fighting" game has some of the worst netcode ever (Smash) and sells bucket loads.

and kof fans be like, why can't our games get more widespread appeal...
1) Lack of brand recognition. Guilty Gear also suffers from this. Ask non gamers who Scorpion or Ryu are and at least some of them might answer you.
Ask a non fighting game fan who K' or Kim are and almost no one will answer you.
Ask a *fighting* *game* fan who Meiteikun or Ramon are and more than half of them won't know what the f are you talking about.
2) Skill barrier. About 00,1% of players are able to do this combos in trial mode after hours of hard work.
0,0000001% of players aka Desk, maybe, would be able to pull them off on demand.
Mappy Bc KOF XIII combos are the easiest in the series. You don’t have to completely destroy your hands to do them unlike in 2K2 UM.
