I remember during the most action-packed areas, the game would slow down because the NES couldn't handle it, but it actually gave it a really cool slow-mo type of effect. :P
@@ganeshvenkatachalam3203 That's because your emulator is basically reproducing the original NES' CPU power. I can assure you it was like that on the original NES!
I agree. This game is FUN! The TMNT2-The Arcade Game didn't really do it for me as a NES version. It was a little too dry... I don't know how to better describe it. This one, though... the graphics are clever, leaving very little to desire in NES standards. They really nailed it with this game. And the music... +MNanme1z4xs did you also know that the entire soundtrack was made using the in game sound effects with tweaks to the individual speeds so that the game could fit
ace15892001 Yes I totally expect that, for an NES game, there is absolutely no space for sound track as standalone file in any format. The only way to do it is to use program logic construct music with SE sample.
ace15892001 Of course NES was only meant as time reference, this apply to everything Sega or whatever that used solid state ROM or floppy. And is related to why Genesis sound was a pain to work with.
It's actually quite small compared to the size of the entire ROM. The thing was more related to how the NES could only access 32kB of data from the cartridge at any given moment, this is why "mappers" were invented to give the system the ability to choose which little slices of the ROM should be made available to it if a larger ROM chip was used. This is called bankswitching. It happens dozens of times every video frame because it might switch to one "bank" where the music code is located, then to the one that deals with drawing the level map on the screen, then the enemy AI code, etc.
I was always fascinated with how beautiful the music is for this game, it stood out to me as a child and has stuck with me to this day. Then again, it was Konami on NES - nothing but the finest of quality from them and this soundtrack is no exception. So many good and memorable songs, kick ass sounding drum samples and really cool effects done with the instruments. People can say TMNT4 is loads better in terms of gameplay, but you cant deny how fuckin' awesome the music is for this game.
Tuvimos la suerte de estar en medio de esto y lo mejor de los 80/90. Grandes momentos...
This soundtrack is what encouraged Jake "Virt" Kaufman to become a video game composer (according to his Wikipedia page). And even if you put that aside, it's a phenomenal soundtrack on the system, given how limited the audio capabilities are. It's super energic, well constructed and the use of the 5 sound chanels is clever and full of subilities. And of course the compositions are great. It's rock with some kind of fusion and funk parts, i'd say. It's a shame this game was not released in Europe :(
We had the Famicom Nes Chinese version of the platform in Bulgaria, never the original console. In different configs, some had this game hard coded in the chip, but a diskette was aslo available. So I played this since 1994 - I was 10yo these days. AMAZING game!

You cant help to laugh when Krang enters and that weird music starts playing. This one and the one from TMNT 2 might be the funniest boss themes ever recorded.
It's even funnier because Krang is usually the toughest boss in all of the TMNT games. So pairing his goofy (yet endearing) music with a boss who made you spend SO many quarters to beat him back in the day resulted in something incredibly memorable. XD
