    07' with 240000 miles, still running strong 4.7L. Upper control arms replaced every 2 yrs. Lifted it 2" , removed after 1 week.

      I leveled that Dakota with a 1.5in spacer and I also removed it after about a week.

    Considering a '08 with less than 90k at the moment, so your info is most appreciated. For me it would be a good compromise between carrying people if need be, or carrying stuff if that should arise.👍

    I just picked up an 06 Dakota Quad Cab 4.7 V8 4x4 6 Speed Manual. It'll be hard for me to ever let this thing go. Very hard combo to find haha

    I have a 06 Dakota that looks just like that one. We have been trouble shooting it for about $2000 so far. It started not wanting to shift into O/D. So we have had the transmission fluid and filter changed it all looked good, changed the shift selenoid, tune -up, new battery,transmission shift sensor, mass air flow sensor, throttle position sensor then finally the computer. Still idles high if you don’t let it idle down then it doesn’t shift
    Correctly.

    I have a 2001 Dakota slt quad cab. It is 2wd, 4.7l v-8, 45rfe automatic transmission. All the options. I love the truck. That being said, it does have problems. I got 358,000 miles on it with regular maintenance. It dropped a valve seat and I found it cheaper to rebuild the engine with the updated HO heads, pistons, and cams. The drivers seat bottom has had several replacements. No OEM parts available. It still has original transmission, but has started making a crunching noise in reverse engagement. Needs a heater core and had to be repainted after factory paint "fell off". I have rebuilt the control arms in the front end 4 times and it doesn't like to hold alignment. The bolts tend to loosen. I changed the front coil springs to the manual transmission option ones that had a higher load capacity. The brakes were much better than my gen 1, but still barely adequate. I installed a '03 Durango dual piston caliper front knuckle with huge rotors and an '04 Dakota rear disc brake axle with post-track 3.55 gear. The brakes are now amazing and super easy to do with minimal to no changes to the original brake system. I changed the TCM to a grand Cherokee 545 RFE to give me the extra gear. Some roads in AZ are 75mph. It does about 1800-2000rpms at that speed. have stainless street headers to magna flow cats and flow master dual exhaust. It still has the original fuel pump. I installed chevy Saturn 12 hole fuel injectors for a nice power gain and increased mileage (Kudos to Martinbuilt). The other issue is the window regulators have had to be replaced 4 times now. The TYC brand seem to be holding up well and have a lifetime warranty. It also seems to eat cam and crank sensors from Autozone (25 replacements). The OEM ones work great. I still carry a spare of each. Just recently gave it a Superchips tune and it really woke up. It gives Mustangs a good run.

      Haha too much work no thanks, plus the heating core will be even more work as it sits behind the radio and you have to pretty much the whole thing to change it.

    • @azfire8227
      @azfire8227 3 дні тому

      @@Rusonekox9 It is a lot of work. I do love the truck. As of my last post, I have replaced 2 cylinder heads for dropped valve seats. took the last one to a machine shop and had premium valves sets pressed in. so far so good. rebuilt a salvage yard 545rfe trans with all the sonnax and transgo goodies. Works amazing. No issues with compatibility. Tried Energy suspension bushings in the front end. Mistake! Going back to Moog OEM bushings. Urethane bushings fell apart in 2 years. Truck has just made 470,000mi. will be eligible for historic license plate next year :).

    I'm not as big of a fan of the 3rd gen's, but I love the first & second gen trucks. The aftermarket support is a lot stronger for the second gen trucks compared to the third gen's.
    There seems to be a lot of us Mustang guys who also own Dakota's. I have a 1996 Cobra & a 1994 Dakota SLT V8 4X4 with the 5 speed manual.

    Definitely agree with the lack of aftermarket parts. I have an ‘05 3.7 with a manual transmission and I’ve been wanting to modify certain things but haven’t found good sources for parts. Especially HD bumpers

      Move bumpers and I think Iron Bull bumpers makes some decent ones, although I have heard that the move bumpers have paint pealing issues.

      @@hyrt.the.rapper I’ve heard the same about the Move bumpers. Only thing I’ve been taking into consideration is that the added weight will definitely do a number on the already crappy fuel economy lol

      Yeah he said 20mpg I laughed my ass off I have the v6 too, and I will never get 20mpg, I actually think the V8 might gett better gas mileage. But I would rather have a meaner looking truck and pay the price for it.

    1st gen colorado\canyon/tacoma and all Ford rangers were compact not midsized. Unfair comparison. More comparable to a full size pickup

    • @misplacedgarage
      @misplacedgarage  15 днів тому +1

      While yes the Dakota is physically larger than the Ranger and Colorado at the time. It was still the direct competitor. The f150, and 1500 Chevy/Dodge were much larger when set side by side. The 3rd generation of the Dakota was just ballooned in size.

    Buying any vehicle decade old with under 100K is a given...I own a Raider and Ive had my fair issues with it, transmission problems were all electrical and sensors but because I fail to get it fix resulted in some minor mechanical failure so had it rebuild at 150K, 30K later still running strong, never had an issue with the engine leaking oil from worn out gaskets, never had an issues with overheating, hated that the coolant reservoir cracked and had to patch it up, the most annoying part was the camshaft sensor going out repeatedly either from bad wiring or the lack of quality after market products since Chrysler dont officially make OEM parts for it, fuel pump still working fingers crossed, fuel economy I say I get about 23miles on the highway but thats running off the v6 engine so yeah over all semi satisfied, sucks that the ujoints went out and has limited my mobility on it to just slow speeds on shorter distances.

    • @misplacedgarage
      @misplacedgarage  28 днів тому +1

      Yea any old vehicle is definitely a gamble. But from my experience having owned many old cars, the Dakota was Forsure the most problematic I’ve ever had. I’m sure it can’t be said for all of them, it just was my experience with mine.
