I always come back to this video once a year to marvel at the insane dedication and talent it must have taken to learn this. There are so few covers of this song on guitar on youtube, let alone a damn accordion!!! reminds me that I need to practice my accordion more often
That's so kind of you jauwn. Honestly, I've completely forgotten how to play it...it's what happens when you don't continue playing it every now and then😅 It took a hell of a long time to more or less get it right, and I still wish my fingers could go a bit quicker in that section of rapid succession of notes Fripp plays, but oh well hehe
Dude the end of this song always hits so hard still made me tear up I swear. ...but you bastard. You didnt let the air out at the end lol...that final progression down the scale. You killed me.
So proud to have you in my little KC group, Ivan !! You are an original, dear. And I mean that in the BEST way, absolutely ‼️😺👏🏼👏🏼 You are quite avant garde !! And musical. Plus, obviously verrrrrry patient.😹
Ah Becky, your comment sure made me smile : ) And I´m delighted to belong to your nice little group, with Sal, Kelly, and company : ) Yeah, you're right, this particular piece really tested my patience. Actually, I had tried many times in the past to play it, and ended up giving up all of those times. I guess that what finally made me go for it for good was that "Robert Fripp is Watching You" picture, just as a means of preassure hehe. Still, that part of the song in which the notes need to be played very fast one after the other, drives my absolutely crazy...there's just no way I can play it as fast as in the original song, my fingers aren't that fast : ( Anyway, I think my next one will be one of your favourites......Starless : ) : ) : )
Wow. Guess you are tired of the "a woman that likes King Crimson ?" comments, I'd bet. Do you own any of the large KC box sets ? My family gave me the Sailors' Tales box set last Christmas. I knew that Ian Wallce & Mel Collins were tremendous players, but that box set puts a whole new light on those two, Boz Burrell deserves a lot of credit as well !! It is not an inexpensive set, and as it was a limited release to begin with, it is getting more expensive as time passes. The live recordings are muddy sounding at times, but the musicianship never lets up for a second !! A given, being that we're talking about King Crimson, right ? Also, of possible interest, there is a new movie that appears today: Zappa. It is very limited release for theaters & available on streaming services & here on UA-cam as well. Hope this helps, not knowing if you like his material or not.... Keep on Fripping, dear lady !! 😇

Btw, I have a small King Crimson group on Facebook! Come join us if you are on FB. It’s called “King Crimson: The Early Years.” 😉 My name is Rebecca Pool Gilbert on FB!

@@beckylink Sadly, UA-cam is as far as I delve into social media. Or, will allow myself to.... And that's primarily because of music to begin with. Wow, and she loves The Stooges ?.... And a total anomaly because the greats never usually come to Delaware. Stranger ? You strangely interest me. I sense forthrightness in you. A quality I now see as very intriguing. I hope so, because I have a true dandy for ya !! I'll go find it and pop back with a link edited in for ya..... And amazing endurance, most sax players could not approach the sheer amount of physicality in this playing, I have been told..... Well, maybe Mel Collins could !! I played this recording for a sax playing veteran of the instrument one time. He listened intently and was really floored by it- it made him laugh outright more than once. So when Brecker winds his lead/solo down, I asked, "whataya think" ? He says to me, "the guy is frozen"... Huh ? Wtf, right ? He then explained to me that it was a drug term for the numbing effects of cocaine. Ooohhhh..... And ? I asked..... He said, "man, the sheer number of notes he plays there ? And he said it with a serious pointed tone towards the end, there. Not being a sax player myself ? I took the man's word for it.... Yeah, Michael Brecker & Mel Collins are my favorites. Not my favorite instrument either. But when those two play it ? And Cannonball Adderly, too. I love his stuff. I am awed at your dedication !! You certainly spent many the hour working on that. Wow, that was a testament to your inner drive with your instrument of choice !! I have to wonder if Mr. Fripp himself has viewed this. I'm sure the father of this baby would be happy to see it applied to an unlikely candidate such as the accordion. I truly have fond memories as a child of the squeezebox. I had an uncle that went on a vacation with us in the Pocono Mountains in Pennsylvania around 1980. All the older people had been drinking & smoking the night before & playing cards, whatever. Uncle Frank, shakes me around 6am, while everybody is still sleeping off collective hangovers, right ? (guess you know where this is going....) He slips the accordion out of it's case & gleefully blares away on that squeezebox while laughing his ass off !! A collective groan & yelling starts as a result from those still visiting hangoverville !! I'll give the man this: it was devious, but harmless and as a 12 year old ? Hilarious !! To have known the man, it is even more funny, trust me. Dude was one of a kind.....
Read the comments far enough to find that Mr. Fripp has probably seen this. I hope he enjoyed it as much as I did. One of the great compositions of the age, amazingly rendered here.
That was insane!! Like running a marathon on your fingertips! And you manage to look cool as a cucumber throughout. I hope you enjoyed playing it as much I enjoyed listening.
Hey, thanks so much for such a kind comment! To be honest, there were parts where it was a little hard to enjoy playing because it was so easy not to press the right button, so I was kind of in tension. Especially the part of the rapid succession of notes with the guitar. I can't avoid wishing I'd been able to play that part as fast as Fripp, but my fingers just won't go any faster 😂😂😂 So in general I enjoy it more when it's slow, like "Islands" or "Book of Saturday", for instance. Anyway, thanks a million for the kind comment!!!
Totally agree Mike, Fracture is one of my favourite pieces ever...and my particularly favourite part of this tune is the xylophone section...it's so difficult to describe what those notes transmit...
The musicality of a Fripp composition is sometimes revealed by someone doing a cover version, I hear things I never consciously heard before. Great version!

I was watching not sure what was off, and then I looked iT up and sure enough that's a Russian accordion also known as a Bayan. That's not any sort of detraction, but I was wondering about the keys.
honestly might work better as a solo accordion piece. almost sounds like (and feels like it was meant to be) a piece for a huge pipe organ, but I feel like the accordion suites it even better than that as a midway between the guitar and the organ somewhat.
Great cover! Btw, what are those large squareish buttons by the left-hand set of buttons (player's left)? They look like range selectors or chord selectors or something.
Thanks man! It's exactly what you said. Those buttons basically change the range, they can make the same note sound higher or lower. Most of those buttons I never use, though.
